What a fun experience here at Emo night Karaoke singing with a live band!! First time here! It's quite a decent space for a live band performance good stage and great lights and good sound! There is a bar in the back. We had to line up outside to get inside at 7pm. It was cold! Once inside there was another line to sign up for songs which we did. We got spots right in front of the stage so had the best view! The songs order are on a lottery and so nobody knows 1) the order of songs not even the band, and when they'll get to sing - they show the next 5 songs on the screen so at least you know if your song is coming up and 2) if you'll even get to sing or not! Luckily the hubs got to sing and so did I (a duet with him) and another friend but our other friend did not get a chance. So fun to sing with a live band with like 250 people rocking out to the songs - like a concert! The band was great and the opening act was a cellist who was called the punk cellist Ian Legge and he was great too. For $25 tickets it was a great show - seems like everyone had a great time! read more

Love this smaller venue! Great location with so many Korean restaurants nearby. Venue sounds best with ear plugs (this is not an insult. It's smaller so need to drown out the noise not related to the music. Also you should wear ear plugs at concerts anyway!). They get artists that I love and they have free drinking water you can access yourself. They also have a good drink menu, but I come for the music. Staff were nice getting everyone in quickly! We were so excited to see our favorite artist but unfortunately the sound was HORRIBLE. We've seen this artist before and he's absolutely amazing, with someone who knows how to do the sound board. Everything but the singer was so deafeningly loud it was distorting, and you could not hear the singer at all. It was super disappointing. I wouldn't go there again unless I heard someone else was running the sound and knows what they're doing. This is a great small venue. I saw a comedy show (Josh Thomas) the other day and years ago I caught the band Rasputina there. I may have seen other things there over the years but it blends together. lol There is no parking, so if you keep a cool head you can try your luck on the street, but the venue suggests using spothero. Which I did and worked rather well (but I will never rent a parking spot if I am going some place by myself like that again).The fact there is no parking is made up for by the fact that there's great dining options both before and after whatever show you might see and it's just a fun neighborhood. Once you get into the venue the space is nice. There are 3 bars two in the front where the entertainment is and one in the back where there are some pool tables. They put out chairs for the comedy show (granted not enough for the whole audience) but I think most shows are standing room only. They listed both doors and start as 7pm which was a bummer. the start was 8 pm and they didn't open the doors until 7:15. There were a lot of cold people waiting outside. The 4 rating is because of the wait outside - once the show started I was happy but waiting to get in - and not giving any communication about it was rough. Acknowleding what was going on (i.e. there's a problem with sound, there's a problem with lights, theres's an unspecified problem and we're just sorry) would have made everyone happier rather than standing in that line wondering what the hell. read more

That was an absolute wild experience. We went as a group of 5 girls to see Zulan. She finally came on stage and we wanted to show support by dancing and singing along. My friend (a 100 pound girl) joined us on stage and was then dragged out by 3 large men by the arms. When asked for a reason, they just said they were calling the police and the group was kicked out. Would not recommend to anybody trying to have a good time. Will never return. read more

I like that this venue offers indie bands a place for their fans. Sometimes it is hard to find places that are not too big for new and upcoming bands. It is a small venue and that can cause some issues. If you have a small turn out, this venue is great. The issue is when you have a full house, with people shoulder to shoulder. All over the walls show signs of no crowd surfing and no moshing. You know what I saw? People would push into each other and bring people up to crowd surf, and the security stares at them and wave at them to stop. I would give a higher rating if they kicked people out who actually did this to stop it from happening in the first place. House of Blues is strict about that kind of thing and kicks out people who don't follow the rules. I don't like feet kicking me and people punching me for no reason while I try to watch a show. Otherwise, another issue is the start time. Show stated to start at 7am, so my friend wanted to come in while the opening act was going out. We get in at 7:30 and it's quiet.... The opener didn't start until 8pm. You can never trust the time the venue gives you. Overall, hope your next show isn't fully sold out and there is space on the floor. read more

