It's hard to believe our days as a Delaney family are coming to an end. We have sent two children up through Delaney (10 and 4), and our 4-year-old will be starting TK in the fall. Where to begin to describe how much we adore this school? Let's start with the location: right in the middle of central Hollywood but somehow tucked away and quiet. Drop off/pick up is a breeze. Walking in, the first thing you notice is the huge organic garden where the kiddos learn about seeds and plants. Our little one loves to pick a strawberry or two when they are in bloom. The kids have multiple, age-appropriate play spaces on the campus. There is a SECOND garden tucked away in the back with a chicken coop. Inside, the kids have different learning areas (books, costumes, playhouses, etc.) for both structured and unstructured play. Each week the kids do some learning and craft-oriented project. Our 4-year-old has learned basic reading skills surprisingly fast at Delaney. They do yoga and music as well. Private Instagram groups for each class provide an easy way to get photos and videos of your kiddo throughout the week. Our FAVORITE thing about Delaney is probably the seasonal performances they put on for the parents in the gym. These are often the highlights of our year, honestly. At some point, Yelp is going to cut me off from reviewing this place, I'm sure of it. But I just had a whole moral dilemma about putting my kid in UTK (free public school) vs. keeping him at Delaney and it took me all of one classroom visitation and 12 hours to determine that the only way we're leaving Delaney is when they drag us out. Ok, actually, when my son graduates. Next year. I already know I'm going to cry. Here they have SPACE. Multiple spaces, even. Play structure, outdoor area, sandbox, garden, classroom, theater. It feels like a luxury compared to other places, yes. And three teachers to every classroom? What an abundance! The director of this school knows what's going on with every child, and greets them every day. They learn through playing, through art. The teachers are top-notch, and despite dealing with toddlers all day, never seem frazzled (how?). I know it's not free, but it's worth it. Like that Grey's Anatomy episode, I urge you: Pick Delaney. I do not recommend this daycare at all. We had to take my daughter out of here mid month because I didn't trust the "nannies" were going to provide good nurturing care for her. Fist of all, the caregivers here are by no means teachers they all can be the nanny you can hired just to take care of your kids at home. The nanny who was mainly responsible for my daughter's room would paint my 3 year old as the "bad" kid in the class. I told her all kids at that age probably behave like that, and she responded to me " not like your daughter ". It was so bad my daughter every morning would wake up saying she didn't want to go to school, she also had mentioned that same nannie would told her to "close her eyes" during nap time even though Joni (the director) had told us they never force kids to nap if they don't want to. Towards the end the nannies started avoiding me just because I had brought these issues to the Director's attention. My husband and I started to feel we couldn't trust leaving our daughter here. We pulled her out mid month and we requested Joni to please reimburse us the half of the month. She said they usually don't do that but that this time around they would. It has been 2 months and we have not received back any reimbursement. My daughter now goes to a school where she's actually learning and super happy, she's never said she doesn't want to go to school. She feels happy and safe to go there , she's thriving and every morning all the kids yell out her name happy to see her. Her teacher always greets her with a hug and so much care. I have never heard a complaint from the teacher or the Principal of her misbehaving. We are very grateful we have found this school if you are interested send me a message to share the school information. Again if you really want to give excellent care to your child I would skip Delaney Hollywood you can spend that money if you keep searching on a better real school. Otherwise just hire a nanny to take care of your child at home. read more

My son started in the Little Honeybees Class at 18mo. I was scared, he was scared - we both got past that quickly thanks to the wonderful teachers, their approach to learning, and the safe space they provide. A year later he's having the time of his life while learning Spanish, doing yoga, dancing and creating art, and has shaped solid relationships with his classmates and teachers. Kid #2 is joining in January 2021. DWFAP will be a big and important part of our foreseeable future and I highly recommend checking them out! read more

