    Ruff Life - Cooper's pack!

Your dog gets a little cubby for their leashes and spends the day with a supervised "pack" that seems mostly the same each week. They post photos every day to their Instagram and Facebook which is the highlight of my day. My only complaint is that the parking lot is a little small and can be hard to maneuver at peak hours. Worth it! Cooper absolutely loves going here! I haven't used their boarding but I plan to if we ever need it since it is cageless. Definitely recommended!

We lived in RI last year, and he LOVED, LOVED, LOVED going to Ruff Life 2x a week for daycare. I would get him in the car at 7am and say "we're going to camp" and he would stare out the window and pant the entire way there. Once there, he would drag me up the ramp and into the house. When I picked him up at the end of the day, all the dogs would bark out a goodbye, and while I knew he was glad to see me (and exhausted from all the fun), I also knew he would miss his pals until the next day. Sadly, I quit my job so camp needed to end, but if we ever wind up back in the area, he is going right back to Ruff Life. What I loved about it was that everyone there was really nice, greeted him by name each day with a hug, and he never smelled "doggie" at the end of the day, which many places smell like.

After having my dog a few months, I began to notice undesirable behaviors that I wanted to work on with a professional trainer. I listed these behaviors and weighed the options of a group class vs. in home training. Jim focuses on positive reinforcement training which is very appealing to me. Jim has a very reasonable starter package of 3 lessons. He came out for an evaluation of Alibi first. Since starting her lessons, my dog has developed significantly and my ability to control her has increased as well. After working with Jim, you can tell he has a genuine passion for what he does and that he basically understands and loves dogs. My Rottie loves him too. I would highly recommend Jim O'Neil at Great Dog! I have not been disappointed with my choice. He responds to his emails promptly.

In a 1 hour session, our 4 legged friend went from lunging and barking at Jim in front of the house to politely asking for and taking treats, off-leash, inside the house. Jim shared with my with husband and I a wealth of information that we can use to continue our training in his absence. While we will likely book another appointment to extend the training, Jim was not at all pushy about additional sessions. All around, a fantastic experience. Highly recommended!

I signed up for a group class and upon arrival of the first class I was told I was the only participant registered. No class was prepared and it turned out to be a waste of time. They offered to bump me over to a different class that had a few people signed up. It was described as a class for dogs with their basic commands down but needing practice on keeping focused. To say the class was dysfunctional is an understatement. There were two extremely reactive dogs that barked intensely through the entire class, and a third dog being kept in a crate a few feet behind me, who also barked the entire class. The dog next to us was consistently lunging and barking at my 1 year old pup, which of course was making her very scared. I voiced my concerns within the first few minutes, and was told the dogs would settle down once class began. Unfortunately, that didn't happen. The instructor was unable to speak for long periods because of the level of noise from the barking dogs, I had to take multiple breaks as my puppy was getting very nervous (really the exact opposite of what you would hope for in a group class experience that should be geared towards building confidence, not fear). We stuck it out for the entire class, which ended up being only 3 five minute exercises. My dog could not have been more ready to get out of there. After that experience, I emailed the owner of the business, Karen McCarthy. I expressed my concerns and disappointment with the two failed classes. Her response was pretty bizarre and extremely defensive. After a few back and forth emails, I decided this was just not a good fit and asked to be refunded, since they did not deliver anything close to what I had been told I was paying for. She has since stopped responding to my emails and cannot be reached by the phone either, it is definitely the most negative and bizarre situation I've ever experienced. Do not waste your time and money here!