They were beyond nice and made me feel at ease, they gave me all the information that I needed Etc. AMBIANCE: It's a music spot. Open floor plan, standing room only, once the concert starts it's PACKED. YOU WILL BE PACKED IN. If you're short, get there like an hour before doors open so you can secure your spot in the front. Bars are in the front by the entrance on both sides, with one in the back near the pool tables and bathroom. If you're there for a comedy show, cool, but babyyyyyy! If you're there for a concert?! And UNDER 5'8?! Find a spot in the front and CEMENT yourself there. You cant see ANYTHING from the back and tall people WILL come and block your view without a care in the world. There is a coat check, drinks range between $8 (beers) -$17(shots) and shows are 18+. It's what you'd expect for what it is. Come dressed comfortably. THERE IS NO AC IN THERE. YOU'RE GONNA GET HOT. Do not feel pressured to dress like you're going to Antarctica just because it's cold outside. If you can find parking close by, just walk. The less you have to carry, the better. Again, there is no food in this establishment and there is security before you hit the main floor. They search bags, check IDs and you walk through a metal detector. PARKING: Street parking babe. 2 hour limit or paid meters til 6 pm and then it's free/unlimited time til 8 am. You WILL loop the block a few times. They advertise a prepaid garage for $20 on their website. Idk where it is. We looped and ended up finding a spot right behind the tour bus in front of the venue (Look at God) . read more

I like this place, when I'm not getting ripped off by the girl bartender. Pro: Nearly all the staff were helpful and respectful. The place is an intimate place to see rising stars or just favorites with a capacity of about 450. The sound system I above average. If you get there early you should find in street, possibly Harvard Axe. The cons: For Katie Pruitt the lighting was limited and not set up well. Mostly light from behind Katie makes for tricky pictures. And there didn't seem to be much options. The ceiling mounted speakers can block views, but they don't have many options. Standing only except a few chairs for the disabled to the left side of stage. The 3 bars can easily handle the crowd, but it can be noisy and I ordered one of their wacky drinks and must of said yes to something because I got a beer and a whacky drink. I said, " I only wanted the drink". She started tp tell me that I said yes , then gave up and in a huff saying, 'well you if you don't want it" she snatching it and down the sink it went. Come time for bill and you guessed it, I was charged for it. It was a madhouse and we were leaving so arguing didn't seem a good way to end a fun night. I've seen a handful of metal and goth concerts here and I've gotta say, I think this is may favorite Boston venue for live music. Brighton Music Hall is pretty intimate and the drinks are cheap (well, Boston cheap). There's security at the entrance but I've never seen any employees intervene in the mosh pit. So it's kind of a free for all but pits are generally self-managing. Last, the bathrooms are clean and there's 4+ stalls. I really can't say I have any complaints with Brighton. I just had an incredibly unpleasant experience while at an event at Brighton Music Hall. This evening while closing out my tab at the bar after "Emo Night Brooklyn" I declined to leave a tip on the receipt. I had cash in pocket and fully intended to leave money with the bartender who had served me faithfully throughout the event but as I was conversing with my companion while still at the bar, I was accosted by a 'manager', who interjected himself between my friend and I and inquired about my satisfaction with the service, loudly proclaiming that I had not left a tip on the receipt. I was so incredibly embarrassed by this man's behavior and my companion quickly gave the man more than 50% of the bill to quiet his loud accusations against us in front of the entire venue. I have never experienced such unprofessional behavior in my life. It was completely obtuse and offensive and such will be my report in other reviews of this establishment. read more

If the room is too dark, buy a few 100W bulbs and get your Bright On. Some pretty cool and often unsigned artists come through this music hall. The country doesn't seem to want any Indie music at the moment but Boston does and it's a credit to the city that this place is here and is still thriving. read more