We moved to the Hollywood and found this little gem, and even after we moved out of the way, we have decided to send our son here because this is a wonderful school with lovely staff. The education, the teachers, the facility, the events & performances, and the community it creates right in the heart of Hollywood. The Director (Joni) is one of the most supporting individuals I've ever met. Her plate is full and yet she always finds time to comfort parents when needed, to be stern and direct with children in a loving way, and constantly creates a beautiful and loving environment for children to grow and explore and expand in while they learn. We love this school so much! Our son has grown so much since starting here at 2 years old (now he is 4). He started out as very shy, and now he has tons of friends and loves going to school. He has learned so much. Since being at the school, he knows his ABCs, can count to 100 (and 10 in Spanish), knows his shapes, knows a few yoga moves, loves books, singing and dancing. We feel so lucky to have found this school. Namely, the amazing toddler program that our daughter joined at 18 months in September. She loves going to school, and is happy every day asking if it's a 'school day'. The staff is so thoughtful towards the parents. We have found that the teachers are very accommodating to each individual child and communicate in a way that best suits each family. We are so grateful to have found Joni and DWFAP. We took a tour of this preschool last month after hearing some good recommendations from our friends who sent their children there in past. We were not very pleased. Why the 2 stars you ask? Here is what we did not like: 1. Pushy director (apparently she is new) and her goal was to create anxiety by saying that only 1 spot was left. She wanted us to sign up on the spot and pay non refundable fees (given that we were looking for enrollment about 1 year from now). 2. We only got a tour of the "classroom our daughter would be in", main play area, a garden and multipurpose room... that's it! She did not show us any of the other classrooms ( which I would of liked because eventually our daighter would of been in those classrooms) 3. Too many kids in a classroom... our friends had told us that the teacher-student ratio was small compared to other schools and that was not the case. 4. The school needs some tlc and new toys most of the ones we saw were rundown, old and dirty. We did like the fact that the school and entrance is hidden and away from the street. You don't even know that there is a school behind the fence. We also liked that they offer enrichment classes aside from the main curriculum. My son has only been going here for about a month, but he loves it! We love it too. He's so happy here. Each day is either filled with yoga, gardening, drama, STEM, art, dance, or music. The school has a beautiful urban garden on site that the kids tend to and also learn about seeds and plants. The staff is awesome, and the director is very warm and down to Earth. We sent two kids through Delaney Wright--our second having just graduated a couple of weeks ago--and we feel lucky to have found the preschool. Both of our kids started when they were two. It's a warm, wonderful, environment with an amazing staff, from the teachers to the maintenance workers. The school, founded by the sister of the hip and liberal Episcopalian Reverend of the Church where the school is set, run by a Muslim preschool director (she retired this year), who encouraged my Jewish kids to bring in latkes to their friends on Hanukkah, and taught them about tolerance and art, while readying them for elementary school. We have referred so many friends to the school--all of whom have loved it--and the community we made while there was really unique. We are going to miss this place so much. read more

We absolutely love Delaney Wright Fine Arts Preschool. The principal (Joni), class teachers (Melissa and Deni) and all the staff really show how much they care every day. Our son has been attending Delaney Wright for 10 months since his second birthday. We are very happy that his first school experience is so wonderful. His teachers, Ms. Dalia and Ms. Lidia, are loving, caring, patient, and trustworthy. My son loves them! The school director, Ms. Nasrin, is supportive and easy-going, and she knows every child! Our son just graduated after 2 years at Delaney. We had a wonderful experience. The teachers and staff are really amazing - very nurturing and attentive. The transition from home was hard for our son at times but they were always supportive and gave him a little extra care when he needed it. He also learned and grew so much while he was there, both socially and academically. He is definitely well prepared for Kindergarten and am happy we chose to send him to Delaney. Our son is currently enrolled at Delaney Wright and has been attending for 1.5 years. We started him at age 3, and If I had known then, what I know now, I would have started him immediately at age 2. DW has been so wonderful for our son and for us. As we are local residents of Beachwood Canyon the location is superb for us. The teachers and administrators are excellent! We have truly loved and enjoyed the experience that this school has to offer. The children start the morning with yoga and dance, they learn healthy eating habits through organic gardening class, music, Spanish and so much more. They are encouraged to be creative. The school has been such a wonderful experience. The teachers are all extremely kind, loving and nurturing. Sending your child off to preschool is one of the most difficult challenges a parent faces and this school is excellent at meeting the needs of both the parent and child. They provide a very safe and fun environment. Our son has grown and blossomed and will be more then ready for Kindergarten in all of the development categories. I have sent both of my children to Delaney and I can't sing their praises enough. The teachers are so caring and patient. As a therapist, I'm particularly impressed by the way they handle the few kids that need a little extra attention. It is a play based preschool yet offers just enough structure that both my children picked up their letters, numbers, yoga, a love of art and even a little Spanish. My son is about to transition out to an elementary school and I am very sad. He hits the ground running towards his friends at school the moment i drop him off and doesn't look back. My almost 7 year old daughter begs me to go with me to pick him up from school so she can say hello, and she often says she wishes she could go back to her preschool. This place feels like home to me. And to top it off, the parents I've met through the years here are still some of my best friends, it attracts a very down to earth, easy going, artsy community, unlike snootier preschools in the neighborhood. read more
