I feel that she takes the time to listen to me, without judgement, and is always an advocate for my mental clarity in any given situation. She isn't afraid to let me know when I'm not acting in my own best interest, since I tend to put other's needs ahead of my own. She is always fully in my corner, helping me listen to and align with my higher self in difficult family or work situations that come up. I like that she isn't a young kid right out of college, because she has enough counseling experience to know each person is different. She has enough life experience to get that the effects of, and solutions to, real life problems can be much more challenging than they first appear to be. I have come to trust her input, as she reflects my experiences back to me in a gentle, calm way. She has enough experience and wisdom to know that every situation is different, and that one "tell me how you feel today" approach doesn't fit all situations. My daughter has been involved in counseling for much of her young life, and for the last several years, utilizing the more intense and focused services the Central Coast has to offer-with little success. Somewhat exasperated with the process and cynical to the list of promises I perceived as a sales pitch, I found myself far more direct then I usually am, with pointed questions and detailed concerns. I was impressed with the professional attitude maintained throughout my questioning and surprisingly impressed with the answers. They have kept every promise they made to us during that initial interview. The staff are invested in each of the clients, and groups are kept small to ensure everyone gets individual time. The activities are varied, age appropriate, and something a teenager would actually be interested in. Administration has gone above and beyond to work with insurance to ensure my daughter leaves when she is ready not just when the money runs out.

So I went. Why not? So, you know those nagging thoughts of self-doubt, fear, self-deprecation? Well, I wanted to get rid of some of them and see if Dr. Cox's methods worked for me. On her website she touts...Mind Body Tools for a Successful and Happy Life. In our session, we spent an hour talking about what I call past programming. Incidents in childhood that have an impact on how we approach life. In that hour the visceral, anxiety ridden feelings I had around fear of failure went from a 9 down to a 3 and then eventually complete calm. I'll definitely being going back to see Dr. Cox. Those nagging thoughts you know...they never quite all go away. But these sessions are surely going to keep them quiet for a while.
