It's not strenous and the rewards of the views after a short walk are well worth it. I visited when it was raining and so it wasn't the best view, but it was still gorgeous. I also went on the Obed River Point Trail (3.6-mile out-and-back). You have to cross some streams using rocks, and there's also a wood bridge. The trail has a hidden arch rock to your right as you approach the end of the trail, but it's small and there's a reason why they don't mark it as it's not dramatic haha. Towards the end of the trail there's a lot of small social off shoot trails, but the main trail is wider than the others. Near the end of the trail there's a marker and then an end point marker. Neat trail!

For those needing a mostly flat path with maintained gravel surface, try the upper parking lot trailhead. It is easily recognized by the huge Obed sign at the parking lot entrance. For a more uphill and challenging experience, take one of the trailheads from either of the bridge parking areas below the bluff. Pictures: 1) Lily Bluff Overlook platform -- an extensive platform to make access safe and manageable for everyone while also protecting the natural elements of the bluff. 2) The view from Lily Bluff Overlook 3) The hike up -- this picture shows the start of the trail up to Lily Bluff from the bridge parking area. The hike is all uphill with stone and wooden stairs, and roots. It is a beautiful, fun, and enjoyable hike.

I ve read of people feeding the ducks, kayaking, hiking, camp fires. It sounds amazing. I am reviewing it for what it is now, not what it used to be. Now, the Wheel House is an Airbnb. The mini golf is open and free for the guests. The grounds are still able to be explored, but not meant to be functional. My daughter and I spent two nights here. The Wheel House is clean, nice and updated. It has a bedroom upstairs with the bath. The downstairs is a kitchen, couch/sleeper. There is a TV both upstairs and down. There is no Wifi (this is clear in their listing), but the cell reception for me was strong. The hosts provided us with some complementary Gatorade, water and soda choices. There was also coffee available and a filtered water jug in the fridge. We arrived late, didn't have a chance to get to a store before arriving - those complementary drinks were very much appreciated! We had a great time here. We played mini golf, explored the old amusement park, went fishing (catch and release rules apply) - she caught 8 and I caught 5. It was everything we needed. And it's only 15 minutes to downtown Cookeville! The accommodations are comfortable. The brochures on what to do around Cookeville was also helpful. I enjoyed the stay here very much!

Not only does a young girl learn to live with other girls in nature, but she learns to live simplisticly and without the worldly distractions and pressures. Morals are instilled. Athletics are taught. And a girl leaves summer camp with an abundance of friends, love for the outdoors, and a sense of being a good, moral person with good sportsmanship, skills and talents. When I went you could go for either 4 or 8 weeks. Because I was 7 or 8 the first summer my parents sent me for 4 weeks thinking that it was a long enough time. Wrong! When the time came to leave I didn't want to go so.....I didn't get on the bus! Miss Dollie called my folks to explain and they let me stay the whole time. It was wonderful! So - what do you learn beside the usual camp activities? Looking back I can honestly say that I learned teamwork, independence, honesty, diligence, compassion, leadership, how to win - and lose - graciously, introspection, spirituality, self-confidence, this list goes on and on. When I had a daughter of my own she also went to Monterey. She now has a daughter and guess who's going when she's old enough? Monterey was founded by a wonderful woman named Dollie Williams. We all called her Miss Dollie. For those of you with sons, do not despair! Miss Dollie had a son - Malcolm - and he founded the boys' camp - Camp Country Lad. It's close to Monterey and is a mirror of Monterey built for boys. I'm older now and the world is a different place. I urge you to consider this opportunity for your daughter. It will definitely make a difference in her life.
