    Mocktails from Bar
    Salma S.

I wanted to have a fun night out dancing with my friend, so we decided to go to Havana Club - and we loved it! It's a Latin dance club, and on the day we went there was a focus on bachata and salsa. There was an hour long class to teach basic techniques before the open dance floor started, and I really loved it because it gave beginners some direction on how to dance. It made everyone feel welcome and no one felt lost or overwhelmed. The place itself is so cool with a very trendy design that adds to the vibe. Most importantly, it feels very safe. There was no point that I felt uncomfortable, so my experience was great. The music itself was incredible, and the staff were so friendly. Also, my friend and I ordered mocktails from the bar, and they were delicious! The bartender made us a fruity cinnamon mocktail that was exceptional. The price of the club is also great - it was only 15 dollars, which is such a good price considering the amazing dance class and open dance floor that is open for hours. I really loved Havana Club, and my friend and I agreed that we will definitely return soon.

Ultimate best place in town for Salsa and Bachata social dancing experience! Before the party ignites, there offer fantastic and fun-filled classes suited for both beginners and advanced dancers with talented instructors. You'll find the most friendly staff and welcoming people here, eager to share their passion for dance and make new friends.

I've just started working the door at the Havana Club in Cambridge on Sunday and Tuesday nights (those are 18+ nights, no alcohol) but I'm a longtime fan of the club and I want to get word out to more people. Nobody asked me to write this. Havana is a Bachata/Salsa dance club that also gives lessons in these dances. The patrons I meet are always very nice and it's a really down-to-earth, fun environment - great for meeting friendly people who are open to meeting others, in a safe and welcoming environment. And the dancing is just as cool to watch as it is to take part. I've worked in regular dance clubs, both in Boston and Las Vegas, and while they can be really popular, the Havana is a very different experience - I've never felt inclined to recommend any of the other clubs I've worked at. Anyway, if you or anyone you know might be interested, come see for yourself. Havana has a lot going for it. Incidentally, the other doorman (and p/t manager), Chris, is a super nice guy who's popular with all the regulars. Ditto that for the owner Jeff. Everybody treats everybody well. Here's the website: https://www.havanaclubsalsa.com/ See you at the Havana! Adrian.

Salsa lessons every Friday and Saturday night ($12 per person)
    Amy C.

Came here with my partner at 9pm on a Friday night for their salsa class. Keep in mind, we both have zero dance experience and two left feet (for a total of four left feet). I almost bailed on the experience because I felt so nervous and awkward beforehand, but once we got into the venue the ambiance and my partner convinced me to stay. They have salsa lessons every Friday and Saturday night from 9-10pm for $12 per person. The lessons are upstairs in a dance studio-like venue, with hardwood floors and a hardwood raised stage. The lessons were quite good, especially for someone who has no idea what salsa entails. The instructor walked us through several basic dance moves at a slow enough pace that even someone as kinesthetically-challenge as me was having a good time and able to understand the moves. At 10pm they turn the club into a dance floor with salsa music and dim lights. A lot of people show up for the 10pm club so it was pretty packed. It was a great chance for us to practice our moves, and I even saw the instructors dancing with some of the audience members. Overall it is a great experience for those who want to learn some basic salsa.

The sign (put out at night)

Great place for dancers. I'm not from Boston, but I would have had a hard time to find this place. It must be a dancer's secret - no sign on the door, just a little temporary sign that is put out at night. I guess it's an old warehouse/bldg that they use. If you are a regular salsa dancer, then you will be fine. Lots of different styles and people to choose from. If you are a beginner or not sure how to dance, then I could see this place being a little intimidating. But definitely go for the lesson. I took the intermediate lesson and learned some cool shines (fancy footwork) to work into my dancing. Overall, I had a great time. I got a little annoyed with some guys who will say "no" to dancing with you until they see how good you are, but most people were very friendly. And people were from EVERYWHERE. I danced with guys from Florida, Venezuela, Colombia, Boston, and wherever else. One last thing - GUYS, please ask girls to dance. Yes, Hurrah, women are independent, but we still like to be asked out on the dance floor.

It definitely moves quickly (so pay attention!) but I left with a definite grasp on basic salsa and bachata moves.

My two friends (one male, one female) and were dancing together for most of the night. An older man with white hair started circling the three of us, with his eyes lasering in on me the whole time. My friend finally commented on his weird behavior and we all went to sit down. Later on, I heard one song I really like, and got up to dance. The old guy made a beeline for me as soon as he saw me, and got really close to me. I gestured to him to stop (palm towards him, meaning "stop", with a stern look), and went to the other side of the dance floor. He then FOLLOWED ME across the dance floor and kept it right up, dancing really closely and staring at me. I gestured "stop" again, and moved far away from him, and he followed me AGAIN. This dude just would not quit. Then he started waving his hands towards my body, getting close, almost touching me. I left the floor. At the end of the night, I went and told the facilitators. The younger guy I told just stood there, with an annoyed look on his face that read as "this isn't my problem". The older woman I told said that I should have told her about this at the break (even though my friends and I had showed up AFTER the break). She said something about "filling out an incident report", but she didn't explain the process, meanwhile, people were breaking down the lights and equipment, and it was getting noisy. This woman didn't create a space to deal with the issue, and she made no effort to follow up with me. She offered me free admission next time, and she said that she hoped me coming again would involve "shifting my experience" of what had happened. This pretty well pissed me off, as it's this harassing guy's BEHAVIOR that needs to shift, not my perception of it. Having been blamed for not reporting an incident before it happened, and having gotten nowhere with the staff, I got my stuff, left, and never went back. If you are a young woman, do not go! Creepy old men will descend on you, which apparently is just business-as-usual to these people. I imagine they think of it as "breaking down the boundaries" and "being intergenerational", but it's really just a place with poor security, where men are allowed to get away with predatory behavior. Growing old does not magically make a person good! There are creeps of all ages. One of them has white hair and a propensity for circling young women like a creaky old shark at Dance Friday.

Pure pleasure. Interesting creative people. Enjoy! Re: "The painful truth" review, there are two sides to everything. I deeply regret the experience this woman had. We have people to help with safety issues and we have had many discussions of behaviors that are not allowed, body language, etc. to prevent such events. We have banned dancers occasionally over the years for behavior like this. We encourage dancers to use their voice (in case for instance the offending person's sight was not good, or gestures were misinterpreted), and there are designated people to get a message across when it is not understood & respected coming from the dancer themselves. Forward people can be found on any dance floor, but Dance Friday IS a SAFE place.
