Super chill spot. You only really find out about this place through other people. There's no sign, so when you're telling your friends to meet you here, tell them head to Central Kitchen. I've been here twice. Once to meet a dear friend, the person who told me about it. I trust her, so I knew I'd like it. Two ladies having a drink in a place bright enough to make everyone look good haha. The vibe, I like. Although the food is good. This might not be the best place to go if you're hungry. It's a good place for drinks and a chat over music that isn't loud. The next time I went, I invited my friend from out of town. He seemed to like it as well. This is the most laid back bar I've been to in the city thus far. Cocktails are yummy and not too strong. I went here with my friend last Thursday night. The servers were sweet and always made their rounds to check in. The other staff members were very professional as well. I would say the crowed was 24+ ; Everyone seemed to have a good time. I remember going to this bar before and really digging the atmosphere and awesome drinks. This time around the drinks were good but the bar was too loud. I asked the waitress to turn down the music and they complied for like ten minutes and then cranked it up again. I'm not sure I will be back very soon. Very cool spot in Central Square. As many others have noted, Brick & Mortar is completely hidden and unmarked. Just head up the stairs next to Central Kitchen and you'll find the dark, cozy bar. We sat at the awesome copper bar and spent some time chatting with the very knowledgeable bartenders. They had a few great beers on tap and a delicious sounding cocktail menu. I tried a few of both and was very pleased. Food wise, there were some solid choices on the bar menu. We tried: - duck confit fries (thought I would like them more) - grilled octopus (great -- probably my favorite of the night) - bacon wrapped dates (so good, wish there were more!) - mussels (very good + they brought out extra bread for soaking up the broth) Overall a great experience. I imagine if I lived in Central Square I'd find myself at Brick & Mortar on the regular! read more

I was honestly sad to see the beat down couches of Enormous Room hit the curb not long ago, so I went into B&M with a skeptical eye. But.. My expectations where surpassed. On three occasions, Kenny (nice dude, half sleeve) made the best cocktails I've had in the area (but I still love you Green Street). I'm sipping on a fascinating Fears & Failures right now after a god damn perfect Sentimental Gentleman. Add those up with a deliciously unconventional small plate menu and you earn yourself some stars. read more

This place has a really good atmosphere. The food menu is small, but it's great stuff, served late, with a gourmet twist (example: instead of wings with buffalo sauce and blue-cheese dressing, it's apricot-habanero glaze and feta-cream dip). The cocktails are great and the beer selection is small but well-chosen. The only notable disadvantage is that there can be a long wait, and it can take a long time for the staff to get back around to you. Not that the staff is unhelpful, they're a friendly bunch. It's just hard for them (or anyone) to see anything through the crowd. I do wish I'd visited more in its previous incarnation, though. I suppose that can't be helped. read more

Stopped in for the first time for a beer last night- we almost breezed right past it due to lack of signage, but thankfully spotted the door man, who checked our ID's & held the door as we entered. He was so nice- that was a great introduction to and first impression of Brick & Mortar. It was nice & crowded at 9pm, but not obnoxiously packed; regardless, bar was full, so we snagged a table in the back so we could all sit & chat. Hostess immediately brought us some menus & the server/cocktail waitress was at the table quickly. I appreciated her promptness, but did NOT appreciate her snark. She must have had us confused with folks who care that she "HATES" the beer 3 of us ordered. I asked for a drink, not your opinion, girlfriend. At any rate, drinks came fast as well & we were loving the exposed brick, the variety of clientele, & the music- the tunes were one of the best parts. Old R&B- A little Sam Cooke & a Slumbrew is my kind of Saturday night. We left after one round, but agreed Brick & Mortar is being added to our rotation of Cambridge haunts. Yeah, I just love this place. What more is there to say? Ok, probably a lot.. I've never tried the food here but the cocktails are always on point. Even on some of the busiest nights I've never had a problem grabbing a spot at the bar. Give me a spot at the bar and feed me gin cocktails all night and I'm a happy girl. The bartenders are always very attentive and friendly. You get your random mix of patrons that some times can be incredibly irritating, rude and downright skeezy. But hey, it's a bar. The bathrooms can also be a little iffy, with ridiculously long lines at times. The dimly lit speak easy vibe with the exposed brick and copper bar top really just adds to it. Absolutely love this bar in Central sq. I live down the street and when i don't feel like going too crazy but want to have a good time and good drinks this is my GO TO spot. I love the ambiance here! Exposed brick, the huge bar and the fact that is never too crowded with people pushing u over or dropping drinks makes this the perfect spot for me. the drinks and service here are amazing: i really like the french 75 which is a champagne cocktail. On a Friday night, expect standing room only, but small parties can probably get stools within 20 min. We had burgers ($15) and they were good. Not quite as good as, say, Deep Ellum, but definitely top notch gastropub burgers. Fries were fantastic. Staff were attentive despite the chaos. I haven't had the food, but I have had drinks here a bunch of times, so I will make this review short and sweet. 1. The drinks are absolutely amazing. All of them. They have plenty of off-menu drink as well, so make sure to point and ask, "what is that that person over there is drinking" if you see something that looks tasty. 2. The atmosphere is super cool. This is a great destination spot to bring people. It's hip, it's funky, it's classy, it's mysterious, it's impressive. They even spin records. 3. It was hard to find (easy to miss the door w no signage). The phone number from Yelp didn't work. But we asked a friend and he directed us to find the door to go upstairs to the location. Then we got there and they weren't serving food anymore (after 5 on a Sunday or something like that they don't do food). So we were off to a bad start however the bartenders were very cool, drinks were good and the environment was great (love the look and lighting). Not gonna lie: I love a good secret resto/bar that makes you feel in-the-know when a friend shows you the unmarked door to its establishment. Brick & Mortar was just that, and it didn't disappoint. The cocktails were small but tasty, and the food was a quality interpretation of typical American bar food. The menu was not extensive but it seems to change often. The service was not stellar but it wasn't upsetting. The atmosphere was great, and the crowd was a mix of younger professionals and Cambridge locals. I would go back, for sure. read more

