Well, we're old, and we've been coming to Brick Oven (or Heaps, as it was once called) for almost 60 years, and I have to say, something is changing. Historically we've always had great food here, and we haven't been for a few months, but we were here just the other night with family for a graduation party, and almost everyone on our party commented the same way - "it isn't what it used to be". I don't know if it's changed ownership, or what has happened, but the quality of the food has gone downhill. I had the all-you-can-eat soup, salad, pasta bar. I always love their chicken noodle soup, but this time it was watery and not creamy like it's always been, and the flavor was entirely different. The salad bar was good, but their traditional green ranch dressing is no more, and all they use now is cheap, white, runny ranch dressing. The pasta bar was fair, but the selection of the sauces, I felt, was poor, and the marinara sauce that I settled on for my only trip thru was very watery. My wife ordered a small pizza, and it wasn't great. Very dry, hardly any sauce. Our server was great, no problem there, and the atmosphere is still good here, but their food quality is declining, and THAT'S what we come here for. Feels like they're cheaping out here. This is one of those pales that has grown out of tradition and do somethings really well while other things are kind of mediocre. But everyone goes here or brings out-of-towners because it's someplace they went to as kids or BYU students. The pasta bar is very good with great sauce or gravy (if your from back east) options. Every cause I tried was great. Good Italian sausages and meatballs too. People rave about the freshly made garlic bread but I found it rather ordinary and more or less like we make at home, maybe we make better garlic bread at home than most people? But I was not impressed after all the hype. Great house-made root beer. Great Salad bar. Here is where opinions and tastes really matter, everyone told us how great the pizza was, we ordered three to go after our meal to take home. I was disappointed in all of them. Yeah, they are better than grocery store pizza but with the level of praise these good I was expecting something like Mellow Mushroom or high heat wood fired pizza. I found the dough too thick and ready and lacking in any buttery or crispy edges. The toppings were not special, canned or generic brands of meats you get at any grocery store deli counter. Maybe in the past it was once fresher and les from cans. The sauce was surprisingly lacking, if you are the kind of person who likes pizza that's really just bread with some cheese on it this will be your speed, one of my daughters doesn't like pizza sauce of any kind and she likes this pizza. For mee ti was way too thinly applied and with the really heavy cheese they use I felt like I was easting over priced cheese bread. The cheese itself was not the traditional mozzarella, it was some kind of blend that had a Gouda or goat cheese taste, some may love that but for me it was a turn off, maybe because I wasn't expecting it. The decor is fun and interesting and service was really good but over all for the price I was disappointed. Stick to the salad bar and pasta and you'll be very happy. read more

I think you really get what you pay for here at Brick Oven. I think the prices are extremely low and reasonable for the type of food that is offered. It's more of a quantity over quality type of place. I dined here during a random Tuesday night and the place had a good amount of patrons. My table and I shared a Meats-A-Pizza, which comes with pepperoni, salami, ham, bacon, and sausage. Despite having a lot of toppings it surprisingly lacked flavor. In fact, most of what I tried from Brick Oven lacked flavor. We also had the add on of unlimited access to soup, salad, and pasta bar. The salad bar had extensive options to choose from and the pasta bar was a fun concept. You get to choose the shape of pasta and protein, but the noodles could not have been more overcooked. I tried the pesto cream and tomato sauce, both were devoid of flavor. The meatballs were also extremely spongy. The clam chowder soup actually had good flavor, but was covered in a film of oil, which was off-putting. The garlic bread was pretty good too, but yeah mostly everything else was okay. Our waiter was very attentive and nice and the space is decorated with random Italian and pizza themed knicks knacks. Used to love this place but it feels like a few things have changed over the years. All the employees are super friendly which hasn't changed but the salad bar had several vegetables/toppings that were wilted/didn't seem fresh. And the pizza was alright, the crust was a bit over cooked and hard. I did appreciate the amount of basil and the balsamic drizzled over the pizza was a nice touch. The appetizer of the artichoke dip was creamy but I needed more artichoke flavor. It tasted mainly of cheese which was good but missed the namesake flavor. read more

Brick oven has always been fun! My husband and I tried the spinach artichoke dip and it was fantastic. It comes with slices of garlic bread instead of chips and that was so much better! They have great root beer. My husband got the Buffalo chicken pizza which he enjoyed. I did the pasta bar which is all you can eat. It's great. The line for it can be long though. read more

