As the only brewery in Copper Harbor, I definitely recommend it. It's cozy, the people are friendly. They do offer flights as well. As of August 2023 no Tag-A-Brew. There was a food truck the evening I went. If you sit outside you can get your beer in a plastic cup. It was enclosed and I presume dog friendly. I stayed inside. It was fun looking at the stickers on the ductwork and reading the painted bricks. The drawback IMO was that they didn't have much on tap. Two of their regular beers were out. I found the beer average at best. Sorry to the fans out there. The flight board is awesome. read more

We have enjoyed many beers here over the years. Mostly during the summer. The last few times we have visited have been during the winter and the beer has basically been vinegar. I understand that there isn't a lot of traffic in copper harbor during the winter but there comes a time when you have to dump old beer. We will go back but there are lots of other places to drink beer. read more

How I wish I could give this more stars, but.... I'm not sure how long they have been brewing for but by the taste I'd say a month or so. I'm not a brew master but I have been brewing since the mid 90's and I live in Yakima Washington which is where 75% of all domestic hops is grown, so let's just say that I've had a few pints. We stopped by Brickside today after a trip to Copper Harbor for a much anticipated beer. My first pint was their Dry Stout. I'm not sure how you make a dry stout taste like a dark sour but regardless, they nailed it. Contamination?, poor technique?, wrong yeast?, all of the above. I have always felt that a stout was the easiest to brew because it can hide a lot of flaws but their stout is flaw forward. It is a pour out for sure. Their IPA was not much better. I'm not sure if they use the same yeast for all their beers but by the taste of the IPA I wouldn't be surprised. No dry hop nose , just sour skunk. This review may sound harsh but the brewer needs to know. I have always learned more from my mistakes than my accomplishments so he could learn lots from the beer that is being sold. For those who may read this review save your money and go to the party store across the street and get a six pack of good beer and drink it on the beach, this way you won't be disappointed. I did give this two stars only because the gal pouring the beer was nice. Also save your money and get food elsewhere. The food truck there serves nachos that are worse than movie nachos. Anyway.... Cheers to Brickside and I hope you can do better. read more

We were so excited to make it all the way to Brickside Brewery, the northern most brewery in Michigan! How cool is that? Brickside is a tiny brewery in the town of Copper Harbor the tip of the UP. It was the end of July and the little town was hopping! Brickside has a nice selection of beers on tap, but was not offering flights due to Covid. We sampled a few beers and decided on a red and IPA. They were both very good and hit the spot after a day of driving & sightseeing! We really enjoyed our experience. They do have a small area for outdoor seating, if that is your preference. The highlight of our visit was the owner's dog who kept us company! We can't wait to come back. read more

In 2016 I picked up the Michigan Brewer's Guild magazine from a Detroit area brewery and found the map of every brewery in Michigan inside. I decided to make it a goal to visit all of them, but I especially wanted to go to Brickside seeing it all the way at the top of the state. This year, I decided to plan a brewery trip to get to Brickside, and I made it! The inside is pretty small, yet they have enough beers that it was hard for me to decide on which to choose for a flight (four beers included in the flight). I enjoyed all of the ones I chose, but I liked the pale ale the most (I forget the name of it). My friend liked her beers as well and found one of the IPAs to be the best. We stayed for a pint after our flights, and enjoyed sitting with other visitors and chatting while enjoying our beers. The place was packed with people, but there was room for almost everyone to sit with room to spare. It was the Fourth of July, so I'm assuming that's why the city was busy, but it was fun! It was worth the brewery trip and the drive up to the area. I wish we could have stayed for longer! read more

I stopped in here as the family went nextdoor for ice cream and snacks (too bad they were closed). There were only 4 beers on tap, so I gave a random IPA a chance. It was really good, kicking off with a lot of flavor and not having an overwhelming hoppiness. It was really inexpensive also, I want to say maybe $3 before tip. If COVID weren't going on, it would be a pretty cool place to hang out for a drink. read more

I got the flight to be able to try all their beers overall most were good a couple I wasn't a fan of but for 8 bucks for the flight I can't complain. Odd thing about this place is to get food it all comes from a food truck all outside not sure why but it does. What's weird is some of their prices for fish are higher here than at a sit down restaurant which it's usually the other way around. As far as the loss of a star it smells pretty musty there which I get cause of the brewery but the place is also so damn tiny with the smallest seat area I've ever seen. read more

