Service was slow. Came in for a family Brunch. Granted our party was 24. That being said one whole table didn't get there food for over an hour, well after everyone else had eaten. Once the final table got food one person was still not served. I had the chicken biscuit and gravy. Everything on my plate was cold. The chicken was fried however it was very obvious by the burnt flavor that the oil in their fryer was well past due to be changed. Overall the experience was dismal to say the least. The beer selection is as amazing as the food, and that is not common. The bartenders are top notch and know their stuff as well as the talent in the kitchen. Everything is fresh, house made or sourced by local producers, like 16 Bricks. I really like going to hear the live music. read more

Went with a group last Friday night for my wife's birthday. They were very accommodating for our large group of 14. First visit here and will not be the last. Everyone loved everything they ordered which is impressive for a group that large. Service was very fast and friendly for a busy Friday night. Recommend to anyone who wants a good meal. Went in last week for a late lunch. Pretty cool atmosphere being in an older building.. The patio was really nice and fairly spacious considering the size of the restaurant as a whole. The bar tender was really cool and easy to talk to, was also full of great suggestions. Had the Cuban which is apparently a more selective item based on ingredients and when they have them, that being said it was full of flavor and definitely one of the best Cubans I've had. Place is nice, food was just ok, had pimento cheese appetizers, crostini's we so hard you could have broken a tooth. The dip itself was so cold you could not spread in the crostini, the flavor was good, just tough to eat. Had the BBQ shrimp and grits, did not taste like it was made to order, grits were tasty and creamy, but were very hot. The shrimp was bland, bad presentation. Drinks were really good but super pricey, live music was nice. Waiter was good but a bit over to top. Desert was buttermilk pie, not what we were expecting, when it came it wAs a flat cobbler. Needed some lunch at the halfway point on our trek back to Ann Arbor. What a nice find! First, nearing the end of the lunch hour, on the weekday, we had the place to ourselves so our 2 pups could join us on the patio. The October special of the PumKing brew was outstanding. Used to be a restaurant we enjoyed. We will NEVER return. Horrible signs of disorganization. Our food came after an hour AND 45 minutes. Out of the four entrees: 1. One person had a cold burger and with limp, grease-filled fries. 2. BLT had rubbery, limp, greasy bacon. 3. The mac and cheese was described as wonderful, but the side salad was described as awful. 4. The fourth person asked about dairy free options and was told she could get her meal dairy free. It was a small appetizer portion that cost $26. Worse yet, it was NOT dairy free and person was SICK with dairy allergy reaction for DAYS after her meal. They could kill someone who has food allergies. Bad food. Bad service. An extreme disappointment! This used to be a special place and is now a horrible mess. read more

We were so excited to try the new location but honestly were disappointed. Ordered two salads, a burger, and a BLT that took over an hour. When the salads came out, they consisted of 4 pieces of romaine lettuce and 5 shrimp (that was an additional $6.50). My husband and I purchased a voucher through Cincinnati Special Reserve and decided to give this place a try. I was pretty impressed with this restaurant. It was nice outside and not too hot, so we decided to eat on the patio. It was quiet and just warm enough outside to really enjoy the beer (our voucher included samplings with each course). Our waitress was friendly and attentive and very knowledgeable. Hubby enjoys beer, but I'm not a huge beer drinker, but our waitress managed to choose samplings based on my taste and I think I may have found a few new favorites. I had the shrimp po' boy, which was just meh, but my husband's Cuban sandwich was delicious. Oh, and the house ketchup is the best. We will definitely return! read more

First time at BrewRiver and we went home impressed and satisfied. My husband and I shared a bowl of gumbo...WOW!!! Super delicious! I had the BLT sandwich,which was fabulous... from the bread, to the homemade aioli sauce, to the thick pieces of bacon that they brine and smoke in house. All the ingredients made this sandwich a masterpiece. My hubby had the Natchez burger which was very delicious as well. The side we chose was the french fries which came with homemade ketchup, which was all delicious too. We are definitely going back and look forward to trying something new next time. read more