Pretty standard venue. For this concert the layout was very open, just the stage in the center and a few tables for mercy and booze on the sides. Otherwise the whole floor was just for standing with no assigned areas at all. I showed up pretty early and managed to establish a good spot up front. However that meant I had to wait a while in line out front since doors didn't open till fifteen minutes after the supposed beginning of the event. The booze tables have a good selection of drinks, including a lot of good local beers. Lots of cool artists come through here, so I definitely recommend looking for something that fits your tastes and checking it out! read more

This is a GREAT venue. Saw one of the best concerts I have seen in a long time (Spacey Jane) here and was struck by what a well-run machine this place is. The security is appropriate for this day and age. The bartenders are fast and pleasant. The space is small enough to feel intimate yet large enough to pack in a crowd that feels like a crowd. Even though it is a standing room venue with a flat floor, I could see/experience the show just fine standing in the back and I am about 5'7". I would DEFINITELY go back. read more

I seriously wish I could give this place no stars!! 2 ladies looking over ID's at the front saw my PA ID after seeing my bf's PA ID, told me mine was fake, didn't give me a reason why when I asked just said it was fake and gave it back(I knew they don't know what they're talking about because if you're given a fake you are suppose to take it...) I kept asking what was fake about it because I HAVE BEEN FLYING WITH THE SAME ID FOR 2 YEARS NOW- BECAUSE ITS REAL. They kept telling me they can't tell me why it's fake and we asked for a supervisor and for them to take the ID so we can really settle it.(He didn't want to take the ID because he had a feeling it's genuinely real and his staff fucked up- for taking a REAL ID. Mind you my boyfriend and I are from Pennsylvania so of course our 2 ID's look different than MA's but they are identical either way for us. I am a manager at a restaurant/work in the food industry and look over ID's EVERYDAY,not just for events or for a venue LOL! SO for any youngins' going to this venue make sure you bring your birth certificate along with your ID because these people make their own rules and DO NOT KNOW WHAT REAL VS FAKE ID IS! I am 24 years old and I enjoy to drink, I loved the show so much but having a drink would have been awesome because it's my fucking right! They do not have a scanner so not very smart talking about "we are giving your ID back in good faith.." your bartenders saying "oh maybe because it's an out of state ID" is DUMB all state ID's look different DUH. read more

The venue itself is nice and drinks are fairly priced-- $10 for standard drinks like vodka Red Bull and rum and coke and $12 for mixed drinks (absolutely recommend the specialty ones too). I went for Emo Nite Brooklyn last September and it was great and the Best Night Ever One Direction Jonas Brothers party last October which was also great. As a word of advice for fellow college students, the shows don't end until very late and Lyft/Ubers are very expensive that time of night so I'd book in advance. Both times I did not and had to leave the show early to catch the T before it closed. 10/10 would recommend read more

I like Brighton Music Hall quite a bit because they host a lot of smaller artists, so it's a great way to catch up and coming groups as well as find some new music in the openers. Gem was when we saw Wet here before their second album and there was maybe 30 people in the entire venue. Sound quality can be a little wonky since the stage is small - if you stand directly in center front of the stage sometimes it can be hard to hear since you put yourself exactly out of range of the two speakers to the left and right of the stage. The bar moves fast and drinks are reasonably priced for a concert venue. They are pretty heavy on the beer options and also have stuff like shot + beer at the bar. I've never had a problem with the staff or the venue, but I think in reality it's probably because I've never been at an event here where it's been packed. There were never any "strained" situations that would cause any altercations, unlike at places like House of Blues where its always crowded and the security constantly need to be clearing people off stairwells or enforcing rules against rowdy people. At Brighton typically the artists are all pretty small and the crowds are thin, so the staff simply do their jobs and not much tends to happen to cause friction. The consistent vibe at Brighton music hall is somewhere between relaxed and intimate. People tend to be pretty low key here, so there isn't any shoving or a tightly packed feeling. Especially for some of the smaller shows it is very easy to get very close to the stage. The one thing that Brighton music hall isn't great about is starting time. Multiple times, our ticket has listed doors opening at 7, but when we arrive at 7 we're told that the act isn't coming on until 9pm or 10pm. It's not a huge deal since the door staff are pretty good about wristbanding you and letting you come in and out, and there are plenty of great food options in the area since it's in the middle of Allston Koreatown. However, definitely something to keep in mind since it can be annoying to be stranded in the middle of Allston for two hours. read more

