From day one, our family felt welcomed and supported by Sakina and her colleagues and the parents at the school. Our daughter is thriving and we see every day how this loving community has contributed to her growth and development. The school has two beautiful classrooms with large glass windows/doors and a serene courtyard. One parent on Yelp commented about uneven pavement and I'm not sure I understand that. The space is perfectly safe (as well as clean and beautiful) for children to run around--I certainly wouldn't have sent my 2-year-old daughter to the school if I had any concerns. The teachers are extremely engaged and loving and I've watched them on a daily basis help kids to learn how to communicate and resolve conflict. Overall, the school is an absolute gem and I am so glad that we became part of this wonderful community. This is an absolutely wonderful preschool. My daughter started at age 3 and had a magical two years there. We started right as the world emerged from the pandemic, and Sakina provided a warm, welcoming, and safe environment. What an absolute gem of a Montessori school - we couldn't be more thrilled about our experience here. Both our children went here for 2 years each, and absolutely thrived. It is an adorable setting - a small two classroom building with a large outdoor play space (garden and playground). Every teacher was so kind, caring and engaged. They really worked with the kids to get a jump start on Kinder lessons and structure. We love the Montessori method of letting the children choose their work, and really pursue their own interests, while also being encouraged to try new things. We've had a wonderful experience with our son who attended for roughly two years. Sakina, Vanessa Michelle and Romaline are all wonderful and loving teachers. The vibe is casual but when it comes to school work it's a bit more focused - we saw our son learn a lot of skills we probably wouldn't see at other schools that are play based. I love Bright Montessori! My wife is a teacher and we searched for a preschool where our children could play in a loving, supportive environment and also learn real academics. Bright had both, and was the most academically focused school of all that we surveyed. Our daughter attended from age 2.5 to 5.5 and our son attended from age 2 to 4, and by the time they graduated they were both reading! And this is common for kids at Bright; they use the Montessori method to gently teach kids phonics and reading and basic math concepts like counting. And it really works, not just for our kids but for all the kids in their class! I recommend Bright to any parents I meet who are looking for a preschool. read more

The stress of transitioning your child from one school to another can be very unsettling. When we moved to Eagle Rock I called almost all preschools in the area and didn't feel at ease until I spoke to Ms. Sakina at Bright. We've loved Bright Montessori and Ms. Sakina since our first visit. Now our 3 and 1/2 year old son loves it more than us. He misses school on the weekend and never wants to leave when we pick him up. Ms. Sakina is most knowledgeable in her field. It is evident that she is experienced in her background of early childhood development and, more importantly, that she truly cares about each child and puts them first. The Montessori style is fantastic in guiding children towards independence and creating self motivated learners. The school has (or at least did pre-Corona) extra-curricular options, including karate, yoga and dance. The school has wonderful teachers and a very warm environment. Ms. Sakina creates a community feel with parent mixers, Halloween parades, potlucks, Christmas show, field trips etc. We would highly recommend this school to anyone looking for a safe and engaging learning experience for their child. read more

My husband and I went preschool "shopping" pretty early, basically once our daughter was born, understanding how competitive it is to get your toddler into a preschool in LA. We visited about a dozen preschools, mostly Montessori, and we were blown away by how nurturing and joyful the learning environment is at Bright Montessori. I've worked in education my entire career and ages 0-5 is such an important time for cognitive and social development, so I had really high standards. Without a doubt, the school leader, Sakina, is one of the best in her field. Our daughter started at Bright in January and we saw immediate positive results in her social skills. Her language blossomed, she became more confident doing things all by herself, she even started showing us that she wanted to learn to use the potty (happy to say she is now potty trained). She comes home talking about her new little friends and also says "Ms. Sakina is my best friend." A few months into our time at Bright, Safer at Home hit and we were quarantined (like everyone) for the last few months. During that time, our daughter regressed quite a bit. I mean, I even regressed, lol. But Sakina kept school running via Zoom everyday for 1-2 hours and remained communicative, nurturing, and empathetic to the situation we were all going through. It was honestly so amazing to have a little bit of support during those unstructured days. Bright opened back up last week and our daughter is attending again. They've put in extra cleanliness precautions and a few new processes like morning temperature checks and social distance lunches. But I'm happy to say my daughter is back to her confident and silly self. It's been really emotional for me to see how much she missed school: the structure, the teachers, the songs, the make believe, even the playground and tire swing. I've told all my mom friends about this school. I cannot recommend it highly