He enjoyed the visits from the carepartners who went out of their way to keep him engaged while giving us a much needed break to work, sleep, run errands, etc. Initially, we were nervous about finding an agency. VHCP's name came to us from a list from our physician. We spent a lot of time with them on the phone before actually meeting with them and setting up services. Our experience was completely positive and we are so glad that we worked with VHCP. In making the decision, we also checked out google and facebook reviews about this company where there were many positive reviews and our experience with VHCP was similar to the positive review experiences stated there. They could not have been a better support to us! Highly recommend this company. VHCP really understood the needs related to dementia and made sure we as caregivers were supported and he was shown so much love during the time they worked with us. They kept him actively engaged. We never worried about leaving him in their care and we fondly remember our time with them. They made great efforts to increase coverage (during a holiday week no less) when he went on hospice and provided more support to our family than hospice did through the transition. They also called us after he passed to make sure we were doing okay. They made this difficult time so much easier for us and they often knew what we needed before we knew what we needed. They were a blessing in our time of need and we highly recommend them.

Unfortunately it started to decline a while ago and has since dwindle to " pay up, put up and shut up" in terms of the quality of care staff and services. It is a constant revolving door of care takers so always training a new person and difficult for an elderly person to adjust. We requested if can have 2 or 3 stable care takers so they can get used to the routine and was completely ignored. They state that they prepare meals, and do light house keeping etc, but that entails microwave and vacuumed only, they are mainly interested in their phones while on duty. One time the care taker was talking on her phone while driving my mother to an appointment, mom asked her to hang up on her call while driving and got an attitude instead. These are just a few examples, and when we voiced our concerns, they fired us! As I said, Their mission statement should be " pay up, put up and shut up"!

    Before placing my wife of 54 years in full-time memory care, our family (daughter, son, and I)…read moreresearched local facilities and visited three of them, three times each. Cardinal Village kept standing out. The difference was their staff is such a positive, cohesive team, lots of comradarie and obvious empathy for their residents. Their directors (managers) are great; they are hands on involved. The care workers deserve praise; day in, day out, I watch them doing their jobs well, with love. I was told by management that they consider success is getting their residents to smile. A kicker in our selecting Cardinal Village was my next door neighbor had placed her husband there. She spoke highly of the place. She said there had been a few hiccups but they had always listened to her concerns and promptly addressed them to her satisfaction. We were sold. My wife has been there almost four weeks. By all accounts she has been thriving from day one. And because she is doing well, I am doing well. In addition to the loving care there, her day is filled with fun activities--mental and physical. It is so much more than we were able to do for her at home. Our family is convinced we made the right choice; we could not be more pleased with Cardinal Village.

I can say without hesitation that there is absolutely no lack. She is well cared for and the residents are able to roam the facility behind the lobby door, which is locked. Cameras are in every hallway can can be seen by staff members. The staff keep in touch with each other via radios. The residents are assigned to staff members so every staff member is not directly responsible for all residents at the same time. With smaller groups, the residents get more personalized attention. If someone doesn't show for a meal, someone serving lunch will use the radio to request a search of a resident by their room number. My mom has only been a resident for a year, yet I feel a bond with some of the staff. My mom is getting all of her prescribed medication, which she hadn't for the prior year. I would recommend Cardinal Village to anyone in search of a memory care facility for their loved one.