Service was excellent, with the bartender even playing with our 7 month old and giving him a solo cup to play with. Beer was awesome! I recommend the farmhouse beer and the hefeweizen. The beer is ok, a bit different than any other brewery I've been too, it is worth a try. Biggest drawback is the owner's holier than thou attitude. I grew up in the area and come back once a year, now I see what it's like through a tourist lens and this place does not represent the area in any way. Great beer if you like Microbrews 2 guys brew in morning, and run bar in afternoon (make sure to chk hours). I had sampler and Saison was my favorite. Porter and Stout were also winners Light beers...well they were light beers. Could add some salty snacks other than chips....like crackers and cheese or meat sampler. Could serve a bar with 2X as many seats. Brewmaster very insightful. $5 Bombers is fair price. Open year round. read more

Old news to you veterans of the UP. But, if you are new to the UP like me, take the longer route via highway M-26 to Copper Harbor. Very scenic drive right along the lake. Once you get to Copper Harbor, you'll find this unassuming little gem, if you are a craft beer and Taproom fan. Taproom is expected rather small, yet larger than expected from the look outside. Maybe holds 40 - 50 people. I understand the building was previously a small grocery store, than was closed for several years before being bought/ renovated into the current Taproom/ Brewery opening in June 2012. Taproom has a small bar - seating 6-7 people, plus several tables /chairs to sit and relax with your favorite beverage. No outside patio area as I recall. As expected, no food served on site. Bartender was very helpful/ knowledgeable about he beer and the history of the place. I ordered the Park Bench Porter and later the Stone Ship Stout. Both very good. I think the UP IPA showed stats of having 1000 IBUs. Not really, maybe 129 IBUs, if I remember right. I can't confirm since their website is under construction. But, this should clearly entice the hophead fans. Overall, I give Brickside Brewery a solid 4 rating. Definitely worth the visit. read more

Pleasantly surprised by their beers. Their Stone Ship Stout is very good, but with an ABV of 9.4%, a couple is more than enough. The bartender (Erika) was knowledgeable and friendly. I will definitely be stopping here again when I'm in Copper Harbor! read more

The Park Bench Porter and Stone Ship Stout are the two beers to enjoy. The Park Bench Porter has a lot of flavor for the minimal alcohol content. The a Stone Ship Stout is also is flavorful and pleasantly rich. I never chase any of the other beers, but that's fine. I don't need six great beers to enjoy a given microbrewery. I gravitate toward porters and stouts, so I love going here. There's no hot food, but you can order a goat cheese pizza from the Mariner North across the street and enjoy being in the northernmost brewery in Michigan. read more

We drove 10 hours to check this brewery and other things in the area out and were completely disappointed with this brewery. We walked in and sat at a table for a good 10+ minutes and no one came over or even acknowledged us. We made eye contact with the bartender multiple times and never said anything to us. We travel to Copper Harbor often and spend as much time in the Brickside as we do on the bikes. Hey, it just works out that way. Jason is knowledgeable and can be funny as can be. Like some of the other reviewers have mentioned, the brewery itself is quaint and totally fits in CH. As far as the reviewer who mentioned there not being any food, there are great places to eat in the Harbor and then swing in after. The Mariner Inn has Brickside's 22 oz at the bar so you can still have some with lunch before you head to the brewery. I am a porter/stout guy and really like the Park Bench Porter followed by the Stone Ship Stout. If you find yourself in the Keweenaw take the time to stop by and give it a shot. We visited Brickside Brewery three months after opening. The place is an unassuming tap room. The beer was fresh and yeasty. Comes in bottles. It is difficult to judge a new brewery by the first batch so I'm going to leave the beer review for next time. It was tasty but very yeasty. The Brickside is squished right up next to highway 41 on the way out of town and a short bike ride from the campgrounds at Fort Wilkins State Park. There's plenty of bike parking out front, and when you walk into the taproom you enter through a space they use for storage. It has a nice homey feel, not at all pretentious, and I can imagine it being cosy on a winter afternoon. There was a good mix of regular customers and visitors, the bartender was friendly and just the right amount of attentive (and quick to pour a beer). Customers were friendly, too, and a bar that brings a good crowd is usually a good sign. My neighbor at the bar recommended the Wilkins Wit (if I remember correctly), and that was a darn good beer. We also sampled a few others - the stout and Porter were both solid, while Scotch ale was okay but not great. If you want to try new beers and support a really micro microbrewery, make Brickside a stop on your visit to the Keweenaw! read more