The fried green tomatoes were pretty good. Crispy and cut thickly enough to let the tart, tangy taste of the tomatoes come through. I liked the bacon jam with them. My wife thought it was OK. Main course. My wife had the mussels. The crostinis were alright. Ironically under toasted so not very crunchy based on what happened to my dinner. Sauce was different than the usual tomato and white wine broth and was tasty and the mussels were perfectly done. On to my pro' boy. Great bread. Nice flavor. The remoulade sauce was sharp and tangy with a nice after burn to it and the green tomato chow chow was great. Sadly the heart of the sandwich was beyond disappointing. The breaded shrimp were cooked to death. Not just over cooked so they weren't tender but to the point where they were actually difficult to bite through. There may have been 3 or 4 of them at best. Ate half the sandwich consuming 1 shrimp and hoped the next would be better. It wasn't and I stopped at that point. Told our server about the condition of the shrimp and showed him one of them. Dark brown and shrunken. He expressed concern. Came back later and asked if we wanted dessert. We demurred based on the dinner. When we received the bill the po' boy was discounted at 50%. I know I ate half but honestly it wasn't an enjoyable experience (which is why I stopped) but that seemed like a rather paltry and petty way to have dealt with this issue. Didn't go there looking for a free meal but for an enjoyable dining experience. The fries that came with the sandwich by the way were very crispy and flavorful and served with a scratch made ketchup that was very good. My wife would like to go back and try the Pasta Monica some time but I'm skeptical. We live up north but do come down occasionally for business flights out of Lunken. Update: I was expecting a great restaurant considering a 4/5 stars. This missed the mark by quite a bit. We went around 12:00 pm. They only had a brunch menu, most restaurants have both their brunch and their lunch menus out. This place only had their very limited brunch menu out. It was not advertised that this is the only menu available. It is also over priced for what it was. I got a blte and it was pretty good but the rest of my party got burgers, they described them as dry and unseasoned. Sides also don't come with the meal, they are extra. Their ketchup also tasted like tomato sauce, not ketchup. Update: upon further comment from the owner, it is clear that they really care about the sourcing and quality of their food and I can appreciate that. I think I just went on an off day or was having an off day or something. I think I would probably give a second chance for their dinner menu but I'm not sure when. read more

I was there with a group on opening night, and I was so happy to find this great place for food and drinks! Everyone at the table tried a few different items and I was not let down by anything! The Olives and Truffle fries were both great as appetizers and I really enjoyed the beef poutin and the truffle mac and cheese as entree choices. Everything at a very reasonable price point too! As you can tell, I don't write many reviews, but I had to drop a note on this one. Thus is without a doubt my favorite new restaurant in town. We had the truffle fries, pâté, gumbo, and chicken. All of it was prepared perfectly. I'm already craving more truffle fries. The gumbo is fantastic. I almost never order chicken out, but I will get this one again. And I haven't even mentioned the beer yet. The house brews are good, but the have a great selection of craft brews on tap. You of course can get a beer flight and sample anything on tap. We were excited to try their new location, which is great & could easily be a house/restaurant in New Orleans. But service was sub-par. There was major confusion when we arrived for brunch because there seemed to be 2 hostesses & we even had a reservation. Service just took a long time (& we continually saw numerous other servers just standing around) - we watched our drinks sit on the bar not being delivered, took a long time to order, very little check in to see if we needed more drinks, and took a while for our food. When our food did arrive, my order was incorrect & they took it back & made the correct order. When my correct order arrived, I'm pretty sure they just took the incorrect sandwich off & replaced it with the correct one, but kept the original fries - which were ice cold. Great concept for New Orleans cuisine - the food was good & the menu looks great, but there are way too many places to go in Cincinnati now that we would want to return. read more

Fraudulent Credit Charges If you want to have a bad banking experiences go to Brewriver. Expect fraudulent inflated charges on your credit card and to be told "it's an honest mistake". When it happened to me it took two weeks for them to finely return the over charge. No customer service........... it took numerous calls and never and did I receive an apology. They wouldn't even return the $35.00 bank charge for the overdraft that was cause by the inflated charge. Just make sure you check your credit card after going there you may be charged $104.00 for a $43.00 meal. read more

I feel like to have foodie dishes with a "wow" factor you have to take a leap out of the ordinary. Brew River takes that leap but doesn't stick the landing. Everything was almost there but not quite. Almost the entire menu sounds amazing. We had a hard time narrowing it down. We started with the daily gumbo special made with smoked chicken and chorasco sausage. It was delicious. A little spice balanced with savory flavors. We had to try the Poutine since everyone was raving about it. Poutine may not be my thing, but I was not a fan. The plate came out and it was HUGE. It probably could have served 6 or 8 and as there were just two of us, it was overwhelming. An appetizer shouldn't be shouldn't be more food than your meal. They should offer half or even quarter portions. The fries and cheese curds were good, but I feel like the Thai marinade that they used on the meat clashed with the dish. The shrimp poboy sounded so good but the first bite was a let down. It had a strong mustard sauce instead of a remoulade which overwhelmed all of the other flavors and did not pair well with the shrimp. The Nachez burger was good. The fried red onions really made it. The ingredients were all very fresh and everything was well prepared but the flavor just wasn't there for me. However, their beer menu is phenomenal. They have unique selections that you won't find most places. Get the flight so you only have to narrow it down to 6. We tried a Peanut Butter Lager that was so fun and delicious. I had a great time at this restaurant. They have a large beer selection, along with a full bar. I enjoyed a ginger beer with my gumbo and fish and chips. The fish and chips were good but the gumbo was amazing! I want to buy it by the pint to take home with me for lunches! So, so good! Our waiter was new I think. He had a few slip-ups but nothing terribly distracting. One thing to note is that you have to park on the street, they don't have an actual parking lot.