Nice to have another pre-club choice in Central. Pretty copper-topped tables, friendly hostesses, nice dark ambiance. Food is all small plates, we had crostini, steak sandwich, mixed nuts..maybe one more, I forget: small for the price, but tasty. Drinks with cute names - I had a "doublewide": coke syrup and jack. Maybe my tolerance is high but they seemed a little weak, so I switched to wine. I'd go back, but only on the way to somewhere else; you'd have to spend a LOT to not leave hungry and thirsty. read more

I live in Central, but I love Drink in Fort Point. I've been sorely disappointed by a number of other cocktail bars, but so far, I love Brick & Mortar. It's also a dollar or so cheaper than Drink. The atmosphere is cozy, warm, and romantic. I've only been here on weeknights, but it's small and looks like it could get crowded quickly. The door is unmarked, making it a bit hard to find if you don't know where you're going. There is a small selection of beer, but the real reason to come here is the cocktails! I should start by saying I loved the Enormous Room. I enjoyed that I could go to ER if I was feeling dressy or if I wanted to wear sneakers, and I enjoyed that there were different DJs every night and that the music was one of the main selling points of the bar. Needless to say, I was very very sad when I heard the ER was closing, but I held onto some hope that this newer, revamped version would be better. I was hoping for a new and improved ER, but I got something completely different. With that said, I have no problem with change. I went to Brick & Mortar with an open mind, and I was excited to see what they'd done to my favorite bar. When I arrived, at 10:30 on a Friday night, my two girlfriends had just gotten in from the line outside, and despite their having a spot waiting for me inside, I still had to wait outside in the line for 20 minutes. When I got into the bar, I could see why there was a line outside; you have to sit/stand at a designated spot at one of the long high-top bench-tables. It was almost like Wagamama if it were a bar, the way you share space with the people next to you. Our waitress was very friendly and smiley -- a far cry from the staff I remember bumping into at ER. I also had a couple of bites of my friends appetizers, which I may have gotten more of, if I hadn't had to wait in line by myself -- but I digress. The food was pretty good. These are both bonuses. The drinks from the menu were good. I had the Corn & Oil (or something like that), and it was pretty tasty. One of my friends had a drink that tasted like cough syrup though, and had to send it back -- I was glad to see that they happily obliged and replaced her drink with a variation of an espresso martini (this was created for her by request, btw), which she did like. The bar's nice, but too big. I think they overcompensated for the cloak room that was the bar at ER. They might have been able to avoid the absurd line outside if they hadn't made such a huge bar. The music was random. I don't remember what was playing exactly, but I do remember saying, "what's with this music?!" I wanna say I heard 70's rock mixed in with a couple of new songs; it just seemed very random and theme-less to me. Maybe the point was to make sure no one gets the urge to start dancing where they stand, as in the days at ER. If so, then mission accomplished - there will be no dancing at B&M. Earlier that night, while I was in line outside the bar, two girls asked the guy behind me if we were all waiting in line for Enormous Room. He told them, "Yeah, but it's Brick & Mortar now." They then asked him "What night is it?" His reply was, "They don't do specific nights any more. It's pretty much like any other bar now." I am a huge fan of this place! It's a got a cool hipster vibe without being too hipster where I feel unwelcome. The drinks are creative and the bartenders keep it interesting. I like that it's kind of like Drink downtown but in my eyes, cooler. You can tell them what you like and they will get wild behind the bar making your drink. Fun after work place to grab a drink of 5 with friends or even solo. Get here early and sit at the bar and people watch. Prime spot to watch blind dates happen. read more

I love this place for everything it is and everything it is not. I take 3 out of 5 of all my tinder dates here. It is: casual and off the beaten path yet well constructed. The copper bar is the definition of beauty in simplicity. It makes the space in an unassuming way It is not: pretentious or rapacious. The bartenders will give you helpful suggestions if you're looking for them but won't but into your conversation to entertain themselves. This is one of the best cocktail bars in Boston/Cambridge. It is clearly nothing like the Enormous Room and please do not come here expecting it to be. This is a bar for brilliant cocktails and great food. The bartenders, including Misty and Evan, are some of the best around. Misty was named best bartender in the country and Evan comes from Deep Ellum and the Independent. They can make anything and they will make it delicious. The bartenders also tend to play great music on the turntable behind the bar. read more

I lOVE Brick and Mortar. It has become my go to bar, and not just because it is located right by a T stop (which is super awesome). The staff are kind and friendly, and the drinks and snacks are to die for! I bring all my friends here and have never had a bad experience. Whenever I go here I feel warm and welcome. Not to mention the walls are lit from the floor, so you can see the menu by holding it against the wall. It has a really cool and well designed aesthetic.
