I was in Harrisonville for the farmers market and noticed Brick Coffee House across the street, so I stopped in to see if they had tea. What I found instead was a cozy little spot on the corner of Lexington and East Wall Street with made-to-order breakfast. I ordered the creamy sausage gravy and found myself a small table to enjoy it. While I was there, people were coming in and out--grabbing pastries, picking up to-go orders, or settling in with their laptops to work. The atmosphere felt warm and inviting. I was greeted right away by a friendly cashier and one of the baristas, which made me feel welcome from the start. I often go out of my way to find interesting coffee shops and had only found this because I had to stop by in Harrisonville on this one particular day. The building's architecture lends to the place's appeal. It has an old worldly vibe, which is interesting. I ordered a mocha which was pretty good, and It wasn't terribly sweet. Brickhouse is located in downtown Harrisonville, great coffee shop location. They carry an extensive food menu, which is so nice to see for a coffee shop! I had the breakfast burrito and I appreciated that they toasted the whole thing so that the tortilla was slightly crispy. The flavoring was decent, nothing to write home about. The major win for this coffeeshop is the menu, the spaciousness of the place, and has ample seating. Downtown Harrisonville, MO in the square we found a really good coffee shop. We ordered a coffee and a sausage, egg & cheese croissant. We didn't get a # so we got lost in the shuffle. We went to the counter to ask about the sandwich and they apologized and took care of us immediately. When she brought it to the table she apologized again and offered us a cinnamon roll for the trouble. We declined because they handled it so well. I was craving some coffee while in Harrisonville and decided to give this little place a try. Super cute and a HUGE place! I love the coffee board and the explanations of the drinks, many people get confused by the different drinks so I think it's a great idea! As far as the coffee though I had ordered my cortado and the girl making my drink didn't know what it was. The other girl explained it to her, but it was very weak and tasted like a small latte. The girl was very kind and asked me what I thought about it so I gave her my honest opinion. I'm just under the thought that before you are going to be a barista you should know how to make every drink well. I love checking out coffee shops in other towns on vacations and road trips, it gives me a perspective on the vibe of the town. This weekend Harrisonville was my first caffeine break after leaving KC on my way to central Missouri. The Brickhouse is on the corner of the old town square, kitty cornered from the Cass County Courthouse. Tall ceilings with brick walls surround large open spaces with stone and wood accents with lots of natural lighting and a faux chandelier centerpiece in one of the two main rooms. It appears they have a downstairs but it was roped off, possible due to the Covid issue(?) and a patio. Speaking of the Covid issue, I was startled to witness no employee wearing a mask. Coming form KC where it is a requirement, I was quite shocked that management would not mandate it even if Cass County is not requiring it for food service employees. On a more positive observance, I liked the descriptive chalkboard art showing the different cup sizes and strengths of caffeine for all standard coffee shop drinks. Exactly the kind of visual my wife needs to order espresso based drinks in confidence. My tight stout Machiatto was spot on. read more

But my biggest complaint about this place is that all the plates, cutlery, etc, are plastic and not recyclable and that's just irresponsible. We have heard a lot of good things about this place so decided to give it a try. It is really a nice place and I loved the decor and seating etc. a full order of biscuits and gravy will set you back $6.49 and a half order $3.99. While I thought this was quite high for an item that costs so very little to make, I decided to give it a go. My wife and I always just order water when we go out to eat as we think it's a huge waste of money to pay for sodas etc. I was appalled that brickhouse charges 25 cents for a glass of water that is served in a cheap plastic cup. If I am paying $6.49 for a an order of biscuits and gravy I don't feel that I should have to pay for water. While I'm aware 25 cents isn't much, it's a matter of principal and bad business practice and is just plain tacky. We were served our food a short time later. The biscuits and gravy were served with bacon bits and onions sprinkled on top which were a nice touch. The biscuits were average in size and the gravy wasn't anything spectacular. It certainly didn't meet the expectations of what I had heard from others. The atmosphere is quite charming and a nice quiet place with soft music playing in the background. I hope the owners read this and will consider not charging paying customers for water read more

Harrisonville has a handful of places that are both locally owned and truly impressive. After several visits, I can say Brickhouse is at the top of that short list. We've been here as a family several times, but will never be back after our visit yesterday to celebrate our daughter turning 9. The server seemed bothered by the size of our party (9) as we had a three of my daughters friends with us as well and are already a family of 6. After failing to seat us for over an hour when tables to meet our group size were available, and people with the same size parties that arrived after us were seated, we did finally get a table. The server response to my daughter regarding it being her birthday was 'oh'. Drink orders weren't taken for 10 minutes and the waitress treated us like a bother every time she came to our table. The kids are hungry and anxious at this point and so I asked her about how long the wait would be about 20 minutes after ordering. She snapped 'I ordered it!', but never answered my question. The food then arrived but we were missing THREE MEALS for the kids! One of my daughters friends started crying asking if she was going to get a meal. The waitress didn't answer, and then went to another table and started taking orders. I waited until she was done with the other table and asked what the problem was and if the rest of the food was coming. The waitress came over to the table, used her bare hand and grabbed another kid's food and said "can't she share with the others?" I said no. I will spare the readers the remaining details of our visit. I did pay for everything (including the food contaminated by our servers ungloved hands and the food that came boiling hot to children 10 minutes after everyone else's food had been served and was now cold) and tipped the least I've ever tipped at 10%.
