This is one of the larger estate sale companies around and they know their stuff. They have some great staff and really prepare in advance to run the "show." I always find something/s. It's very sad to look forward to a estate sale from the photos they post and then you sit and wait the day before for the 5pm sign up online to get a number. You show up on time and wait to get in only to find out they did a what not show and sold the items you were interested in. Highly overpriced items priced were higher than eBay! This estate sale company sells many items the night before the actual sale on WhatNot. That's fine but you don't know what is going to be there when you go. They say to contact them the morning of the sale to find out if the item you wanted was sold or not. I did that today. Sale was an hour away. I found that this company was a great choice. I was selling my home and really needed to downsize. Bries was recommended by my realtor and I went with it. I had a lot of stuff. Once the appraiser came through I was ready! I spoke with Malinda many times to make sure I was ready for them to come in and stage my items. After the first day, I came home and it was amazing! I couldn't believe how much stuff I had that I didnt know I had. They took such good care displaying my items. Then came the sale.. I came home to seeing a lot had been sold the first day. Every step was seamless and I didnt have to worry about anything. Thank you all, from the ones that staged my home to the ones who where there selling. Brie's was one of the Chicago companies I contacted to liquidate my daughter's estate. Melinda, the first person I spoke with, seemed like a very helpful person. However, the man who came to the house to appraise the sale items, was rude, condescending and gave all his attention to my son-in-law when I was one who arranged for the appointment and would be signing the contract. We couldn't get him out of the house fast enough and I immediately tore up the documents he left. He seemed too elderly for the complicated job he was hired to do. read more

After reading all of these terrible reviews I decided to share my experience with this company. My Sisters and I went to one of their estate Sales and had the worst experience ever. It was the last day of the sale, we really liked some of the dishes that were on sale and were set on getting most of the dishes left. We were trying to negotiate a price and the lady right away said "no. Actually my co worker wanted these." We still bought some items but when we turned around she said "Ugh. This is not a flee market." Not to mention the fact that they overprice the items. There was a jar priced at $50 and when I picked it up there was the original price of $5 from Big Lots. We also witnessed the same lady scoff and mock a customer when she politely asked if there was any way someone could help her with the microwave. Incredible Estate Sales with plenty of locations each week. Most weekends they have 3,4 or even 5 running at the same time! They are professionally run, organized and all major items are priced. Incredible finds at every house. Items are nicely laid out and displayed. You can check out Estatesales.net every Wednesday evening to look at all the pictures of the items in each house before you even go to the sale. Be prepared for a bit of a line at larger sales and have cash to checkout quicker! I have attended estate sales since I was a kid. Many times, you are walking around the house of someone who recently passed or who is at the end of their life, sifting through a lifetime of their memories and possessions. I like to go and look for treasures that will live on in my home. I am not a reseller. I walk around these estate sales and get a sense of the person who lived there- their interests, their family, etc, and I try to honor their memory when I buy a personal item. I am going to sound old when I say that estate sales are not what they used to be. Estate sale companies have ruined them by grossly overpricing items in hopes of keeping the excess inventory to sell for a premium later. Brie's is not the lone offender here, not by a long shot. But the reason I have singled them out is because of a distasteful experience I had a couple of weeks ago. I attended an estate sale run by them in Des Plaines. The woman who had lived there had made it to at least 90, based on some 90th birthday party decorations. She had many lovely framed needlepoints with her name, "Lea," and the year she had made them stitched into them. She was an avid tap dancer who was involved in a dancing group. A bunch of greeting cards were taped up to the wall in the laundry room - among them was a Mother's Day card from her son from 30 years ago. What left a sour taste in my mouth was coming across a photo album in the basement. It was an old photo album, the kind with black pages and slits for photo corners. The photos were in black and white, starting with her younger years, followed by photos of her children. Yes, the photo album itself was "vintage." But it was not yet an antique containing neat old timey photos of people who were long gone. It was the life story of a person who was recently with us or possibly still is, and not only was it priced with the photos still in it, but it was an unbelievable $80. For personal family photos, not a scrapbook with newspaper clippings or the like. I understand that sometimes family doesn't want photos or there aren't living family members to take them, and I am always sad when I see them at estate sales, even though they could quite possibly end up being in the trash otherwise. But this was just a gross cash grab. Please do better. read more

I truly regret not reading all the reviews before going with Bries. I feel completely misled throughout the entire process. They put in no real effort to sell my mother's belongings and priced items much higher than I asked, which likely discouraged sales. They sold $2000 worth of items, yet kept the entire amount, stating it was all eaten up by fees for the staff over three days. It took them over a month to tell me that I still supposedly owe them $372 and they will take that amount from a consignment I have with another person at the company. Which I will be taking back my things ASAP. Also, never received a countersigned agreement. This is a horrible way to do business, and I would never recommend them to anyone! read more

