I GET A CALL FROM A REPRESENTATIVE AT 4:30 PM . SHE SAYS "WHY DO YOU WANT TO BANK WITH US?" I TOLD HER I HAVE TWO JOBS AND I WANTED TO SEPARATE MY PAYCHECKS. She said OK well, you've been denied Due to negative news. I have Navy Federal an account , 703 credit score, no fraud alert on any accounts ever, background is clean I don't owe anyone any money what the hell I got denied for? And why did I get approved with an account number and everything and online banking set up just to be denied that it seems so shady to me. This location is so disorganized, slow, and worst of all they discriminate. My family and I were, we pulled up waited for over 10 minutes. Then another person drove up after & was served before us. Mind you we had been waiting a minimum of 10 Minutes before the other customer arrived. The woman at the woman was a blantant discriminator. Treated us like we were second class citizens. As an update to the above - which was a devastating time and mind boggling experience with the bank that was oblivious to the disconnected and non communicative levels of over-reach - they are under new management and you can tell. Because I've not had the energy to "move banks" like I initially wanted to after the nightmare, the last 6 months have been nothing short of perfect and actually - pleasurable - yes, that's right. Now, of course they are gonna be slammed and slow at those rush hour times, but they are a "not for profit" bank, remember that next time you get a lower rate that the big corporate banks that suck the life out of all of us! Anywho - for the last 6 months, everyone in there has been consistently kind and attentive - and no, not because of my previous post because some are new that never even met me and I certainly never came in enough to be "known." Everything I wrote up there was not inflated, and warrants attention if you are a widow, or a bank policy maker - it wrecked me for a good month until all was straightened out. Upon realizing my checking account has been bafflingly listed as fraudulent and was apparently charged off over a year ago when I went to this branch in person to close it myself I was told by a branch representative named Gaby there was nothing she could do about this aside from writing the general customer service number on a sticky note and asking me to leave. If you've ever called their customer service line you too know true suffering as they never answer you, subject you to abrasive hold music loops, hang up on you, never actually "give you a call back". Also, don't expect any assistance from the fraud department either apparently as I was notified that someone was attempting to log into my account and was never told who, if it was handled and was assured "it must have just been someone with a similar username... don't even worry about it! I love the concept of a credit union however the customer service can be lacking at times. I've banked here for 15 years and almost every time I come here the line is all the way to the door. The drive thru is not much better. They have 3 lanes but they don't move. The tellers are very professional once you finally get your turn but they act like they've never tasted coffee in their lives. I tried to call this morning, however I was immediately informed that there was a 25 minute wait time. Really, I can drive there faster! So I drove here and saw the line inside and now I'm waiting over 20 minutes in the drive thru lane. Come here Monday through Thursday if you want any customer service. It's a safe place to bank. So safe that you may feel that it's hard to get any of your money! read more

I'm a current member of BrightStar Credit Union. BrightStar Credit Union seek to destroy my credibility as a member of their bank. I have an open checking account that was overdraft for about 2 weeks or so. It was an oversight but I never deserved a charge off to be placed on my credit reports for $1,318.09 after just a few weeks. The branch NEVER called me, send me an email or send letters to my home letting me know this information. I found out about the charge off after a credit alert was send to my email by experian, equifax and transunion. They dropped my credit score 35 points. That day I cried out. Because my credit is my life. I can't run my self employed business without my ability to get lines of credit from my creditors. According to the definition: A charge-off or chargeoff is a declaration by a creditor that an amount of debt is unlikely to be collected. This occurs when a consumer becomes severely delinquent on a debt. Traditionally, creditors make this declaration at the point of six months without payment. A charge-off is a form of write-off. I paid the overdraft amount I owed of $1,318.09 back into my checking account. The bank cashed it and still holding me hostage as IF I committed a federal felony. It's been maybe 1 month I believe this happened. This is not a bad debt collection situation. I paid them. Please. Please, remove this charge off from my credit report. This is wickedness. I can't do any business with any bank. You've crushed me. No weapon form against me will ever prosper and every tongue that rises up against me, I condemn it, I refute it, in the name of Jesus. BSCU is a credit union, but it's more like a commercial bank, ready to charge you for every and any little thing. I had a car loan, CD and a savings account with them. After my CD matured, I closed it within grace period of 10 days. The employee closed it, but incorrectly charged me a closing fee and didn't tell me a word. I only discovered it after I got home. So I had to call the branch manager to get the penalty refunded. Some time later, I moved. They kept sending me some promotional materials (which I didn't ask for or need) to my old address and charged me an incorrect address fee for a few months until I discovered it. Again, I had to call CS to get these fees refunded. When I paid off my car loan, asked to expedite releasing of a lien. Almost three weeks later, had to follow up a few weeks later to get the lien released. They don't respect people's time and are just as predatory as any big bank. read more