Stopped in here on a trip today, for the first time ever, and it blew me away! So much delicious fresh food, friendly people, great ambience and awesome prices! I ordered the 8" pizza and salad bar combo, with a homemade root beer. Salad bar had an abundance of fresh ingredients. Super disappointing. Food was average, she me was even not good. Server wouldn't allow us to order from the kids menu for my daughter in law that doesn't have a big appetite. That's just poor customer service. I ordered the buffet, but they were out of so much. Advertised chicken pasta, but they said they ran out of chicken 2 hours earlier. It was only 6:00pm. However my daughter ordered a chicken salad and they had chicken for that. Then we asked for cookies for the dessert bar. In my opinion they make the best margarita pizza--I am always comparing other margarita pizzas to theirs and I am yet to find one I like as well as this one (and I've been searching for 9 years). I was pleasantly surprised by the Pineapple BBQ pizza; I don't usually go for pineapple on pizza, but JD's suggestion was spot on, and it ended up being a highlight of the meal. The atmosphere is cozy and inviting, but the overall quality of the food didn't quite stand out. While I wouldn't go out of my way to return, I'd happily join if friends invited me. They offered us separate checks which is always greatly appreciated when dining with friends. I ordered the special, an 8" pizza with a trip to the salad bar. Born and raised in Utah and Brick Oven is always my number one recommendation!!! My family's been coming here since they opened in the 50s and it's always hosted our birthday parties, bridal showers, etc.. The service here is the best service you will ever receive. The employees are the sweetest college students that are so on top of everything! They make the experience a great one! It gets super busy on weekends and whenever there's a BYU game but if you plan it right you can beat the crazy rush. The salad bar is ALWAYS clean and filled with amazing quality food. Their house made buttermilk ranch is my favorite! I drench my salad and pizza in it! The Garlic Chicken pizza(featured in my photos) is my order and it is SCRUMPTIOUS!! If you go you always have to get a root beer as it is homemade and without a doubt the best root beer you'll ever have. We decided to visit Brick Oven at the last minute and got lucky when the wait was only about 35 minutes on a Friday night We ordered two kids pizza, chicken fettuccine alfredo, and the pasta bar. They messed up one of the pizzas, but they brought us the mess up and were already working on remaking it when they brought out our food (wrong ingredients). The pasta bar had some more unique sauces which was fun for my s/o to go around and try the different flavors. The Alfredo was so good and so was the garlic bread! I saved half of it so I could have a second meal. The pasta came with the salad bar which had a good amount of ingredients mixed from people dropping them into other containers. All the dishes were pretty close together and you had to reach over some to get the ones from the middle making spills inevitable. My concern was for people with allergies if they were to not see something mixed it could be dangerous. It either needs to be monitored closer or move the foods further apart. Our server was excellent he checked in frequently despite how busy the restaurant was and our toddler forgot a toy and they held it in the front for us to come back. Kids get a free lollipop with their meal and they were pretty large and our kids really enjoyed them. The food is alright snd secrets are kind. But not very effective. Admittedly we were a large group of 27, but there were many ordering errors and some people who didn't get their orders. We've done this in c the past without much better service. The staff tried to compensate and made statements to compensate for items that ran out and then forgot and didn't follow through on their promises. My wife and I dropped by here around Valentines Day and we had a great experience! We both had a salad bar trip, and the bar itself had plenty of options. Shortly after they brought around some garlic bread for free, and that bread was perfectly cooked and flavored. I ordered the create your own calzone and my wife got the French dip sandwich. This is one of my favorite places that I use to eat at alot when I lived right by there in Provo. As someone from New york, I'll speak on it it's not new york pizza but they are great regardless. Got a chance to go back there this last week and actually decided to go in for once. The service was great, the pizza was hot through the course of the meal and the soup they had was pretty good too. Place wasn't loud at all and it was just a nice thing to get a table on a Wednesday afternoon, relax and have some comfort food. If you havnt swore off soda try there Rootbeer it's great. This place is straight nostalgia. We would always go to Brick Oven after our dance recitals, so it has been super fun to bring my girls here. The salad bar is well kept and stocked, which I appreciate. There are also "sweet" options at the salad bar, which includes chocolate mousse pudding and bits of cookie. The soups are lovely - my favorite is the broccoli cheese. The pasta bar is my favorite, but I can usually only go through once before I'm full so I never get the buffet. Their homemade root beer is a must. If you get it in a float or Brown Cow - even better! Their cookies are thin, but they are soft and yummy. We had a party of 20 of us and we were able to have one of their private rooms; it was awesome! Mike was our server and he was constantly refilling our fresh root beers and drinks! The pizza was delicious; my favorite was the Chicken Alfredo pizza! We did their "Heaps Sampler Meal" ($15.99 per person) and it includes 10 different kinds of pizza to choose from, their soup and salad bar, garlic bread, dessert pizzas, treats and their fresh root beer! We were a loud and rowdy group; we had 7 adults and 13 kids so it was a good thing that we had a private room. Well traveling on business I like to explore some of the non-chain options on the number of types of foods. I saw brick oven in the name and thought to myself "yes" and got really I would absolutely recommend them when you're in town because the pizza was excellent the crust was crisp and delicious. Brick Oven's customer service is the WORST there is in Utah County! I took my wife there for her birthday and were seated in booth. We were then ignored by the staff for over 40 minutes while we waited and waited for someone to take our order. Finally, a kind family in another booth told their waiter that we had been not been served...then the staff at Brick Oven finally took our order. It was very frustrating and awful experience for an evening that should have been filled with fun and happy memories! Last week I stopped by Brick Oven again to get some soup for my 85 year old mother who was getting home following surgery. I ordered the soup at Brick Oven's "to go" counter...this was an hour before their dinner rush, so it was not busy at all. There were 8 people just standing around chatting with each other. However, it took almost 20 minute for them to ladle one quart of soup and put two pieces of bread into a bag and hand it to me. How long should it take to prepare a quart of soup and hand it to me? There were no apologies...nothing! AWFUL, AWFUL CUSTOMER SERVICE! Don't go there! I will never go there again.