I like the layout, small and intimate, however The staff is completely inept and have no social skills, they also have a huge sign that says no crowd surfing or you'll be kicked out so I was not expecting to be kicked in head and have to haul grown men over my head while I'm trying to watch the band. This one guy, heavily intoxicated, kept targeting me and my boyfriend and jumping on top of us while crowd surfing and he even put my boyfriend in a choke hold at one point, security was no where to be seen so we did our best to fend him off and defend ourselves and then I got spoken to by some balding loser with long hair in a deftones hoodie that really tried to tell me I was being violent, I'm literally a 105 pound girl and this grown man was continuously jumping on top of me and my boyfriend and I guess this guy just expected us to take it bc it's a "hardcore show" I got kicked in the head 5 times but my closed fist slightly grazing this guys neck as I was trying to hold him up was "violent" the bands were really awesome however I'm probably not gonna ever come back because the staff little doesn't do anything to control drunk violent people. A relatively newer venue for the Boston area (considering that there are nearby venues that have been around for decades), and a welcome one to the area. It's a fairly small space, so you're probably going to see local, independent, and/or up and coming bands here. I went once years ago, but went again more recently and was impressed by both the sound and general setup of the venue. There are a couple bars located on the right side, which helps to split up lines if it's busy. There's also pool tables and skeeball in the back. It could potentially be a bit of a pain to find parking here (if you're driving), and depending on where you're coming from in the city, the public transit route is quite a journey. But once you're in the area, there's a lot of other things to do nearby. read more

I don't really have much to say about this place, but it was my first time and I wasn't really impressed. There's nothing around this venue, so you're kinda just stuck here for the night. Doors opened at 9 for the event I was attending, but the DJ didn't even come on until 10. Kinda hated waiting around, but thankfully I found seats near the bathroom to rest my feet. Lighting & acoustics were great. I can't touch on the bar and drink prices due to not purchasing at the event. read more

Great venue on a busy street! My friends and I arrived about 30 minutes after doors opened so there was no longer a line. We walked right up to the door and were ID'ed and searched (not to the point where I was uncomfortable, because I've been to a lot of shows where they went too far with the body search). There is a huge amount of standing room and we got pretty close to the front. I was surprised how reasonable the prices are for beer and mixed drinks considering most venues over charge. I love how there is a little "resting" area with seats out back next to the bathrooms if you need to cool off from the mosh pit. You can also come and go as you please as long as you have your wrist/hand marked which I absolutely love!! Staff was friendly and helpful as well. read more

I've seen a number of shows here, and never had a bad experience. The sound is loud, punchy, and clear (they sell earplugs for a buck if you've hit the age when you don't want ringing ears anymore) . Security staff does a decent job of keeping things orderly which, as someone who used to run security at The Channel club in the '80s, I can attest isn't always easy. I don't drink, so I can't speak about the bar staff other than to say they don't seem to overserve people. They also are happy to accommodate anyone who requires ADA (American Disabilities Act) seating. Just call a few hours before the doors open, and let the door staff know when you arrive. Parking can be tight if you're unfamiliar with the area, but it' s nowhere near as awful as trying to park for shows at The Paradise or ONCE  Ballroom. read more

