We had two kids attend BrightStar - aged 2.5 and 4 at the time of writing. BrightStar represents their namesake well by exuding a bright, cheerful ambiance that you feel from the moment you drop off your kid all the way to pick up time. The staff is very approachable and communicates well through daily updates. The Christian values that the staff teaches - both explicitly and implicitly - are also in line with the teachings that we want to foster our children with. We had hoped to continue sending both our kids here until at least TK; however, a recent move has made the commute difficult. Overall, I truly can't recommend a better daycare in the area. read more

Heaven on Earth is the best way I can describe BrightStar. Just like every parent, we were concerned about how our child would thrive after being at home during Covid. It didn't take long for him to say the words we thought we would never hear. "I love going to school!" The staff are all so caring and so loving. Noelle's Yelp Notebook 2018 BrightStar Christian Academy is located in the Cambrian area of San Jose. It's tucked into a residential area on Kooser Lane not far from the Princeton Plaza Shopping Center. Our previous preschool before BrightStar didn't have any available space for full time. My husband and I viewed a few preschools in the Los Gatos and San Jose area. We scheduled an appointment to view the preschool. Ms. Jacquline facilitated our preview of BrightStar Christian Academy. The entire preschool was clean and well organized. After previewing the school, both my husband and I felt it was a good place for our son. We enrolled him into full time preschool (with before and after school daycare options). We could drop off as early as 6:30 a.m. Monday through Friday and pick up as late as 6:00 p.m. They have the following options: 1. full time - preschool and daycare 2. part time preschool - Monday, Wednesday, Friday or Tuesday and Thursday Pick up times are: 12:00 p.m. for half day students 3:00 p.m. for part time students They have the following classes: Sparrows (2-3 year olds) Turtledoves (3-4 year olds) Precious Owls (4-5 year olds) They also offer potty training for an additional cost. It had been less than a year since my mom passed away and we enrolled our son into BrightStar. Dealing with my grief and trying to potty train our son was not an easy feat but with the help of BrightStar my husband and I had our son potty trained in 1.5 months which was such a help, such a blessing. The entire staff sincerely cares for the children they look after. We felt safe with our child being here at BrightStar. If you're not into Christianity this is not the preschool for you. There is a heavy Christian influence in all they do (which we found fine but others may not). Our son came home knowing bible verses and songs. They also learn about other cultures. The emphasis is on helping your child to be a caring and compassionate human being. They also teach the basics of language, arts, math and science (but its not rigorous its more organic play, free range and child lead). Prices are reasonable for the area. They do ask parents to donate classroom items such as ingredients for baking, art or science projects. We have also donated in the past toys (parents would write out checks and the school would purchase toys/science tables and other items as needed). They also have a summer program which is all play based which includes arts and crafts, water play and tons of messy days. BrightStar is affiliated with the Assyrian Church of San Jose. If I could do it again, I would definitely enroll our son into BrightStar but perhaps the year before entering kindergarten I would seek to enroll him into a more traditional preschool which has a stronger emphasis on academics. They didn't at the time have a class list and handbook with classmates names and contact info of parents or homeroom parents like other preschools. This made it difficult to get to know the other parents but our family made it a point to make friends and schedule outside play dates. The children come out extremely kind and well behaved which is an attribute to the love and kindness they are nurtured with by the teachers and staff. We attended a birthday party where the kids all came from the same preschool with the exception of my son and a few others and they were kicking and rough in stark contrast when we had our son's birthday party all the kids were extremely well behaved- I kid you not. They are grooming good citizens out of BrightStar Christian Academy. How does BrightStar score in our eyes: Teachers: A+ Campus: A (classes are clean and so are restrooms, parking lot has pot holes and floods when it rains) Religious Teaching: A Academics: B+ There were instances when we didn't see eye to eye with some teachers but the open door policy to speak with the preschool director (Ms. Jacquline) and then program director (Mr. Justin) was always open which was helpful. Sometimes teacher parent conferences ran a tad long. I do wish they had information available about what conferences and educational backgrounds the teachers had (we inquired but never were given any information). Bottom line its a safe, nurturing place for our son and for that we are thankful. The staff doesn't babysit, they actually care for every single child and take time to explain and encourage good behavior to help with their development. They are an extension of you and help reinforce things you're trying to teach at home. My kid hated being separated from me and it was really rough for 2 months, but now I can't get her out of school. She just wants to hang out with her teacher and play the games she's learned. In conclusion, if you're looking for a good Christian school with staff that will care and love on your kid in a safe environment then this is your school. Unfortunately, the care our family received at BSCA was subpar. We had children enrolled in the preschool classroom, and the 2's classroom starting in August 2018. The preschool classroom was a great fit for our child. The 2's classroom was not well managed at all. In the less than 2 months that we were there, we picked my child up wet multiple times, he was in someone else's clothes and diapers (we suspected they didn't know him, even after weeks being there), and he contracted HFM which I noticed, not the staff, when I picked him up. A note was also set home that a 2's child was left unattended on the playground - which after further digging, has happened MULTIPLE times since the school's opening. The administrative staff was so scattered, and a few times I called the office during school hours and no one answered. When I said something, they asked me to email for a quicker response time. That's scary to me as a parent! Yikes! We really wanted to have this school be a good fit for our family, but it was not. We decided to pull both children less than 2 months after we enrolled. read more