enough. My advice: put your application in right now! When I dropped my daughter off at Bright for her first day at the preschool she was 2. I will never forget that day: She stood in the playground and cried for me as I walked off. My heart broke. I will also never forget what happened next: A little girl who was older (and later became her friend) came over to comfort her, offering her a ball to play with and some water. Then Mrs. Shirley scooped my daughter up and held her until she calmed down. This is a loving school. On the outside, it is a simple school. Some may say the playground is sparse. But it is what's inside that counts. I do not mean pretty interior designs. I mean what is inside of the hearts of the staff, students and families who come together here. I would choose this school again over any "elite" (or more expensive) Montessori in neighboring areas. Here is why: Mrs. Sakina, the principal, is its anchor and guiding light. She is totally devoted to the school and the students, putting on events, field trips, parties, festivals. She is warm and giving and everything you want in a school leader. I trust the teachers. Mrs. Shirley, Mrs. Michelle, and Mrs. Sakina in particular have watched my daughter grow up (she is now 4). (Mrs. Ani is newer, and she's wonderful too). They have all helped her become the confident, spirited child she now is. My daughter adores them. These teachers foster independence, free will, creativity, and fun. They also have to help a couple dozen kids use the potty, wash their hands, eat their food, nap, learn, and play peacefully each day. It is a thankless job. So I thank them publicly here. This is not the kind of school where parents get stressed out because we may have forgotten to bring an extra pair of clothes, or we came too school late, or we had to switch our schedule because of a vacation. Mrs. Sakina will work with you, and the teachers work it out without making you feel like a parent who is not on top of her game! My daughter also enrolled in karate and dance classes at the school (it offers soccer too). She has learned how to sing and count in Chinese (thanks to Mrs. Shirley), and Spanish (thanks to Mrs. Michelle) and she also has learned about Armenian and Indian culture (thanks to Mrs. Ani and Mrs. Sakina). Her classmates have taught her about Hawaii, Pakistan, Taiwan, and beyond. This is truly a culturally diverse school, which is refreshing in comparison to some neighboring preschools. My daughter also loves the vast array of excellent Montessori learning tools and activities: counting beads, insect games, art supplies, shapes, letters, puzzles and much more. The school keeps kids active, rotating from different activities constantly. It is affordable, flexible, safe and most of all it is the kind of place where the teachers know each child personally--not just their names, but their favorite songs, and colors, and hobbies. You might drive past this school and not even pay attention. You might browse the local preschools on your neighborhood Facebook pages and not even come across this one. It's not pushed by moms clubs and it has little to no advertising. But it is a precious little place indeed, and those of us with kids there also know how fortunate we are to have discovered it. read more

When I think of Bright Montessori four words come to my mind: community, generosity, devotion, and diversity. Our family loves Bright Montessori! It has become such a vital part of our daughter and son's life. Bright is not only preparing them as students, but influencing and shaping the person they will one day become. Let me start out with the first word that describes Bright: community. Since enrolling my children, Bright has been like a second community to our family - from attending school concerts (Christmas and end of year) and activities (Halloween parade, Mother's day breakfast), to going on field trips (Discovery cube, Strawberry picking, Little India), and engaging in school potlucks and celebration (Thanksgiving, Christmas, and graduation). Bright has shown it is committed to not only being a school but a place where the child and family can call community. Second: generosity. Ms. Sakina is a very generous and warm director. I believe directors sets the tone for the school they are running. Simply by Ms. Sakina's nature, the school is unsurprisingly generous and warm. I remember when I toured Bright Montessori with my daughter, the attending children were very interested in getting to know her. They asked her for her name, they asked her if she was coming to the school, one child was eating a snack and asked her if she wanted some of his cheerios. The kids were warm and welcoming and I knew that Bright was the place she needed to attend. The children and teachers at Bright help each other learn and grown, and I can see that the children there work hard and take great pride in being kind and generous to one another. Third: devotion. Bright is extremely devoted to the children's growth and development. Ms. Sakina has two parent-teacher conferences within the school year. These conferences have been so important in communicating to us our son's and daughter's strength and weaknesses and what action plan to take in order to make sure they continues to thrive. The parent-teacher spreadsheet report that Ms. Sakina gives us is very detailed and the amount of work that goes into making such a report shows her devotion to the students. Additionally, any concerns that I have risen with Ms. Sakina, she has been very responsive in working out a solution. Her commitment and communication style shows the devotion she has for the children and the school. Fourth: diversity. I find myself being extremely proud that my children attend a very