Tried Allyn's for the first time on a Friday night and there was a good crowd but we got seated right away! We ordered some sides to share before our meals and the Cajun fries were soo good. Our server had the answer to any question we asked (a lot) and was really helpful! The dirty rice was amazing - it was like a toned down jambalaya- definitely a must get side dish! The flavor in the mardi gras noodles was amaaazing!!! I was also shocked at how the regular jambalaya and vegan jambalaya tasted so similar - the only difference was the regular one having a bit more spice. This was also my first time trying catfish and this was cooked perfectly - like melt in your mouth with great flavor and it was breaded /fried perfectly. Can't wait to come back!

finally got around to popping into Allyn's on a monday afternoon & it was SO good. service was great and the food was delicious & filling! my boyfriend was very happy to see bell's two hearted on tap (i guess cincy doesnt have a lot of that around here hahah). happy hour options were good & $1 wing monday special was worth it!

We enjoyed our dinner at Allyn's where I choose to eat the soup sampler with delicious chili and jambalaya. The corn bread was amazing and the service was fast. The restaurant doesn't have a lot of parking but across from the restaurant there's a big parking lot. The restaurant is pretty big and has a bar to sit at. I really appreciated the gluten free, vegetarian and vegan choices they had on the menu.

First time trying this place, but it won't be the last. I had a really nice burger that was cooked exceptionally well. The Cajun fries were hot, fresh and spicy too. Our server was knowledgeable and friendly. This place has a comfortable vibe as well. Can't wait to come back and try more Cajun cuisine.

Excellent food and service! It is a casual place that has a lot of history and has been around more than 30 years. I think it started out as a blues club. There's a bunch of nostalgic memorabilia on the walls. They have a pretty large menu that also includes gator. There's a cute little patio out back. They sell beer and wine. You can buy beer by the 6 pack and wine by the case. The food was good hot and tasty.

This place has so many vegetarian / vegan options! It has a fun dive bar feel and showcases New Orleans style drinks and food. They even have hurricanes on the cocktail menu! We ordered the mozzarella sticks which were great with the tomato sauce. Also ordered the the jackfruit bbq sandwich. It could have been seasoned and sauced a little more but overall good portion and something different. It comes with a small side of coleslaw and your choice of another side, we got the Cajun fries which were delicious!! These were perfectly seasoned and we got bbq and chicago sauce for dipping. Also ordered the vegan hot dog but got it with regular cheese. The chili is so hearty and the vegan dog is flavorful. The side we chose was broccoli which was simple steamed broccoli but tasted great! You can ask for a hot sauce caddy that has 4-5 hot sauces , some made in house! It can be difficult to find street parking so give yourself enough time. Also a minor annoyance...the booths are positioned right up against each other so anytime the person behind me moved around in his booth it would kind of bump me forward so the whole meal was this back and forth booth back war which wasn't very pleasant :/

Wish I tried this sooner! Great vegan options and so tasty! I tried their pumfu for the first time and I'm hooked! Hubs got the vegan jambalaya (maybe add a bit more sausage?) and hush puppies. Flavors were kickin'! Only thing I wish they would offer is gluten free/vegan buns or bread (O'Dough's? Little Northern Bakehouse? Or Schar?). I'd love to try the burgers but having 'lettuce wrap' options just isn't the same. Not a complaint by no means, as food is great, just a suggestion for those of us that need gf options:)

We ate here for the 1st time and it was delish! The Mardi Gras pasta with gator was super good and the bread pudding... OMG! definitely will be back. The raspberry margarita was also very tasty!

We were here on a Tuesday and the restaurant was not hopping. Here's hoping it hops other days of the week. The place is cute and our booth was very cozy. Our waiter, Scott, was helpful and pleasant. I ordered a Iberville Hand Grenade to start. It was slightly sweet and strong. It was a nice start for our dining experience. We started with Fried Green Tomatoes. Scott explained there was currently a shortage of asparagus, so no asparagus on this appetizer, but I didn't miss them. We both thought flavor of this dish was completely satisfying. I ordered Pasta Laveau with Shrimp, which was delicious. Mark had the Gumbo, which he thoroughly enjoyed. I'm glad this place is close enough to stop in before a show. I think I'd bring friends back to give it a try. Overall, a good experience and a good meal.

Not to mention the fact that you HAVE TO HAVE A RESERVATION, was mind boggling for the place. Like the server was very nice and all, that is a plus. Though sadly the food, we had the gumbo and etu fay, it was honestly pretty sad. Like it's up there with the top 5 most sad restaurants I've ever eaten at. The food was pretty bland, and lacked any form of spice. Not to mention it was hard to tell what was actually in it, like a lot of the ingredients tasted over cooked. So yeah it's going to be a no for me.

The wicker chairs in the section to the left of the bar as you face the bar were unusually deep and low. Over time I think we all adjusted, but sitting in them definitely felt unusual. There are other chairs throughout the restaurant. I recommend finding a table with different chairs. Our waiter was knowledgeable and very efficient. We hadn't checked on the website, but found out Thursday is oyster day, with $1 oysters and fried oysters and $1.50 for Oyster Bienville. The fried oysters were delicious. The raw oysters were good, though I had one that was gritty. We are going again in two weeks and will try the Oyster Bienville along with other assorted oysters. Two of us had the special Pan Seared Sea Bass. It came highly recommended and did not disappoint. The crisp on the top was delicious and the fish itself was delicate and moist. It did indeed melt in my mouth. The potatoes were very good, though I didn't finish all of them. The greens were good. Mark had a ribeye and is still raving about it today. He ordered the preparation version made with just salt and pepper. He also had a cup of gumbo. He said it had an amazing depth of flavor. We wrapped up with dessert. Three folks had Key Lime Pie. I opted for Karma's Opera Crème Cake. Oh my goodness, it was huge, sweet and delicious. I tried a bit of key lime and it just didn't compare. That said, those who had the Key Lime Pie loved it. Not only would we return, but we have the date already scheduled. I'm looking forward to trying something different.

I sat in the bar so I could watch the band Mystic Mile perform, and they were great. I wish I could say as much for my Po' Boy. As shown in the photo, it was huge! As soon as I saw it, I knew I was going to need to eat some of it with a fork before I could get it down to being a manageable sandwich, especially since it had 13 nice-sized pieces of breaded shrimp. There was so much on the French bread roll that I could not even see the roll. The shrimp were perfectly cooked and tasty, and the homemade pickle slices added a nice touch. However, once I got to the point of trying to eat it as a sandwich, I was very disappointed to find that the roll had a hard crust and tough interior. It definitely was not crisp on the outside with a flaky, paper-thin crust and airy on the inside, which is how Po' Boy rolls were in NOLA. I took two bites of the roll and decided I would finish the shrimp with a fork. I ordered the Bananas Foster bread pudding for dessert. It had a great flavor, but the banana pieces were hard, like biting into an undercooked carrot. Overall the bar service was good, but the food quality was mixed since it tasted great but had some big flaws. BTW, if you're a big fan of root beer, try their draft root beer. It was extremely tasty. I wanted so much for this to be a great experience, but I have yet to decide if I'll return to give them another try.
