This is an absolute gem in the KOA system, and easy to see why it's won so many awards. Park was nice and quiet despite being near the freeway and train tracks. Our spot lacked shade, but the owners are working on it. Spots were paved and level, and utilities easy to access. Bathrooms did not have full ADA accommodations, but the owners are working on it. Very cute camp store, reasonable prices on propane, and cannot bear the free pancakes. The ice cream social looks good, and the free cookies at check in were a plus. Pool was good too, and constantly maintained. Other KOA parks should look at how this one is run, and replicate it.

They are currently doing upgrades to the campground but it does not interfere with any of the sites your camping in. WiFi is actually pretty fast which is not often for campgrounds. The office staff is very on top of things and extremely helpful. The sites are gravel but level for the most part. We had a pull through and the sites near us were also pull throughs. Close to stores and the view was pretty nice as well! We have a 36' rv and had no problems parking or getting out.

    Having fun at the KOA

This KOA is beautifully maintained. The sites are generous with old fashion wooden swings, gas grills and fire rings at each site. The staff are friendly and extremely helpful. The restrooms were spotless. I highly recommend this stop

Can we say, dump? Complete with flies...

KOA should be ashamed to put their name on this campground. The campsites are in a poor state with divots everywhere. The ground is uneven and RVs are expected to double up in their spaces. Good luck turning an RV of any size on these roads. The rules were emphasized over and over. Bathrooms are a health hazards in the making. Filth everywhere, mold and dated design. They supposedly have an ice cream social but who would want to eat ice cream with all these flies? Do yourself a favor and bypass Brigham City/Perry KOA.

The site was long and large pull through.

I've been to the California State Railroad Museum in Sacramento and seen the start of the "west" end of this railroad and while I'm just a passive railroad fan, visiting Promontory was one of those places that is worth seeing if only once. I missed the anniversary of the railroad's completion by a couple of weeks (May 10) but at least I got to see it in the same month. It took about an hour and a half to get here from Salt Lake City and my GPS had no trouble getting a signal and leading me here and back to the city. Once you get off I-15 and head towards Corinne there are a lot of signs pointing you in the right direction. You pay the entry fee at the visitor's center and it only cost $10 for a single person. The website says entry fees are paid by credit card only but the gift shop takes both card and cash. There isn't much to do in this particular area - you can look around the visitor's center at the exhibits, browse the gift shop, and watch the locomotives roll in. During the summer season the Jupiter and the No. 119 pull in at 10am and 10:30am respectively and a park ranger gives a little bit of information about the site and the railroad's historical significance. There are also volunteers in period-specific attire to guide visitors and take pictures. The trains get moved in the afternoon but most of the visitors cleared out by 11am. Getting a picture of the marker where the last rail tie was laid to complete the railroad was pretty much my reason for visiting the site. Later in the day I went a few miles east to the Big Fill Trail. This is a walking trail that leads to a section of land where the transcontinental railroad once crossed over a ravine. It was bypassed in the early 1900s and then the remaining pieces of the railroad were cannibalized for raw materials during WWII. You can walk across Big Fill and it's hard to believe that a railroad use to be here, without the signs it just looks like a small hill. Walking across a piece of history was interesting. The views of the valley were nice and along the southern part of the trail loop is a small rock shelter (looks like a little cave) to stop and rest for a few minutes. The trail was about a mile and a half and took me a little less than an hour to hike but I didn't stop to linger for too long at any specific point, otherwise I might have been here for an hour and a half or longer. I was the only visitor at the time so it was nice to have the place to myself for a little while. Would I visit the park again? Not as my primary destination, but I would try to stop by if I happened to be in the area again. I didn't go on the west side audio tour because it wasn't open yet and I skipped the east side audio tour because I was running out of time and needed to get back to SLC. Both tours are accessible by vehicle and you can download a guide to hear about points of interest as you drive through the park.

Although the original Jupiter and No. 119 locomotives were scrapped long ago, the replicas built in the 1970s are impressive. The replica locomotives are brightly painted, beautifully detailed, and a highlight of the park. The museum's exhibits do a great job explaining the engineering challenges, cultural impact, and enormous effort involved in connecting the United States by railroad. When you stand outside in this remote, rugged landscape, it underscores how difficult building this railroad must have been. Overall, Golden Spike National Historical Park is an educational and memorable stop for history enthusiasts, families, or anyone exploring northern Utah.

Doesn't hurt to ask, right? So I called and said we were thinking about reserving a night there, but wanted to check if they had any available places for short-term storage afterwards, as we would be staying elsewhere for the next 3 nights. Woman on phone, very rudely: "Do you mean you don't want to stay here with us at all but you want to store your trailer here?" Me: "No" (repeated the same info as before). Woman, very curtly: "So we need to get you registered for a night then." Me, a little more warily: "Well we're considering it, but I just wanted to check about any available storage options you may have." Woman: "No, if you pay for a site, then you can store it here." Clearly, just asking a simple yes or no question was very harmful (to them) and their rude and hurtful reaction means that they are not interested in our business at all. A simple, kind, " No, I'm sorry we don't offer that" would have been lovely. Management may want to speak to the people who answer the phone, and re-teach what respectful interactions look like.