Went to the first day of an estate sale by Brie. Everything was very overpriced. Like charging $2 for a plastic charger you can get at the Dollar Tree. Nobody welcomed me or even acknowledged my presence. Many things weren't priced. I asked 3 people how much an unpriced punch bowl was. Nobody bothered to attempt to find out. Two people asked me if the price was on it. Um no, hence the reason why I'm asking, duh. There were hardly any customers there so they weren't too busy to figure it out. Brie's is the best estate sale company in Chicagoland! Their on-line sign-up sheet should be adopted by every other estate sale company. As a buyer if I had my heart set on purchasing a particular item at any estate sale, I would have to arrive hours prior to the opening of the sale to hopefully be the first one and start a sign-up sheet. For those who are unfamiliar with the first day of an estate sale (an estate sale with popular collectable items), there can be anywhere from 20 to 50+ people 'in line' prior to the doors opening. This in turns means that there would also be 20 - 50+ cars parked up and down the streets irritating neighbors and locals by clogging up the streets or worse interacting with other sale goers with little to no regard to respecting how early it is in the particular neighborhood. With Brie's I can reserve my spot and know which number in line I have the day before the day of the sale. The respect for the value of my time would lead me to pay a higher price at an estate sale (within reason, which they of course are). I can arrive 15-minutes before the sale, and be comfortable knowing that my place in line has been honored. read more

I was with my daughter and the woman who worked there was so miserable and was so rude to her. DO NOT BOOK this company, the reason they do 4-5 sale days is because they don't know how to sell!! Brie's estate sales are #1. I have read the reviews here so my advice to anyone hiring an estate liquidator is to READ and UNDERSTAND the contact before you sign. If you don't understand something, ask questions. If there is something specific you want addressed, have that added to the contract. Rarely does the estate sale business do the clean up after the sale is over. It is up to the family or a clean up crew that the family hires. It is not a free option with the estate sale company. All estate sale companies ask that the family not be present for the sale as it detracts from the actual sale. As a customer of estate sales, I know when someone is there from the family watching me and I just don't buy anything. Estate sale/liquidation companies price things as the going rate. If it's too low a customer can make an offer and see what happens. And theft? HA! that happens so often and people are so clever doing it. And yes, it could be the friends and neighbors stealing. I've been going to estate sales for 40 years and did my mother-in-law's sale myself a few years ago. It was the hardest work I've ever done and I had family to help with the actual sale and they did the clean up too. Never again. I will always hire this done and hopefully my kids will hire my own to be done by Brie. Bottom line, if you are hiring a company to sell your loved one's things, trust them to do so. If you can't do that, and you don't want to take the time to read and understand the contract, my suggestion is to get your family together (or people you already trust if it's not family) and conduct the sale yourself. read more

Another horrific experience with this business. I don't know why I keep trying. 5/11/25. I visited their Inverness estate sale this morning. Today was a nice sunny day, yet they made you wear those plastic booties over your shoe even though the house had all hardwood floors. The booties were made of the cheapest see thru plastic that had no grip, even if you wear sneakers, the traction is gone once you put those booties on. I had a bad feeling as soon as neared the basement stairs. As soon as I took the first step my feet went up in the air and went down those steps on my back, clocking each step as went down. I hurt my back and both of my arms so badly, that I was surprised I didn't break anything. Thank god! After I gathered myself with the help of some random strangers that tried to catch me at the bottom of the stairs, I took the booties off and went upstairs only to meet the sales crew who told me right away that I need to put the booties back on. I told them I fell, but they didn't care. I will never, EVER go to Brie's sales again and I encourage you not to either. read more

