    Farm Breakfast
    Melanie M.

I come here at least 3x a month and it's nearly always for the Farm Breakfast. That omelette with the melty cheese inside, crispy bacon and perfectly cooked potatoes are my dream come true. I know everything is good because everyone I come with tells me so but for this gluten free, nightshade sensitive mama, nothing is better than this elevated basic. I love the coziness and excellent service as well.

I'd give Communal 5,000 stars their food is so good. Cheddar biscuits, farm breakfast, and banana bread were so good service is great. Food is fresh. The whole vibe is amazing and feels elevated. Love the open kitchen. 10/10 slay

Beautiful and delicious brunch! Get a reservation just in case. The prices were not three dollar signs for the brunch menu. Closer to two dollar signs.

Lived in this city for years and I can't believe it took me this long to check it out. Parking is fairly easy, there is a garage near by and lots of street parking + small lot behind it. We had a reservation and were seated promptly. Our waiter was really nice and everything we got was really flavorful. The place itself is also very cute. Clean and modern inside. Will be checking out the dinner menu soon.

Food was amazing! Farm to table, fresh ingredients in every dish. The crab cake benedict and fried chicken biscuits and gravy were a favorite with the group. The portions are generous so come hungry. The service was far greater than the food though! We had two reservations for six each, and our server quickly offered us a 12 top in the private room. It worked out perfectly for my boisterous family. Despite being busy our server continued to go above and beyond from french press coffees, special food orders, and even a group photo outside. Highly recommend this place, and I will be back for dinner service soon!

I got the shrimp and grits for their lunch menu. The sauce was amazing! I just wish our food came out faster. We waited quite a while for our food to come out. My mom was also seated close to the window and it was hot inside. No curtains either. Everything else was great other than that though. just know that it will take a looong time before you get your food. If you can wait, then wait.

Stumbled upon this restaurant while on a work trip. It ended up being SO GOOD. The food and ambiance were exactly what we were looking for. The staff was great, knew every plate by heart and was very friendly. Overall a great spot.

Communal is always an excellent dining experience. We have been there for large family group dinners and many smaller visits. The menu is unique and they always utilize locally-sourced, fresh ingredients. The atmosphere is casual, but refined, and it's a lovely space to enjoy a meal. Service is always exceptional.

Charming restaurant. Very friendly, helpful staff. Fresh, satisfying food. Favorite restaurant in Provo.

How often does the menu change?

    about 3 times a year.

    Is the polenta GF?

Yes, the polenta is GF (and delicious to boot!)

How does this compare to SLC's $$$ fine dining?

I think it is as good as places like the Copper Onion, Pallet, Francks, and Provisions. I think it is better than Log Haven and Tiburon.

It was good, but I'm never going to spend $15 on a salad with a little chicken in it. I know they need to build their small business and pay their expenses, and I hope they can succeed, but I personally can't afford it and I expect their location and price is going to be a deal breaker for others in the end.

The A/C was not on, not prepared for a warm March day. The soda machine was out of order, at no point did the employee offer up a bottled drink to substitute the fountain soda. They were also out of croutons. All in all it seemed like this place was not prepared to have customers and provide them with an excellent experience. This place is extremely overpriced.

While I'm not planning to go 100% vegan, I still love restaurants like this that offer so much variety. Everything is meatless which is hard to find in Utah county. The food surprised me and my spouse. Everything was tasty beyond expectation! We repeatedly said how delicious it was throughout the meal and talked about coming back and bringing other people with us. You could tell it's family run and everyone was really kind. We each got a dish and shared an appetizer. We left super full and happy. My husband said he would happily become vegan if this is what it tasted like all the time lol. The teriyaki chicken was pretty good - sauce and all and the vermicelli was refreshing. But the egg rolls weren't very good and had little flavor. You order and pay at the counter and then they bring your food to your number. There are many booths and tables though the lighting was a bit dim. But then came the steak, which was flat-out the best I've had in years. No notes. Here's the thing though, I'm not a gnocchi person. Never have been. Our server talked me into it anyway, and I'm genuinely grateful. It's a short rib and stew situation with gnocchi that somehow hits every note perfectly. Total convert now. And the s'mores pie to close out the night? Simply perfect. Don't skip it. The service was great too, our server clearly knew the menu inside and out and steered us exactly right.

However, we did have one drink server where we had some issues with, but our main waitress was lovely. For starters, our table shared the baked ricotta, balsamic glazed brussel sprouts, and bread rolls with honey and butter. The brussel sprouts were good, but the bread rolls were my favorite! They were so incredibly soft and pillowy. They honestly didn't even need the bread and butter! I was most excited for the baked ricotta, but unfortunately it was a disappointment for me. Ricotta is a very mild cheese to begin with, but I tasted absolutely zero flavor from it and it was mostly just adding a textural element to the bread. The fig walnut guanciale jam was overpoweringly sweet and the guanciale was also nonexistent. Overall, what I expected to be a flavorful combination, fell pretty flat and bland for me. Onto the main, I got to try the Block burger and the house made gnocchi. The burger was a standard burger, nothing too crazy. I was surprised the patty was actually moist because it was cooked well done. The same jam from the baked ricotta was used, so wasn't a big fan of it because again the overwhelmingly sweet didn't do much to elevate the burger. I also missed any flavor from the truffle cheese sauce. So it was a pretty average burger. My gnocchi definitely tasted better than it looked. Another friend also got the same dish and it looked like they just split our portions in half and served it on two separate plates. In general, I wasn't a big fan of this dish. The braised short rib was very tender, but the whole plate sat in a pool of salty sauce. I couldn't really make out any other flavors. The scoop of crème fraiche tasted exactly like sour cream and was not the consistency that I expected. The gnocchi's were made well, but I prefer mine a little firmer. However, this is complete personal preference. Overall, service was good, but food fell severely short of what I expected. I was so excited for all of these elevated flavors and ingredients, but, sadly, none of them came through.
