I was upset to be personally and falsely attacked for posting my review. Incredibly, Brian's Yelp response is that the one meeting I had with him went terribly and so he had his wife cum office manager lie to me for three months that the design proposal and budget he promised were indeed on the way--- when the truth was he had no such intention. Not knowing him, I had believed him and assumed that he was just very busy like everyone nowadays. He would get to my job at some point like he said. Now that he states that he was actually bullshitting and just stringing me along for months, and that he never really intended to do the job, I feel even better about giving up on him and hiring Victor Hernandez. Victor in my opinion is honest, does better work and is extremely professional. We are completing a five year, $1.8 million, total rebuild of our home we bought in 1993 and Brian was the only contractor out of dozens who let us down like this, let alone who (by his own unapologetic admission) acted unethically.Obviously, I am feeling even better I moved on. We will likely have our place in fitting condition for our son's remembrance, something that is of more importance to me than anything else right now. His faux sympathies about that are, well.....in character. We wish Brian, his wife and the customers who have been pleased with him nothing but the best, but fortunately there are very many metal fabricators in the Bay Area and this is not one we will be returning to again. read more

Our electric gate opener was no longer working, and since the model had been discontinued, we were having a hard time getting it repaired. We feared we were in for a BIG expense replacing it, and we had hoped for a longer lifecycle before needing to do that. Enter Karl, of Brian's welding. He offered to come by and check it out before replacing it, and it turned out to be a simple reset button which we were unaware of. In the process of pressing the button, he also explained things about the unit, and the welding job that had been done to install it. Yes, we were charged a full maintenance charge for pressing a button, but that button saved us thousands of dollars, and educated us about what to try in the future if we have another problem. In addition to saving us money, it was a true pleasure working with Karl. He is very responsive by text and phone call, knowledgable, articulate and refreshingly non-condescending. They fixed the center stand on my BMW motorcycle, and did a super job. This breakage is a problem for BMWs, but I am sure not Brain's main sources of business. Attacking this new repair challenge they were very inventive and clever. I found OEM parts for $238 and more, but $40 they engineered a much better solution. Their solution is much stronger than the orginal OEM replacement part. They were so careful I didn't even have to take the stand of the bike. They are very friendly, knowledgeable, clever and responsibly priced. read more

Great company through and through. During a really painful, prolonged landscaping and driveway replacement project, the gate was by far the easiest and smoothest part. Brian and Adam worked with me on several revisions of a completely custom design. They were both creative, patient, and helpful. The install went off without a hitch. I then wanted to put a magnetic lock on it, which again was a totally painless process. I've since needed a few adjustments to the electronic opening mechanism, and Karl has been super friendly and helpful, coming out twice on a moment's notice and taking the time to walk me through the process, explaining how the mechanism works so that I can make the adjustments myself in the future. This is such an easy review to provide. We wanted a security gate for our front door. But we wanted something that also looked great. Brian came to our house and looked at the situation. While we were looking at his computer at previous gates he had designed he sat next to us and in no more than 20 minutes sketched out on an 8 1/2 x 11 sheet of paper the most beautiful design of vineyard grapes on a trellis like structure. It was exactly what we were looking for. A classy gate with a side panel. When it was tack welded they brought it to our house in Fremont to be sure we liked it and then they did a pre-fit. That took about three hours. Then they took the gate back for final welding. We then went to his facility to pick out the powder coating finish. He patiently guided us through all the choices. They did the final install a couple of days ago and that was almost four hours. It looks absolutely great. The gate itself ( not including the side panel) weighs about 100 lbs. and is perfectly balanced. On each of the two visits his crew was polite, very professional and cleaned up completely. At a friend's recommendation, I contacted Brian to replace a wooden pedestrian gate with something more secure and aesthetically pleasing. As others have mentioned, he came out, talked through what I needed, asked lots of questions, sketched out some designs that were just what I wanted, and then quoted me on an additional project that I later decided to skip for the time being. Within a week of our meeting, he had the project well underway and I went to OK it at his shop (in the Ryland neighborhood near downtown). We talked about embellishments and he showed me the greatest closet full of amazing iron decoration. With so many options, I had no trouble deciding. Another week later, it was installed with care by his workers, and Brian also chose the lock set based on my need to re-key. All in all, I couldn't be happier, and my neighbors and random strangers walking down the street regularly compliment me on the gate. Oh, and I just arranged with him to do that extra project after all--what am I waiting for??! Even though the driveway gate is not their work, he'll repair its stops at both ends of the arc, and tack weld the "slats" of the gate so they don't rattle. He admired the craftsmanship that had gone into fabricating this handmade piece, told me what he'd recommend, & that he'd be very careful with it, and gave me a very reasonable price quote. Brian made excellent sketches right on the spot and that gave me a feel for how the various options would look so I could make a good decision on what direction I wanted to go with the design. I'd been looking for a good metal gate for our standard suburban driveway and couldnt find anything appropriate. I found Brian here on Yelp. I wasnt originally planning to have my gate custom designed and built, but I decided if you're going to do it - do it well. Brian was great. Came to visit and walked us through a huge selection of styles & designs that he'd built and installed in the past, then he noted down the specs of the design we'd chosen - which also allowed our own little additions. Mid way through the job we got to go to the workshop where we saw the gate in development and could make changes if we wished. Visiting the workshop was an experience in itself. I know nothing about driveway gates. I saw the good reviews on YELP and thought I'd call and pick their brain. I was lucky enough to speak to Diana in the office. She was fantastic. I told her what I wanted to spend and it was clearly less than what their quality products cost. Knowing that, she still was very helpful and even offered to search on the internet for another company with some "pre-made" gates in my price range.
