What a find! I have employed Brian's Welding for two projects at my home, both a little on the eccentric side. The first was a custom made gate that was a copy of one that I had seen on a brownstone in New York, a relief of the Man in the Moon with a rocket projectile stuck in his cheek. Not a simple thing, but Brian arranged for an artistic metal shop to mold, cast and stain the piece. That was probably ten years ago now. I smile every day when I look at it. Recently I called upon them again to build a steel shelving unit in my garden on which to place large cymbidium orchid planters for display and shelter. Super happy with that job too. I also must say a word about the company culture. Everyone who I have met there is uniformly, courteous, informative, helpful and downright friendly. Everyone appears to be happy to be there. I definitely would recommend this business. I called the business and Diana answered right away. I followed up with her with an email and she set an appointment. All seemed fairly straight-forth. During my appointment with Brian, I worked with him to design a pedestrian gate for my home. I had a rough vision of the gate's design and Brian sketched the design for me and helped to make a great finished product. The quote from Diana came back in-line with my budget. I visited the welding facility during the initial mock-up of the gate and met some of the other members of the business. Everyone I met were so nice. Brian's shop is very cool. In 2004 we had work done on our yard and we used Brian's welding for the two gates, which looked beautiful. Fast forward to 2022 and the finish is still fine but I wanted to brighten it up a bit. They came out and showed me the color that they recommended in the initial painting (2004) and it was just what I was looking for. Similar enough to the original color but so much more vibrant. They came removed the gates with care and took them back to be powder coated. They then reinstalled them a few weeks later and I could not be more happy. We have a big front yard and two very active little kids. We invited Brian to do an estimate how much it will cost to do two gates and fence in front of our yard. He explained everything that needs to be done and said he will send us an estimate. I waited a week. After that I called his receptionist and she said she will let Brian know. He didn't reply. Brian was here Tuesday 4/18. I called Tuesday 4/25. I tried calling again several times on Thursday 4/27 and Friday 4/28. Either the receptionist recognized my number and didn't want to talk to me because she didn't have an answer or that is how they work. She didn't call me back either after I left her a message Thursday. Today, Sunday, 4/30 I received an email from Brian that he cannot do the project because he has not done such a wide gate before. He wasted 12 days of our time when we could find others and have already an estimate. Didn't he know when looking at our project that it will be a wide gate or at least he could of said NO the next day or within a few days. Therefore, I do not recommend this Business to anyone. We put in a new fence with 2 gates for our Victorian home located in the historic old quad in Santa Clara. Brian was able to adapt to the architecture of our house and the creative process was actually fun! We visited Brian at his facility in San Jose. He showed us a ton of samples and then came out to our house to do measurements and on the fly drew out some options until we hit exactly what we wanted in our price range. When his crew came out they staged the base fence so I could see exactly what it would look like and made a few modifications that I'm sure added time/difficulty but never saw an increase in the original estimate. There is a reason they have 59, 5 star reviews! I have recently renovated my house and spent plenty of time dealing contractor's/handy men and everyone in between. Brian and his team are a cut WAY above the rest. They are responsive and respectful, show up on time and do the work in the time they estimate. They are a little more expensive than other's, but their quality work is way above everyone else. They don't cut corners and don't try and sell you on extras ( I hate that the most ). Brian is honest, upfront and friendly. He made the whole process as easy as possible while including me in every step of the process the ensure I was getting exactly what I wanted. He came out to my house and drew up a sketch on the spot that was amazing and my gate looked almost identical to it in the end, with the few alterations my wife and I picked later in the process. They have been in business a long time and it shows. The majority of the crew has more than 10 years with the company, and they act like a family. They all love the work they do from the interactions I had with them. That meant a lot to me, I don't want someone hiring last minute help who doesn't care about the business and just slapping work together ( which I have seen in my home with other contractors ). One more note about quality, you get what you pay for. Yes Brians gates are a little bit more but I will never have to replace them and they added value to my home. Brian and his