Friendly and nice CU however can not figure out why the drive thru is ALWAYS prioritized over those who had the wherewithal to get out of their cars and come inside. They will drop everything for a car in the drive thru. With a line inside of 10 deep these tellers will run to the car that just pulled up outside while those inside have been patiently standing in line for 20 minutes. Bizarre! read more

This review is not directed towards any of the tellers as they have always been kind, however the service is terrible. The wait time seems endless.... Phone calls do not get answered. I was charged a non sufficient funds fee but the payment was never made so why charge the fee?? If someone answered the phone they could explain this to me. I made a deposit the same day the automatic payment was attempted and fee was charged, it was more than enough to cover the automatic payment ... at this point I feel the charge is excessive and should be refunded. Management has the authority to reverse the fee but has been unwilling to do so in the past (yes this has happened before) and I can't reach them by phone . All transactions took place working 24 hours this should be corrected. read more

Absolute ridiculous lines. Don't come here unless you have 20-30 minutes, because they are understaffed. Sometimes the ATM right outside doesn't work so I'm forced to wait in line. And for god's sake, TURN OFF THE RADIO! Which respectable bank blasts a radio inside when people just want peace and quiet?! And they put it right under your chair too so you can't even get away from it. read more

I went in to grab some paperwork on my auto loan and was immediately greeted by Vanessa. That's the fastest service, I've EVER had a BrightStar. I'm also so giddy that the lobby was open on a Sat. I bank at the Davie location and well, it can be a challenge some times. Nope, not at this branch. This is my first time purchasing a car so I had a few more questions. I'm still driving my car from college that is 21 years old. Gotta love Hondas! She explained the loan process, printed my approval letter and wished us luck. Steer clear of BrightStar Credit Union- deposited a check that took 24 hours to clear the other bank and they still hold it for 7 days (while lying to my face by saying the check hadn't cleared yet when I have the proof from my other bank that it had and they are merely taking advantage of the float. Don't allow this credit Union to hold your money hostage (while THEY earn money off of it). Worst- the person on the phone told me the branch would be able to make those funds available immediately- I then go into the branch (Taft street location) and they tell me the same exact thing I was told on the phone. I have a loan with them otherwise I would have closed my accounts immediately. Take your business elsewhere (if you ever need to deposit a check for more than $5,525 which is the threshold after which they hold all your other funds for 7 business days regardless of when it clears the other bank). read more

I have been doing banking here ever since I left Chase 2 years ago. So far I have to say I enjoying doing business with Bright Star C U. I put some money in the money market and the rate of return is a lot higher than most other banks. So I thought why not get my exiting auto loan refinance it here. The loan application process was easy and most of them were done electronically. And after I got the auto loan closed I also got a credit card with 1.25% cash back. So far I really cant find anything to complaint about. read more

Started out fine but it's impossible to get anything done with this bank. Phone service either never works or you're on hold forever. The lines are always so long and they move at a snails pace which makes it extra irritating. I have been trying to get literally $16 back that they took out with NO notification and it's been absolutely impossible. Can't wait to close my account. read more

Outstanding service! I applied on line after my mom suggesting I use this Company. She had an excellent experience so I decided to apply to pay off a higher interest CC. Dionne my rep suggests that she could also lower my payment and rate for my recently purchased car and she got my payment dropped $100. The rates are better then any other I shopped. It's been 110% satisfactory start to finish. I highly recommend them. read more

I've been with this credit union for about 5 years now and I think that I can safely say that this is by far the worse financial institution that I've ever had the painful displeasure of dealing with. They offer good loan products and options but their customer service (both on the phone and at the branch) is deplorable. Oh... and if you do end up with this credit union MAKE SURE YOU KNOW what they are charging you beforehand because they tend to have a bad habit of overcharging. I urge you all to steer clear of this place. There are plenty of other financial institutions that WILL serve you much better than this place ever will. read more

I have had my loan with this bank for almost 5 years now and I usually always make an online payment. But every once in awhile I have to go in to make the deposit to avoid being late. Every single time I'm waiting over 20 min because they only have one person behind the desk. Today is a Monday, as a bank you should know people are going to have to come in and make payments and other things considering you are closed on Sunday. I have been a member for about 10 years and BSCU customer service has gone down the drain. From depositing my money on someone else's account, from issuing new checks with an account number that have been closed, to refuse to notarize documents, from not contacting the member when the account goes overdraft so they can eat up your $34.00 fee as many time as they want. From a very poor customer service, especially when they bring employees from another branch that don't know you. This is so far the WORSE bank that I have ever dealt. Last year I had over $3k that I want to invest and the financial rep advised me NOT to invest. He probably thought that I would need the money later. Guess what I invested the money on another financial institution. I can't wait to have nothing at all with this bank and I can't wait to see them shutting their doors due to POOR CUSTOMER SERVICE. read more
