My friend and I were hungry but it wasn't 7 yet (when most establishments open). We saw some folks outside Pao de Canela and asked to be seated inside. We were quickly seated at a inner table and given menus. I ordered a beer and the Bacalhau de Lisboa, not knowing in the moment this would be a life changer! The beer, the Super Bock, is ok. I've had it a few times and it's decent basic beer, like a Stella Artois. I was sipping it when my entree was delivered. I didn't immediately know what to make of the bacalhau, but I dug in. Ohh, what a wonderful taste! It was a mesh of salted fish and hash brown potatoes with some sprinkles on top. I ate the whole thing in no time and wished I had more. I got a brownie with gelato for dessert and that was fantastic too. The space itself was immaculately clean and the staff were friendly and helpful, especially given some of the language barrier. I enjoyed the initial visit so much I went back again the next day for more bacalhau and it was just as good. Only difference was I ordered a side of veggies to enhance the meal. I will be around the area for another week and I think I'll stop by for dinner again before I return to the states.

Everyone was so nice, incredibly friendly, and the service was fast. The atmosphere inside is so cozy - like you all are gathering in someone's dining room for breakfast. I enjoyed that. There is a small seating area outside in the alley/breezeway and people will bring their dogs and sit outside and have a coffee. My husband got the ham and cheese croissant most mornings and really enjoyed it. The staff there speaks multiple languages across the bunch which is incredibly impressive. Really casual - a lovely breakfast and coffee spot.

Bife da vazia a marrare "Beefsteak sauce" was my choice and my wife got the paella negra which is black in colour using squid ink. Both dishes took some time to come out but they were hot and fresh. The steak was thick and juicy. The gravy was different because they use mustard along with the traditional Portuguese brown sauce. It really hit the spot. The steakhouse fries were crispy and soaked up the gravy nicely. The paella negra was made just right. Not too dry and not too saucy. I would have wished for more seafood but the dish was executed perfectly. Compliments to the chef! Overall, we enjoyed the meal and the price point is reasonable considering it's like one block off of the main strip. I recommend this restaurant based on my experience.