team just installed my trash/garbage bin and the results are just amazing. He does the most beautiful work. He turns practical, utilitarian necessities, like garbage receptacles, into works of art. He used dark wood and welded metal to create a bin that is so easy to access. No more balancing a heavy trash lid, while I hurl big bags into my old bin. Brian also created our backyard gate with the same wood, metal, dark chocolate combination. Recently wasted months waiting for Brian's Welding. We needed a nice driveway/entry gate and it is a sizable project. Brian came out and looked at the job and agreed to help us, and said he would send design ideas and a proposal. After literally a month had passed and getting nothing by email, I spoke with Brian's office manager/wife at least three times on the phone. She assured me for over three months that Brian's email was coming soon with concepts and budgets. Never got that proposal from Brian, not even a polite message explaining their silence, just empty promises. Coincidentally, Brian has an Angie's review describing how he and him and his office manager/wife have done the same thing to people before. PS I read Brian's untrue response to a negative review by my friend who I am helping and who has had many projects over the years with great contractors. Brian first "owns" the negative review and then back tracks and personally trashes my grieving friend. I was shocked at Brian's unprofessional comments in a public forum, for one reason because I was part of that meeting and thought it went well. We met with Brian for 45 minutes and Brian was 100% in sales mode and seemed eager for the job. My friend had lost his son a couple of weeks earlier, but I remember him as professional in the meeting. I can't believe Brian is now making stuff up and criticizing my friend for responding to passing neighbors who had given condolences. What a cheap shot! It was at most a minute or two and I barely even remember it because the rest of us kept talking. If Brian honestly wanted to pass on the job for that or any other reason, why didn't he just say so politely then, or ever? Instead, Brian and his wife kept the job in their backlog by promising a proposal, and my friend lost months in fixing his place up for his son's Celebration of Life. Rather than apologizing, Brian insults and blames my friend. For what, exactly? I guess the tip off should have been that Brian quotes JFK at the bottom of his emails about having high standards towards others! LOL! Warning - I'm OCD. I fuss over every detail and I'm very picky. I contacted Brian when we decided we wanted to take our remodel up a notch and replace our double gate. It was a redwood gate that didn't fit into the design we were using. Brian was very friendly and came out and made some very good recommendations. We worked out a great design, metal and wood gate/fence panel/house number using ornate branch/leaf design . The install went smoothly. So what do we think? Well the gate (and matching fence & house #) look stunning. The gate works perfectly. The 2 parts fit closely and you get that solid click when it closes that screams high end quality. We get positive comments from just about everyone that sees them. Bottom line is Brian is as knowledgeable and friendly as you'll get. His shop produces metalwork second to none. It isn't free, but well worth it for the quality, professionalism, and friendliness. I had a tiny little job, which was to repair an antique brass fixture, broken in two pieces, brought from Italy. I was pretty worried that the brittle and old metal alloy would be hard to make like new. But Brian did better than new... he did a fantastic weld which could not be detected from the front, and on the back side did a very nice job of grinding and polishing just for the sake of nice detail. The shop shows attention to design and detail and good feng shui. He showed me some of his gate designs in progress, and I am probably going to use him to replace our front yard gate, based on this small job, and the very nice gate designs I saw in progress at his shop. I had just put in new stairs during a house remodel and needed a new railing. I was referred to Brian's from a stair contractor and was told that I might need to wait awhile to get an estimate. I called and left a message and was surprised how fast Brian showed up. Brian grew up in my neighborhood so we talked about all the folks we knew and then I showed him a few ideas I had and photos of what I liked. I originally wanted a formal railing since that is more in line with my homes style, but on this project I wanted something more whimsical, fun and organic. Before I knew it, he drew out a design that had me excited. The process took a while but we were still finishing up our stairs and having the treads stained so it all worked out fine. The guys came over to rough fit the railing and that was so much fun to see in process. Very exciting! A few weeks later it was ready to install. It looks fantastic! Brian even managed to fit in a metal bird within the design. That bird gets more comments than anything else. Our postman loved it so much he took photos of the railing and bird.