A series of unfortunate events... Brie's Estate Sale on Sunday, May 9, 2021 at 393 Emory St in Elmhurst, IL. Hi everyone, I'm not one to leave a review, let alone a bad one, but my family's experience Sunday at Brie's Estate Sale warrants one. 1. My two daughters and I were told to wait outside per COVID precautions - rightfully so. Iwona, worker at Brie's Estate Sales, walked away and several other people walked right in the front door with no hesitancy... ahead of us. As 3 people left the estate sale my two daughters and I walked in as it was our turn. Iwona then tells us we have to wait while there were several parties who walked in ahead of us, but she didn't know because she wasn't paying attention or manning the door. Finally, she let us shop around. 2. As we're shopping around for 20-30 minutes, one of my daughters spotted a police officer approaching my car outside with a parking ticket in hand. We went downstairs and asked the police why we were given a ticket. The police officer said, "Anyone parked on this street was given a ticket because you can't park there. Who is running this sale?" Iwona comes over and LIES to the police officer and said, "I've told everyone they can't park there." a. We were shopping for 20-30 minutes and not once did Iwona announce, "Cars parked on X street will be ticketed." Or anything along the lines of "You can't park there." b. Although Brie's Estate Sales had a "No Parking in Driveway" sign they failed to provide any signage to their customers regarding no parking on the street in front of the house. c. There were several COVID signs on the front door before entering the house, but not one - again - mentioned NO PARKING ON THE STREET d. On the street, the No Parking sign was several houses down and unclear of where the no parking zone was. We are not from Elmhurst and weren't familiar with their street signs. 3. Iwona and her fellow worker proceed to yell at myself and my daughters saying, "It's not our responsibility that you're parked in the right spot". To that I say, yes it's not their responsibility to park my car, but IT IS their responsibility to provide quality customer service. a. For example, at Sister Sales they ALWAYS have signage of where you cannot park and the sisters make sure to repeat themselves until their customers' ears bleed regarding parking announcements. b. If it wasn't Iwona's or Brie's Estate Sales' responsibility why did they LIE to the police officer when asked? Why did they continue creating excuses? Because they know it reflects poorly on them. 4. I called Brie's Estate Sales offices and Melinda, the Office Manager, answered with a rude, short and excuse filled conversation. a. Melinda said Brie (Bridget the owner) doesn't answer customer calls/inquiries, her and Bridget kept making excuses for their poor customer service and Melinda kept interrupting my daughter and I when we were talking. Bottom line, company culture, customer service and attitude is top-down. If Bridget (the owner) won't take customer calls, can't take constructive feedback, can't provide a basic level of customer service how can we expect Melinda, Iwona or anyone else to do the same? So we've been interviewing estate sale companies and had an interview with Bries's. For background my parents estate is almost all antiques in an older two story home. First impressions were not good. Adam from Brie's arrives almost 20 minutes late and when he arrives doesn't apologize for his tardiness. Adam Was certainly nice enough but preferred to dodge our questions. As an example: Question: 'Am I correct that you either take commissions OR your marketing/labor costs, whichever is higher, correct?' Answer: 'oh don't worry about that, everything you have is stellar and will sell!!' Additionally Brie's does have liability insurance while all of the other estate companies do. Lastly and more annoyingly, they don't provide any reports for daily sales. It's up to the client to 'call their cashier'... ? Sorry, that's just lazy... You should at least be able to send an excel file at the close of each day. read more

Went to an estate sale in Mt. prospect Thurs. (On Glendale) The guy that was running the sale was very rude to me when I asked a question. My parents came a couple hours later and they told me about a RUDE guy too! Same guy!! The vibe when you walked in there was cold and like they were doing you a favor. I'm writing this not as someone who used this company to hold an estate sale, but as someone who visited an estate sale run by Brie's. I would never use this company to sell my stuff. My wife and I spent about an hour at one of their sales, collecting about a dozen items we intended to buy-- including a chair and a table priced at $350 each. When it came time to check out, the checkout person ("Sue") was busy doing her paperwork and told us to wait (others behind us got impatient and left the line). By the time she had finished, it was about 20 minutes until closing time, which was 4:00 pm. She had trouble calculating our purchase, and that took another 10 minutes-- so now it was 10 minutes to 4. When we told her that we needed to come back in our SUV (from 6 bocks away) to pick up the table and chair, she said that they would not wait for us even one minute past 4, because "we want to go home." I told her that if she couldn't wait even 5 extra minutes to close a sale worth several hundred dollars, there is something very wrong. My wife and I left, very frustrated and upset. From now on, before I visit an estate sale, I will check the signs carefully-- to be sure it's NOT "Brie's Estate Sales." read more

Everyone has good and bad things to say about Estate sales. Whether you got a deal or paid to much is another thing. I look for the integrity, honesty, and customer service of the team. As an estate & garage sale buyer, I'm always happy to shop at Brie's estate sales. They are always fully staffed, friendly folks, and they are willing to sell. I used Brie's for a moving/estate sale and had a house full of belongings and furniture. They told me they would need 4-5 days because I had so much to sell. I also used their recommended cleanup guy, who left wood chips in two rooms and the front door unlocked. My net amount was very low between the paltry sales and the cleanup as it wasn't even a third of what I could have sold the master bedroom set for on my own. I moved cross country and didn't have the time or manpower, so they did get the job done but I definitely lost money. I enjoyed working with Melinda but the expectations that were set were not met in any fashion. I have no idea what was sold and for what amount. Even the two receipts from Tom Nee, the cleanup guy, weren't itemized. Extremely disappointed. read more