I went there for the first time now that it's under new ownership. I had been to Harper's Ferry many times before that. I went to see Dengue Fever (band) on Tuesday night by myself (none of my other friends know of this band). The setup for Brighton Music Hall, I think is the exact same as Harper's Ferry was. The stage is big and in the back and then you can walk even further back to play pool, go to a less crowded bar, bathrooms, and watch the game. Also there is another room in the front where you can do the same. It's a little hard to see if you are in the back and are a shorty like me with all the tall people around you. Sometimes it's better to go to the side of the stage to watch. You don't get to see the band's faces as much but you do get to at least see them! You can also bring your camera inside and they don't search you at the door (at least not for this show). Sound quality was fine - it's loud everywhere you go so bring ear plugs. The bartenders were friendly and attentive. The male bartender told me not to order the wine - he said it was bad wine and didn't want to make me pay $8 for something bad. I appreciate his honesty. So I got a Magner's cider instead. My only complaint was that I told him to put it in a cup over ice which he did. But when I ordered a 2nd Magner's and the female bartender poured it over the ice there was still some cider left in the bottle so she gave it to me. Which means that the male bartender must have wasted some of my cider because he never gave me the bottle and I had even more ice in my cup before that. That's frustrating - we're talking at least 4 sips here! There's no parking other than street parking and Allston can be a real pain for parking, so make sure you give yourself enough time to find a spot or take the train. It's in great location as far as food goes - so if you get there early you can go grab something to eat and then head to the club. I appreciate the affordable tickets and alcohol (the cider was only $5), but the place is kind of boring. I don't love it like I do other clubs/bars. I kind of wish it had more personality. read more

The staff/ venue does NOT care for the safety and well-being of their patrons. Clear cash-grab with mostly non-refundable events, even with the weather down to -10 Fahrenheit (with winds making it feel like -34 F). 1. The fire alarm went off that night (false alarm), and security was yelling and cussing at a crowd of 18-25 y/o's. To "get the fuck out" and "don't grab your fucking jackets". I understand policy, but there's already a good stream of people leaving, and it takes 2 seconds to grab a jacket to prevent hypothermia. The language and aggression used makes it clear the staff does not care for the wellbeing of their patrons. 2. My friends and I sought shelter at Blanchard's for warmth, and bought a case of beer as courtesy. We were already hesitant on going back to the venue^, so we planned on asking if we could leave the unopened carton of beer by the door (with the other contraband). The first security guard told us it was okay, and we started setting it down. However, the previously aggressive security guard started yelling and cussing at me and my friend to "get the fuck out of here with that shit", along with 10-20 F-bombs on our way out. We could not get a word in to explain the situation: that we were transparent and asked permission, as previously stated. The language and aggression was uncalled for, given we showed no signs of aggression towards them. If a security member is that easy to set-off, I cannot trust him to maintain safety and order at Brighton Music hall. His aggressive behavior and poor judgment is going to piss off the wrong person one day, and put the entire venue in danger. I hope he receives proper training to de-escalate situations. Rather than starting conflicts with his aggressive behavior/confrontational personality. These incidents reflected poorly on Brighton music hall, and I hope people can feel safe and entertained coming here in the future. Something needs to change. read more

My favorite place to catch a show in Boston. Great acts come through for cheap, and the staff is really nice. A few years ago I came to a show in a cast for a fractured ankle, and they set me up with a stool near the stage :) The size is small enough to be extremely intimate but big enough to have a good sound and good crowds. Beyond the excitement and anticipation leading up to see a 90s cover band perform... this night in summary: event management nightmare. Security is not an easy job, having worked with vendors in my past profession. You'll see others have already stated that the coat check was a disaster... that's an understatement. Your coat check person calls out the day of the event... tough. You take an employee who just started and assign them to handle the micro-management of coat checking. Not being able to hang up coats, loosing coats, causing lines filled with half of the venue to form in front of everyone's eyes... embarrassing. Enough about the coat check... let's bring on the heavier stuff. Multiple women assaulted by one individual who clearly had more than enough to drink and a mindset that they were going to get away with just about anything... "he said, she said", heard far too many times from security guards who witnessed incidents that should have been broken up. Ripped out hair. Woman's chest being grabbed. A knocked out individual with no recollection of what just happened to them. This all occurred in a senseless series of events, in front of concertgoers and overly patient coat-check patrons.