I'm not a beer person--more of a spirits girl. I like the taste--but since I'm a diabetic with an iffy stomach--a pint of craft beer seems equivalent to eating a pound of pumpernickel (with foam). Still, I LOVE the Brickside. While my husband is greatly enjoying a pint or two I can sample $1 tastings or a $2 generously poured half pint (we are from Chicago-so these prices are incredible) of interesting and substantial brews. And--we have never gone to the Brickside without engaging in lively conversations with a mix of visitors and locals. The easy going good humored staff (who clearly love the beer) create a great pub culture that is welcoming and fosters friendliness--but is never intrusive. I love the wood, the coziness and the smell. Great place! read more

Came here last week when I was in the Harbor. Although not a brewery per say it is a brew pub. It is kinda what I would expect out of a Yooper brew pub. The beers were good, I had the IPA and wife had the Wheat. There are games for the kids like Jenga, Uno, and connect four so you can play some games have some beers while the kiddos drink root beer....if I still lived in the area I would go a few times a year, I would for sure recommend this place. read more

As visitors to the UP, this brewery was awesome!! We had a fantastic time and wonderful service. We enjoyed a flight of all 8 beers, and they were delicious! I especially enjoyed the milk chocolate stout, porter, and weissen, while my husband loved their IPA and DIPA. The bartender was so friendly, as were the other guests in the pub! I wonder if the others that have reviewed this nano brewery have a clue what constitutes good beer. Seriously? This place averaged 4.5 stars when I visited. I'm a home brewer of 15 years and love craft beer, so maybe I have high expectations. The beer is OK at best. A house flavor, and it's not pleasant, underlies each brew. Nothing on tap is worth a second visit. The tap room has an interesting funky odor the moment you enter. I find it difficult to believe they sell their stuff off premise with any success. I hope that I just ran into a bad spell and they can step it up a bit, because I really love the local beer push. At 3.50 a pint it won't kill you to try it, but the previous reviewers are way too generous. Pale ale is weak at 14 IBUs really letting the house flavor come through. Do we really need 2 rye beers on tap? The porter is limp as well as the vaunted UP IPA. The stout is the only beverage worth enjoying in any quantity. I want to clink glasses and scream Prost! I just can't. Still better than drinking yellow fizzy beer, but come on, this isn't GREAT beer. **************2nd visit*************************** So I went back to try the brews again the next day. I went here a while back shortly after it opened. Because I pretty much have to check out any brewery nearby, I had to try the place out. The copper bar is pretty cool looking, certainly not anything I've seen before and very fitting for the location. The beer from what I can recall was very good and the atmosphere was just right that day. The brew master was a bearded redhead, not very talkative from what I remember. Not much of a review I know, but it's definitely a place to try if you like good beer, and it's the most northern brewery in Michigan! I always try to support a brewery over a bar, and better beer to boot! read more

I went to Brickside for the first time this weekend. I thought the beer was pretty good, pretty cool you can get a decent craft brew in a tiny town like Copper Harbor. The setting is a little odd, it kind of feels like you are sitting in your buddy's dark basement where he stores all his beer making goodies. I've been doing a July vacation in Copper Harbor for 20 years or more. Love the town, area and camping on the peninsula. I first saw Brickside last year in July 2012, I was hoping they would make it. After tasting their beer, I was sure they would. This year, 2013, we were back and we were very pleased to see the Brickside to be alive and kicking. It's a very unassuming place to sit and try many kinds of brews. Small, cozy and very friendly by both the owners and patrons. I'm not a big fan of hoppy brews so my choices are limited to the porters and stouts. Delicious! My family members loved all the IPA's. I'll surely be going back to Copper Harbor for as long as I'm able to go. Having the Brickside there will make it even more enjoyable. read more

The Brickside Brewery is making outstanding beer in the wilds of Michigan's upper peninsula. Copper Harbor was already a hidden paradise for anyone who enjoys the out of doors. Now, this town offers a well rounded vacation experience. You can bike the trails or kayak the big lake and then enjoy a locally crafted brew. All of their beers are tasty, but the Park Bench Porter and the Walters Weissen are neck-and-neck. The tap room has a window to the brew house, so you can peer into the nursery where the baby beer is born. The brewer is enthusiastic and friendly, and he really knows his craft. read more