My son started Bright Star in August of 2018 when he was 2.5 years old. He has a speech delay so we were very nervous that he wouldn't be able to communicate with strangers. I just wanted to start by saying that I love this place. In addition, my son loves this place and adores all the teacher at BCA. So where do I start? When my son started at BCA, it was a split second decision because he was not being treated right in his old school. There was a teacher who was constantly picking on, embarrassing, and rough handling my son and he was TERRIFIED to go to school every day. As parents, we regretfully thought this was an exaggeration on my son's part and chalked it up to him just not wanting to go to school. Eventually it got worst and we saw that specific teacher forcefully grab and turn my son by the head (which caused him to scream and cry instantly). That very day, I pulled my son out of that school and started our frantic search for a new school. I still remember when we first toured BCA, Ms. Jacqueline and Ms. Susan prayed for us and God really came through in the situation. However, as the first day drew nearer, I still had my doubts because we were traumatized by his old school. I put a panicked call into BCA and spoke to Ms. Jacqueline and Mr. Justin and explained what my son has been through and I can't have that EVER again. They calmly took their time to just talk to me about my worries, their no "time out policy", and how ultimately BCA will take care of my son. During this phone call, Mr. Justin was extremely patient with me and just left me with a smile and feeling really good all around. Needless to say, putting my son in BCA is probably the best decision we have made for him. It's quite a haul for us (around 30 minutes each way), but totally worth it. This is my son's last month at BCA and we have zero regrets with our decision. BCA has helped our family so much I can't measure the positive impact their teachers has given us. For instance, during parent teacher conferences the head teacher (for our son it's Ms. Melinda who he absolutely loves) and the executive director (Mr. Justin) goes over not only educational milestones, but also behavioral milestones (or difficulties). The emphasis is on the behavioral aspects because most "educational knowledge" can be taught, but mastering the behavioral aspects of a kid is like seeking the Holy Grail (you parents know what I'm talking about). Mr. Justin gives such good advice that every piece of information that we obtain from these meetings, we treat as gold (or as I would like to call it - "Sage Advice"). These conferences have given insights in subjects we would otherwise be blind in. Something truly amazing I feel about BCA is putting "life skills" in the forefront. I keep telling Mr. Justin he should write a book because his insights are an invaluable asset to BCA. That is all, but if you have ANY doubts whatsoever - just send your kid to BCA. Looking for a preschool for my child was overwhelming as I'm sure most parents know. When we first toured the preschool and met Ms Jacqueline, I could tell she really puts her heart and soul into this school which was one of the big reasons why I took my daughter here. I'm very pleased that I put my child into this school. Ms Melinda and Ms Kristin and all the staff love the students and provide a nurturing and respectful environment for all. My daughter loves going there and I strongly believe this has prepared her for elementary school. I love hearing my daughter sing songs that she learned in school. And she loves playing school at home. She doesn't go to preschool on a regular schedule but the teachers know exactly which days she'll show up. I finally opened a yelp account and BrightStar is def on my lists that I need to post for. My son's been attending for the last 2 years and I honestly love the staff more and more each year. Ms Jacqueline and and Mr Justin are the most hands on administrators I've seen. I LOVE all the teachers. Ms Melinda, Ms Ariana, Ms May, Ms Susan, Mr Alisha, I could go on for days. They teach our kids to be good people which I think is an even more important lesson than being about to do math. With the world we live in with bullying and hate the best life lesson you can give your kids is to be a good person and have a great heart. But with that said they also have a structured academic curriculum they have, especially in the preschool stage. If you want your kids to be in a safe, nurturing, and well rounded environment, then BrightStar is the school to be. PS. We had previously enrolled our 3 year old at a different pre-school, and in the 8 days she was there, we had numerous issues. Having to look for another pre-school, we were a little skeptical .. But we were blessed with Bright Stars. Our toddler had an easy transition and have had all but good Things to say about Bright Stars. The teachers are nice and caring. Very hands-on with each child. School staff are amazing, loving and caring community. My daughter goes to this preschool before she turned 3 years old and was also potty trained there. She loves going to school and i don't even remember her not wanting to go to school. She loves all if her teachers. She has learned and developed skills needed for Kindergarten. I definitely recommend this preschool. read more
