We couldn't afford his appetizer option, so I mentioned that we would make our own apps. Also that we didn't want to use his cheap plastic plates and paper napkins since we wanted the event to feel more formal. We had already discussed that I would be renting china, linens, etc and he had no problem with it. Then out of the blue, he wrote back saying that he "tried but could no longer work with me" on this. He couldn't accept outside food and couldn't do our function for the same price now that it was "formal." Now, I hadn't actually spoken to him in weeks, so saying that he tried to work with me was bogus. We certainly could have worked out the appetizer situation (I can understand where he's coming from), but we hadn't changed anything on the menu and somehow he now couldn't work within our budget because we were "changing" it to formal (based on our renting china and linens). He sent my deposit back without even calling me to discuss, with less than two months until the wedding, leaving us scrambling to find someone who was available on short notice. Personally, I think he found a better paying job and decided to take it, despite having accepted and cashed my deposit check more than two months prior. Highly unprofessional and certainly unethical. What also bothered me was that I would email him a list of questions and he would always call to answer them, so I would then have to pull up my email, copy it to a word doc, then jot down notes regarding all of his answers. He didn't like email. However when it came time to drop us, he chickened out and sent an email. Not even the courtesy of a call to try to work it out, or even just to explain himself. Stay away...

We asked if she could squeeze us in under the circumstances of nobody answering their phone and no call back to tell us that there were no available reservations. The standard protocol is "I'm sorry sir let me see what we can do for you". Instead she said we could eat at the bar otherwise nothing she could do. When we asked about why weren't we called back to notify us as we traveled 20 minutes to get there. She just shrugged us off without any apology. Just very rude with lack of any compassion or attempt to remedy their error which resulted in a big inconvenience for us. A very disappointing experience!

We arrived to a note with some basic info and informing us that they upgraded our room for free to the Connecticut room which was a very nice surprise as the upgraded room had a Jacuzzi tub. There were instructions to call the owner to let them know what time we wanted to eat breakfast, we accidentally asked for 10 minutes before they start serving and they did accommodate us. The Inn is very cute and cozy, we made use of some of the available brain teaser puzzles that evening. We were able to adjust the temperature of the room easily. The bed was very comfortable and had plenty of warm blankets. The hot water did take a little while to heat up, we started to worry that the water heater was broken but it if did heat up eventually. In the morning we went out to the breakfast area and the inn keeper told us to pick a table to sit, not exactly warm and welcoming but to the point. The breakfast was decent, the fresh fruit was very nice. The inn keepers didn't seem to be the most outgoing/friendly types but nice enough when we got to talking. There is a little driveway to the Inn which was convenient for dropping off all our stuff before parking in the little lot the next driveway up. Overall we had a great stay, and would recommend the Wilderness Inn for local stays, especially with Waterville Valley and Cannon Mountain so close by.

To put it simply: Business owners that blatantly disregard human life and hide behind their own "policies" as an excuse to pocket hard-earned money from their clientele, do not deserve anyone's patronage. If you are interested in the details of what happened, please feel free to read below: I was greatly looking forward to my stay for the upcoming weekend when I made my booking on Sunday, 7/9; however, devastating storms and unprecedented flash floods swept through most of New England the following day. Upon seeing the damage in my area and on the news, I immediately called the owners at the Wilderness Inn and expressed my concerns about traveling from New York + their location being so close to the Pemigewasset River. They assured me they had no damage, but I reiterated my growing unease given more bad weather was predicted for the weekend I was staying (with the worst of it Friday and Sunday, the days that I would be traveling 5-6 hours or more by car). They insisted everything would be fine, even though there is no way to guarantee safety in such dangerous and unpredictable circumstances like flash flooding. As I was getting ready to start my drive to NH on the morning of Friday, 7/14, my navigation app alerted me of flash flooding along multiple routes. I called the owners and kindly asked if they would be willing to work with me and offer a refund (I even offered to pay a cancellation fee), or allow me the opportunity to reschedule my stay for another weekend since it was a life-threatening weather event and even local authorities were advising against all non-essential travel. Unfortunately, I was met with a cold and callous response. Instead of showing any empathy toward my predicament, they dismissed my concerns and summarily denied my request for a refund or rebooking. They failed to grasp the severity of the weather conditions and continued to insist that it was safe to travel (it was not). After our call, I formally notified them via email that I would not be traveling due to the storms and gave them one last opportunity to reconsider their cancellation policy. Sadly, they went ahead and charged my credit card for the full amount, but not before belaboring that there was "no emergency" in NH (there was). In a time when compassion and understanding should prevail, the owners of the Wilderness Inn showed clear negligence, an alarming lack of responsibility and professionalism, and a shameful disregard for the safety and well-being of their guests. It is frustrating to witness such an abysmal level of customer service. I sincerely hope the owners reconsider their business practices and realize that customer satisfaction and safety should always be the utmost priority, especially in extreme weather events.

Since i had some credit to be used for hotel stay we decided to get a scenic sweets with king bed which is best and most expensive room available at the Inn. When we got there no one was there and an envelope left with my name and instruction for parkings and room with a map. It was bit difficult to navigate since it was dark but we manage to find the parking and grabbed our stuff and went up to the room with our code. Room was spacious and cozy. Building seemed to be old but seemed to be renovated and bathroom was nice and clean. Once we got settled we start to notice bugs flying, stuck on furniture, by the window and on the ceiling. Since it's in the woods i understand if it's 1 or 2 but it was more like 10+. I had to get rid of them myself because no one was around and was bothering my partner since she was afraid of bugs. Managed to somehow sleep through the night despite noise of annoying heater and bugs flying against the window and curtains. Next day, We woke up early to leave for hiking for the day. I left a message on the number they had for service to informed the management of the situation and to have them resolve it during the day as we would be out for the day. We spent most of the day out and we returned hoping that situation has resolved. Unfortunately within few minutes of arriving i once again noticed bugs flying and had to deal with them myself because place becomes empty at 8:00pm and does not have front desk or personal after 8:00pm which is odd for a hotel. We were too tired to deal with the issue so we just left for bed. Next day when we checked out I was going to talk to the staff but they are always in and out and office was open but no one was there so I decided to send message again to the text asking for them to fix the problem for next customer and request some kind of compensation for dealing with this issue and not having it resolved during our stay. Unfortunately they declined refund or any form of compensation. With the experience we had and the poor customer service I cannot recommend this place to anyone. Other reviews seemed to indicate decline in service after change in management which may be the reason. I did want to like the place and i did give a fair chance but i will not be returning here.

Kevin and Jen no longer own the Inn. The owner is never present and they don't serve breakfast anymore. It's grab and go, choice of 2 pastries an apple and coffee/tea. The staff was very nice and no issues there. At night it turns out there is no staff there. They rotate a staff member between 3 properties every few hours until 11:00. Also, we were on a 40th anniversary 3 week road trip and this is the only place we stayed that didn't even acknowledge it was our anniversary.The restaurant is still very good and the rooms are nice and we always stay in the suite with a beautiful view. We had no warning that this room was on the 3rd floor so did not enjoy carrying suitcases up three flights of stairs. Room from rugs to pillows to walls were dated. What was most disconcerting was that the top floor was not air conditioned. It did not appear that our small in room air conditioner had not been turned on in some time since the room registered 88 degrees when we entered. We complained and were told that it just needed a short amount of time for the air conditioner to work. We checked out after 2 days since this was not the case. We could not use the room during the day, and sleep was uncomfortable due to the nighttime heat. The breakfast was excellent and the location was convenient, but the entire facility needs updating. As frequent travelers, we have rarely had such a negative experience.
