I've been coming to Traverse City for a very long time and though I'm cemented to my local bike shop Great Lakes Cycling in hometown Ann Arbor, Brick Wheels has been my go-to bike shop for emergency service when we need help while in Traverse City. Service department has been stellar, responsive and reasonable. Someone fell on my wife's bike yesterday, trashing the rear wheel - I got a thoughtful pros-and-cons from the service department on truing the wheel vs a new one, not up-sold at all and very customer-centric with good advice and solid answers to my questions. Repair was done within a couple of hours despite the fact that they were busy. Friendly, well-informed and they did what they said they would do in half the time. That has characterized my experience with this shop over many years. I'm surprised by one reviewer's negative experience - I have to believe that was just an aberration, because the culture of this shop for more than a decade since I've been visiting has been friendly, customer-oriented, expert and attentive without being obnoxious and always high level of service. I've only used their service and bought accessories, though last year as I was considering a new Cannondale, they urged me to ride one of theirs even after I told them upfront that because I valued my local bike shop relationship, I was not going to buy a bike from Brick - they still spent the time and let me take one of theirs for a ride knowing I was not going to buy that day. Nice people however rental bikes are not up to par for what what they charge. Rented an elite road bike. Had 2 flat tires within 14 miles. Were only provided with one spare tube and should have been provided with many more. I suspect the tire was more or less worn out. Ended up having to call a car to get a ride back to the bike shop. Not a good experience and would never rent from here again. read more

I've been utilizing Brick Wheels as one of my main bike shops for over 30 years. It's always been a friendly, fair and informative place to pursue any bike quests. All the employees are knowledgable and friendly, which comes from consistent good management. Even the shop dogs are top notch :-) Back in the 90's I got my recumbent bike. in 2010 I got my regular road bike. The owner, Tim Brick, was one of the originators of the Mountain Bike scene in the US, organizing one of the first World Cup races in Traverse City in the early 90's. They have a great selection of clothing and bikes at competitve prices but the vibe is what draws me in. read more

If you have a problem with your bike, TAKE IT HERE. I was up north from the Detroit area specifically to ride and I problem with my bike. They were super awesome. They looked at it right away, despite being busy. They took my bike and got it fixed way faster than I ever expected. Also, i ask a lot of questions in general and they patiently and throughly answered every one of them. They showed me the problem on the axle, so I felt confident that the repair/replacement they made was necessary. They also answered all my other random questions. I would take my bike back here in a second. In fact, if/when I get a new bike, I'll make a trip up there to buy it from them. There is not enough good things I can say. I am so grateful for their attentiveness, happy with the service and thrilled they got me back up and running for the next day. read more

Traverse city has a great bike trail that runs through the city, so renting a bike while visiting was an ideal way for me to see city without a car. I am NOT an avid cyclist...in fact, before renting from Brick Wheels, I had not ridden a bike since 2007! Anyway, renting from them was super easy and affordable. They provided me with a lock, helmet and a basket without any additional charge. The bike was pretty standard and they adjusted it for me before I left. I have been a customer of Brick Wheels since I was in high school. That is where I bought my first "real" bike about 12 years ago. I know have a young son and that is where we've bought all three of his bikes thus far. They have an amazing trade-in program on their kids bikes... Buy a bike, ride it for a couple years till they grow out of it, bring it back to Brick and get half back of what you paid for it toward the next size up. Quality bikes that last. The staff at Brick Wheels is amazing. They are so passionate and knowledgable and they live what they sell. They are quick to give a smile and offer their expertise. Blew a tire on the trail (didn't have a patch kit) so I had a friend pick me up and drop me off at Brick Wheels. Gabe in service had me fixed up with a new tire and tube on a very busy Saturday (Labor Day Weekend) in five minutes. Realized at the register that all I had was some emergency money on me which was not going to be enough to cover the repair. They accepted what I had as payment in full at a pretty big discount to the stated price. We've spent some money there in the past on a couple of bikes and it was nice to see that they took care of me in return. I stopped here my tour around Lake Michigan to fix my brakes and get some chain oil. The guys in the repair shop fixed my brakes and fixed 5 or 6 other things on my bike. If you are ever on a tour around Traverse City, stop in to get your bike checked. read more

I have made numerous purchases at Brick Wheels and have always received top notch service. Items as small as a water bottle to mountain and road bikes. The sales staff is knowledgeable and did not try to "oversell" me something more pricey or beyond my ability. Free tune ups for both after the break in periods. Purchased a pair of high end sunglasses and over a yr later broke a nose piece. Went back to the Store and without question they ordered a new piece and a few days later it was replaced free of charge. A company who stands behind the products they sell. read more