My husband and I have been going to several estate sales in the last few months searching for vintage wrought iron chairs and garden items. We have been fortunate to find some wonderful items. We have been to a few sales organized by Brie and the prices are generally higher than other sales and the items are disorganized. We went to a sale , listed as one day only and because they had posted a picture of an item I was potentially interested in. We arrived about 20 minutes after it opened and there was already a line waiting to get in. Once in I was looking for the item, realizing it may have already been sold. I did not see it and we were leaving a bit disappointed, but it is all about the search. When we left I noticed the item on the side of the house, with a sign not for sale. I asked one of the employees and she said, "oh yes, those were old pictures." She did not offer an apology or "sorry, we should have removed the picture from the listing." Extremely overpriced for junk. I've been going to north chi estate sales for years and I don't even bother going to their sales as I know everything will be marked too high. I had my eye on a carpet cleaner from their pictures. Nothing fancy, it was a Hoover. I went the second day of their sale and when I saw it, it was filthy, never even wiped down and they still were asking $80! It looked like it had been used to clean up years of frat parties, for $80! Brie's Estate Sales just completed an estate sale for us. We are extremely disappointed and feel like the company contacted a big fraud. When we met with Brigid at our house she provided an estimated value of our sale as $15k and the gross sales come out to $15k - a flat number to the penny. Coincidence? I doubt it. The biggest disappointment is that Brigid promised an itemized receipt.  "We have gotten "Miscellaneous household " or " miscellaneous garage " or "Miscellaneous bedroom ". It is impossible to see what was sold and at what price. Also many big items, like multiple fur coats were missing. A few wall art pieces at $150 were not on the receipt. Many items that were sold that were missing from the receipt Another surprise was with their photographer. We told him that many expensive items were not for sale, but he still took pictures and posted them online. This time fraud was for potential buyers as they were looking for non existing items. When the results came in ( a few weeks later than promised) , I sent multiple emails to Brigid, she chose to ignore me. HUGE disappointment overall , stay away from Brie's Estate Sales. read more

BEWARE!! My dad passed away and we needed to sell his belongings. Their contract is written in such vague Terms that afterwards to go after them for missing items on their nondetailed summary without camera evidence would be virtually impossible. Their detailed summary involves descriptions such as miscellaneous kitchen, basement, household, garage, tools, & sports equipment. It hard to pinpoint what was sold, stolen, or given away for free or virtually nothing. There is no contact ever with the owner. Bries associate who coordinates the sale, lives in Arizona. Their associate Belinda nor the owner never do an onsite supervision of their employees nor of the number of customers entering my dad's home. There were no limits on the number of people/customers allowed to enter my dad's home. Do to that fact, theft and ransacking occurred because of a lack of worker supervision. We had two boat motors not accounted for and were not to be sold. Many of the higher priced items were supposedly sold on the last days for 90% off to customers and maybe to themselves or their friends. They disconnected my dad's cable cord which, if he had cameras this would have disabled them. A large safe and all of the backyard missing items were not accounted for on her list. The basement had so many things thrown and left on the floor. Brie's workers and customers were not allowed into the attic, but they did go up there and even into his crawl space. Nothing was accounted for that was missing in his attic. The ransacking cleanup cost us $650.00 which they did not pay us for. There is a BIG REASON why they don't want family members present, neighbors or friends. There is no accountability without evidence. And one other thing the owner of Brie's Estate Sales does a lot of selling on E-bay. I wonder where those items are coming from:? read more

hired Brie's for a moving sale.. crew worked hard to get house ready. little did I know that is so they can charge more against the profits. actual sale was not well attended as she promised it would be. also had thing stolen while they where watching my stuff.. they said not their problem call my insurance co. finally they sold a major item for the wrong price and told me again too bad not their problem, I thought that's why I hired proffessionals to get things sold properly.. would not recommend unless you have no problem loosing money. also they don't pay or give you a list of sold items fro 15 business days three weeks.no not hire this co. no Brie i did not write a review and then call you. i called three days ago and got no response . so lie number one. also item was marked as a sports net and for sale at $200 or more 75% would have been $50 so second lie. as a busness owner you should just admit a mistake was made instead you continue to lie. seem like you always have a excuse not to return calls. we moved our office bla bla bla read more