diverse preschool. So many of our friends in Eagle Rock and the surrounding areas want to find the "prettiest" looking school but often the student body looks fairly homogenous. What I love about Bright is the different ethnicities and cultural backgrounds. Children learn to embrace other cultures and take pride in their own. Not only is the student body diverse but Bright Montessori has shown their commitment to diversity by having cultural week, celebrating other cultural holidays, and introducing children to different ethnic foods. Bright has been a beacon for diversity. There are plenty more wonderful and amazing things about Bright Montessori. Community, generosity, devotion and diversity have been most prominent to me. Bright has been such an integral part of my children's growth. It is such a joy to have a place where little children learn to become loving and warm people. read more

My son has been attending Bright Montessori for over 2 years, and I am extremely happy we chose Bright. I did extensive research on preschools in the Glendale/Pasadena/Los Feliz/Silverlake area. What impressed me the most about Bright was the kindness and attentiveness of the school's director, Ms. Sakina. The children adore her and rightly so; Ms. Sakina is patient, compassionate, highly focused on learning and development but at each child's pace. I also thought the Montessori method was best for my son who is intelligent but hyperactive. I thought he would benefit from being in a flexible environment, and it turns out that Bright has been a perfect fit. His behavior has greatly improved since attending Bright. He can sit still in groups, listen to his teachers, follow instructions, and while he still needs to focus more on reading/writing, Ms. Sakina has been patiently helping him develop these skills. It's one reason why we've chosen to keep our son at Bright rather than send him to TK next year. The school's grounds may be humble but I've toured schools with wonderful aesthetics, LEED design, fancy classrooms--we even got into a school we were waitlisted on about a year ago which had everything including a security guard in the parking lot to make sure you didn't go over the 8MPH speed limit. But that school had inferior academics and care; it lacked the individual attention and genuine focus that Ms. Sakina and all the teachers give each child. Bright has everything my son needs--three classrooms full of learning and fun, a huge gymnasium, extracurricular classes like soccer, karate and dance which my son attends, a large outdoor play area, tricycles to ride on, a covered picnic area. It is affordable, it's hours are great for our schedule, it's diverse, the class size overall is relatively small (around 25 children) which I really like, the parents are nice, there are parties nearly every week, and best of all the children are all sweet, happy, and well adjusted. We absolutely love Bright and all its teachers. Over the past 2 years we have never had a bad experience. My husband and I can personally attest that along with Ms. Sakina, Ms. Michelle and all the other teachers are wonderful, caring, and kind women who we gladly entrust our son to. We highly recommend Bright and encourage you to visit the school and see if it's a good fit for you and your child. read more

Bright Montessori truly is a gem. We noticed a profound change in our son - quickly. Honestly, my husband and I remarked almost immediately how grown up, polite, helpful and evolved he had become. Yes, we're only several months in, but we think it's wonderful. A little backstory, my son is three and had just completed a year of preschool at a non-Montessori, well-established school in Eagle Rock. But the minute I saw Bright, I knew it was the place for him. The emphasis on calm, focus, and learning has changed his whole demeanor and perspective. He is more curious and far less interested in "testing" at home. We attribute much of this to being with older students and, of course, the wonderful teachers at Bright. Ms. Sakina is attentive without fail, always present and positive and wonderful to the kids. It's clear they love her, and the only word I can think of to describe the lovely kids there is "bright." My daughter has been attending Bright Montessori for the past 14 months and I am very pleased with my decision in choosing this preschool over the rest. At the beginning, my daughter followed Mrs. Sakina (the director & teacher) everywhere , she was literally her shadow for about 3 weeks! All she cared for was to feel safe and secure and Mrs. Sakina made her feel safe so I am forever thankful to Mrs. Sakina ! What I like about the preschool is the following: 1- When it's learning time, the kids are not separated by age group, which is a great environment if you ask me! Older kids practice being patient and kind to their younger classmates and the younger kids are exposed to the same techniques/knowledge offered to the older ones. 2- My daughter's good manners and gentle heart were never intact till this date. The teachers really focus on the importance of being kind to one another. I know my daughter is much loved by her teachers and her classmates. 3- I love the summer school program that the school offers of course during summer. There is a weekly theme whereby kids are able to learn about a specific topic every week and on Friday's usually they either have a water fun day or some other cool event such as petting zoo day ( they actually brought a horse and some bunnies and chicks for the kids to pet one time and another time hey got reptiles). It is important to mention that the school celebrates all the holidays and they kinda encourage families to come together and break bread on certain holidays such as thanksgiving. I honestly like the parents, they all are warm and welcoming. 