I was recently in Santa Fe running errands and really stopped by Allsup because I just needed an hour to kill. I figured I would grab some snacks to eat...and decided to stop by a gas station that was nearby..and..surprisingly discovered Allsup's burritos for the first time!! I had a green chile and cheese burrito with a cold bottle fo soda..and...wow...I was so hooked that I was debating going in there to get a second burrto! It was so good to the point I had to look up Allsup's burrito online and that was when I discovered the whole cult following Allsup's burrito. Pro tip: the one that people usually talk about are beef and beans ones...but..I swear..I loved the green chile and cheese so much that I don't even think about trying other flavors! They do have other flavors like beef & beans, chicken and green chile and chicken and beans(?) as well. The only one star was..if you were to buy a burrito on its own, you pay close to $4 for one, which, in my mind, is expensive (esp for a gas station food!). I happened to beg the gas station manager to get the $5 soda/burrito combo, which usually only applied to pepsi & beef and beans burrito. Go try this! I was strolling around and low and behold... what do you think the NM Donut Kween found!!! You guessed it! Doughnutty socks!!!! Sad thing is they were children sizes but I thought what the heck I'm going to buy them anyway!! I asked the cashier if she had anything else related to Donuts in her shop. She said I don't think so. While i was a little bummed it didnt matter because I was extremely happy with a pair of socks I found! While I was browsing she actually told me she found another pair! This little store is tucked between million dollar homes in what the locals call the "Historical…read moreInner East Side" of Santa Fe. We go there every October to buy frozen tamales to bring home. They sell them in sealed packs of a dozen and you can choose either green (chicken) or red (pork). If you are flying home with a cooler of roasted Hatch or Socorro chile the airlines don't permit you to have ice in the cooler. So I use a few packages of frozen tamales from Johnnie's as my "ice" to keep the chile cold. It has worked perfectly for 20+ years in a row.