If I could mark them As zero, I would!! Been going to estate sales for years and by far they are the worst. We went to their sale coz it was 5 min away from where we were at. Their prices are prices for brand new items. At most it's usually maybe 10% less. For a worn and used plastic laundry hamper, was 3$. It's being sold at 25% on the 3rd day. And this item I was getting was zip locked and marked, when I was paying, was told that the price was wrong and someone made a mistake. Why would it be bagged and priced and then won't be sold as is??? No one even apologized for their mistake, the cashier and the other lady. And when I was checking this bed sheet for size, stains or holes, I was asked if I was gonna buy it, with a tone that is very suspicious towards me. Very unpleasant and rude people. read more

Went to the first day of an estate sale by Brie's. I was #1 and my son was #2 in line (he is 36). Very excited because they listed several trade stimulators and art deco bookends. I had 7 items on my list to pick up if the price was fair. After entering, I could only find 2 of the 7 items (which were priced close to full retail). When I asked where everything was they told me those items were pulled. I told the gentleman I was on the website at 6pm Wed night and they were showing, and he said that the owners pulled a lot of items at midnight - and I should have checked the site the morning of the estate. Well I had driven down from Milwaukee - 3 hours round trip plus cost of tolls. What a waste of time and money! After seeing the prices on the items that were there, not sure if I could have purchased anything anyway. We will not include Brie's on our list of estate sales anymore. I guess I should have known something was up when I arrived and there was only a handful of people waiting to get in. read more

I've been to a number of estate sales managed by Brie's Estate Sales and for the most part, have had a decent experience (i.e. fair negotiation, helpful in answering questions, decent setup, etc.) However, this past week we attended an estate sale managed by Brie's and were absolutely disgusted and flat out appalled at how it was managed. Firstly, the management of their signup line system is very poorly run. I understand this is a new way of doing things but be consistent if you're asking customers to abide by rules, you should then too. Secondly, we understood this was a "higher-end sale" but let's be real, these are still "used items," price them as such. Many customers were talking about how the items in this home were priced. We were even cross-checking the prices on google and found them to be priced the exact same or slightly less than buying brand new, so why would we pay the same price for a used item? Thirdly, the staff was so rude and aggressive towards customers, if someone asked about a price, wanted to negotiate (which has been allowed at many of your estate sales recently), or if an item was for sale they'd basically bite off your tongue with their response. The checkout line was backed up and the woman running the checkout was yelling at customers and even yelled at her own teammate when she asked her a question. When we were getting ready to checkout we simply asked for a $16 discount based on the bundle of items we were purchasing. We asked for this small discount because we had witnessed another member of Brie's Estate Sale team offer a $47 discount to another customer in the backyard. When I asked this question I was greeted with 4 members of their staff jumping all over me in front of other customers for asking for such a discount. I calmly explained to them what we had witnessed (another customer receiving a discount at the same sale minutes ago) and how we've come to many of their sales and have never had a problem with some basic negotiating. I was approached by a woman very closely who was very confrontational asking me who I saw give the discount she called her staff into the room and was yelling and pointing at each of them, saying, "did you give a discount? No, didn't think so, tell me who you saw do this." Now, why would anyone at that moment want to answer someone who is speaking to them that way? I have never left a review on a business, positive OR negative, but was compelled to do so following my interactions with Brie's. As is true with many businesses, all was good until we signed the contract. Once that was done, we were put on the "pay no mind" list. We were at their mercy at that point. They would give us OUR money when they were good and ready (29 days in this case). The first guy who came out assured us that we had "real treasures" and would have a very successful, mutually beneficial sale. He was well-versed on antiques and collectables, which made me feel better, as the sale contained a lot of unique, expensive antiques. Well, the guy who was knowledgeable on pricing those items was on vacation when my sale rolled around and 3 workers showed up for set up who priced items SO poorly it was embarrassing. For example, they had a TJ Maxx decorative bowl priced at $280 and a Gucci belt buckle at $8. I had requested guests to be offered booties (which we provided since Brie's said people wouldn't use them due to Covid?) OR to post signs to remove shoes OR to use the plastic runners (once again, provided by us) since the house had white carpeting. They did not do any of these things and, as a result, the carpet is severely damaged. Melinda told me "it's in the contract that we're not responsible". Again, once we signed on the dotted line, our satisfaction was not important anymore. When the sale was over, and I was left with a houseful of stuff, I was asked if I wanted "Bob" to come in and clear everything out for me. Do you know what that means? Bob and Brie's are going to get 80% of my sellable items to resell on their own! No thank you! It took 1 month to get ANY information regarding our results. Questions about particular items were ignored, emails went unanswered and concerns were ignored. Bottom line, I finally got my check (which was about 1/4 of the estimate I was given ahead of time and am done with this very unprofessional company.