4- My daughter is learning her ABC's , 123's, tracing, coloring, painting , and learning some general knowledge. It feels good to know that you are exposing your kid to such things and preparing him/her to the kindergarten phase. 5- There's a biannual parent teacher conference held between every child's parents and Mrs. Sakina during which the progress of each child is thoroughly discussed. My son came here for 2016-2017. He loved it as did I. The staff is professional and very welcoming. Ms.Sakina is a wonderful and patient individual with the students. Ms.Michelle has been there for several years and is very friendly. Along with Ms.Ani and Ms.Shirley they really take care of our kids. I'm glad my son and I had a wonderful experience. I'm also a teacher for secondary grade level and with confidence I can say that these people not only educate at grade level capacity and beyond but they also teach social and emotional learning. Both my daughters attend Bright Montessori and I am one satisfied parent, so here I am raving about the school! My 5 year old daughter has been doing to the school for more than 3 yrs and will graduate this June. My younger has been there for 10 months now. I am so pleased with all the teachers and the positive environment that my kids are growing up in. The kids just finished their spring break, and all they talked about throughout the break was about school, teachers and their friends at school. I like it that each kid is given individual attention and allowed to grow at their own pace. They come home learning something new everyday! And whenever I have questions, the teachers are very approachable and are more than willing to share their experience.Also, there have been one or two occasion when I have missed sending a sweater or a blanket, but they have taken care of that too without giving me a hard time! The school has a lot of fun activities like field trips, birthday parties, cultural events where the kids experience the food and culture of different countries. Parents are encouraged to participate but it is not compulsory, it's really whenever you can make it for those events. The school also has extra classes like karate, soccer & dance for an added fee. My kids have been telling me words in Spanish, Chinese, Armenian and Hindi! It amazes me how much they learn there besides the daily curriculum. And they have developed a love for reading, and my 5 year old loves to read to my 2 year old everyday. They always take a book along when we go on road trips and spend time reading aloud. The summer program they have is really fun, and the kids have a wonderful time there. Last year they had a cultural month and each week they focused on different countries. The school has a huge outdoor area which other schools in Glendale (those that I have toured) probably don't. The kids get enough outdoor play and sun. We don't need to worry about having to take them out to the playground when they come home. And oh yes, I was so happy when I walked in one day and saw my 5 year old cycling without trainer wheels! I did not have the time to start that yet, but she was already learning it by herself there under the watchful eye of the teachers. The school encourages you to start potty training early (at 2), and works with you on that. Within a month of joining my 2 year old had a big difference in her behavior. Suddenly it was more structured, she was able to follow instructions and wanted to do homework! lol! At home after her meals, she would wipe the table with a napkin and put the plate back in the sink. It is amazing, coz I didn't have to teach her all that! In a lil over the 3 years there, there are just too many great things to mention but I thought I will just name a few! My daughter attended Bright from the moment she turned 2 until she was ready for Kindergarten. This is the perfect school. There are nurturing teachers (who have been working there for years - so the staff must be happy!), kind children from kind families, and a brilliant director. If you are looking for frills and gimmicks, this is not the place for you. But if you seek a calm, loving and peaceful atmosphere, where children focus on learning academics (using Montessori's methods) and learning to be a member of a community, then Bright Montessori is it. First of all, my son only attended a few weeks of class as I was able to eventually locate a closer school to home. During the few weeks, I noticed a few strengths and weaknesses: First of all, the director is the exact type of a loving educator. She is very sweet and professional. The kids seem to love her very much. The school has a laid-back environment, which is positive for me. The reasons that made me decide to switch are the following: The playground area is in an area where there's no shade and the pavement is uneven. I think that's not ideal for little ones to be running around. One time I dropped off my son and on the classroom there's a child screaming for his mom, trying to open the door. No teacher was there to comfort him. When the teacher saw me, she just said, "Oh it's first day." While the main teachers seem nice and kind, I wasn't too fond of the teacher they had for after school, which is later in the afternoon until closing. One time I walked in and the teacher was lying on the floor resting while the kids were around her doing their own things. That's unacceptable. Again these are observations from the experience I had in the few weeks my son was there. I hope it helps parents assess the school. read more

