I searched for several weeks to find a company that would actually show up and provide a quote for a difficult, special project. None did...except Ron. I have an custom entry archway arbor with gates that was crumbling away, but the jasmine vines are intertwined into the existing structure so I couldn't just take it down and start over. Ron meticulously measured the curves and angles and was able to "perfectly" match everything so the new steel he had fabricated could be bolted to the existing structure to stabilize it with the plants in tact. The new gates were identical to the old in shape but of superior metal and workmanship. A totally lovely moon gate arbor! Many considered this to be an impossible job, but Ron performed a miracle that gets constant complements. He was professional, easy to work with and straightforward with his estimate and work progress. I would, without question, hire him again and unequivocally recommend him. read more

I contacted Ron about a broken weld on a bike-related accessory product. I sent Ron an email (with pics of broken weld) around midnight. I asked him if he would be interested in repairing the weld. To my surprise, he responded immediately (within minutes) with detailed analysis of the break and recommendations. He determined the weld was defective, and he recommended that I contact the manufacturer and ask them to replace the part. I did that, and the manufacturer replaced the part for free. I went to RB welding to get the CAI on my car welded and I am very satisfied with the results. Since I only have one car and forgot to bring tools, I had to borrow some tools from Ron to get my CAI off. He was extremely nice about it and had no problem letting a total stranger use his quality tools so right away I was very impressed. As it turns out the aluminum that the CAI was made out of was a very touchy material but Ron had no problem getting it done. After putting a lot of effort into the weld he still wasn't satisfied so he gave me 50% off the total! I was very impressed with his knowledge and appreciated that he let me hang around the shop while he was doing the work. Rich and Scotty kept me entertained as they learned how to use a new CAD software and the two friendly dogs on top of that made the shop feel very welcoming. We contacted RB Welding Services to replace the existing indoor hand railing in our house with a more contemporary design based on drawings that we provided. It was a pleasure to work with Ron during the planning phase of the project. He was knowledgeable and worked closely with us to fine tune the design of the railing. His price quote was reasonable, and he was very eager to do this work for us. The contract was signed at the end of October with the clear understanding that the work had to be finished before Christmas. Ron assured us that this would be "no problem", and his goal would be to get it done before Thanksgiving. Unfortunately, that is not how things turned out. Despite our best efforts to help him (provide access to the house on many weekends on his schedule because he only had help available during weekends, park a car outside so that he could use the garage for his materials and not be affected by rain, help with carrying heavy pieces and other tasks, etc.) the progress was very slow. Ron missed the Christmas deadline, and subsequently promised completion dates as well. Furthermore, we became increasingly worried about the quality of his work that in our opinion did not meet the "high quality and standard of workmanship" that Ron had promised us. It appeared that he did not have the appropriate tools available, and spent a significant amount of time figuring out how to fabricate the necessary pieces, often resulting in the need to redo work. In particular, the section that follows the circular stairs was giving him a lot of trouble. Even after several attempts, he had not been able to find a way to properly bend the bars for that section. At the end of February, which was 17 weeks after the signing of the contract, which specified that the project would take "approximately 4 to 6 weeks", Ron asked for a progress payment that according to the contract was not due until completion of the project. In our estimation, completion of the project was still at least 4 to 6 weeks away. Ron refused to continue the work until we made this payment. At this point, and after consulting an attorney, we terminated the contract due to "breach of contract" on his part and started to look for another contractor to finish the work. Fortunately, we were able to find a very capable and understanding licensed contractor, who was willing to finish the project and repair some of the most severe problems with Ron's work. This took another 2 months, and significantly increased the cost of the project. But fortunately the second contractor was able to fabricate the most challenging part of the railing in outstanding quality and aesthetics. Unfortunately, Ron felt that he had not been appropriately compensated for his work. In our estimation, the percentage of the total contract amount we had paid him exceeded the percentage of work completed. Meanwhile, we have also learned that it is illegal for an unlicensed person to perform contracting work on any project valued at $500 or more in labor and materials. According to the California Contractors State Licensing Board, RB Welding Services does not hold a contractor's license. RB Welding Services had also done another project for me previously, which was a stainless steel collar for a mailbox post. I've been very happy with the work Ron did for that job. So I feel that RB Welding Services is a fine company for small welding and metal fabrication jobs. But Ron does not have the experience, tools, and resources to handle larger multi-week jobs. read more

I needed a welder to shape one end of the torsion bar for the trunk lid of my Subaru Outback Sedan and I found R and B Ornamental Service. I called and left a message.. An hour later a fellow, Ron, called back. He wanted to know about what I wanted to do and asked me to text him. After several exchanges of text Ron said he could do it and would come over my place the next morning. I was pleasantly surprised that he would accept a small project like mine, one that essentially requires using his welding torch to heat up the steel bar and bend it to an angle of 15 to 20 degrees. Ron came the next morning ( a Saturday) and took the bar back to work on. In an hour Ron called saying that the job was done, another surprise to me that he was so prompt and efficient. The reshaped torsion bar fits perfectly, ending my half-a-year search for a solution to the problem of closing my car trunk properly. Going to his place to pick up the torsion bar, I realized that Ron was doing other more elaborate projects.