I have had both of my kids at Bright Montessori and would do it all over again. I originally had my daughter at another daycare before coming to Bright. The experience at both daycares have been night and day. My regret was having not found Bright sooner than we did. There was no question I would also be putting my 2nd child through Bright as well (we were there a total of about 6 years). On our initial visit of Bright, we were blown away by how outgoing, talkative and welcoming the other children were of our daughter as we were touring the facility. Sakina the Director, is incredibly caring and acts in each child's best interest. She takes an active position in ensuring the kids are exposed to different cultures, languages, extra-curricular activities and learning activities/work. My kids are both on the shy side, and the teachers and environment that Bright offers helped them to overcome that. Bright does a great job in preparing the kids for the next steps in their education. By Kindergarten, I knew the kids were well prepared for the transition to a new school and had the foundation to understand the learning materials they'd be working on along with the social skills needed for the new environment. The teachers really care about the children and parents are kept up-to-date with their child's progress via parent conferences and are offered updates as asked at any time. The teachers did a great job in not only helping each of my kids reach important milestones, but exceed them and encouraged an environment that has helped empower my kids to be independent thinkers. Bright offered exactly what we were looking for when deciding which daycare to go with - safety, caring teachers, learned skills/progress, and flexibility. Maybe I was a bit lazy/selfish to keep quiet about Bright while son was there. Maybe it's just better to sound off after graduation. In any case, Bright Montessori needs to drop its hidden gem status in the Eagle Rock/Glendale/Pasadena area. Truth is, our son was enrolled at Bright and a popular ER area school in first summer but by season end, Bright won as the only school for its flexibility and a much happier, lighter vibe. The separation took my son about a month to get used to; the teachers were absolutely great about helping him transition. Before long, he refused to to leave at pick-up time and I don't exaggerate when I say that "struggle" lasted 3.5 years. For me, this small nuisance was the clearest sign that he was in the right place. Bright gained many students while we were there but class size was never too large. Their teachers' kindness and nurturing behavior cannot be overstated. Overall, their program has active, happy, and engaging kids. Birthday parties that usu involve a pinata and a jumper were a constant. These folks are serious with other parties too! My son walks away a VERY sweet, confident, and socially adept kid- thanks to the hard work of their sweet and patient teachers. read more

Bright Montessori is a wonderful school and it is an environment where all of the teachers work together to create an environment conducive to learning. I have sent my two sons here and they each spent three years (age 2-5) attending Bright Montessori. My youngest just graduated and my oldest son has continued to thrive at his elementary school where he will be entering the third grade. During the six years my wife and I have sent our kids here, they have both thrived and excelled. By the time they both graduated they were able to read books! This ability to read by the time my oldest reached kindergarten only served him well as he continued to thrive in other subject areas at his elementary school. Ms. Sakina, the director of the school, has done a wonderful job in the selection of teachers she has working for her including Ms. Michelle, Ms. Shirley and others who have worked with our kids over the years. I have never had witnessed or had any of my kids communicate with me anything negative about their experience at the school. The teachers are all very patient with ALL of the children. Ms. Sakina's use of the Montessori method of teaching young children challenges the children to learn topics ranging from math to geography to cultural diversity in a way that is systematic and fun for the children. In the past six years, Ms. Sakina and all of the teachers have always given me feedback on my son's progress throughout the year. As a parent, this experience is different than other preschools in that there are always open houses and parent teacher meetings to discuss and showcase how the children are doing while they are in their care. This is not a school where children are left to their own devices. They are all taught about how to treat each other appropriately in the classroom and the playground. The cost of sending your child to Bright Montessori may be higher than other schools that are out there, but trust me when I tell you that it is worth it! This is not a school where the kids just play and color all day. This is a school where the children are actively learning. Material is presented in a way that is appropriate and engaging for their age. I have seen a review that questioned the safety of the playground. The playground is safe for all of the children and there is always someone there watching the kids. You will not find a playground that is perfect where no one can get hurt. Part of growing up is sometimes falling and getting a few scrapes. The previous review made it sound like the school was unsafe. This is far from the truth. The school and environment are safe for kids and I welcome anyone to visit the school and speak with the director Ms. Sakina in person rather than base your opinion on one disgruntled review. My wife and I will always be indebted to Ms. Sakina and the teachers for caring for and educating our sons. They have received a foundation that will serve them well as they get older. read more
