Wild and Scenic is a good thing. The Obed is not a multi-day family destination park. There is a family friendly campground and trails/overlooks that are very accommodating to families, however, this park is really best for three things: Climbing, whitewater and Trekking. The main trails are located on each side of the river and do not connect. The Cumberland Trail ( http://www.cumberlandtrail.org/ ) is located on the south/east side of the river and just through the park is more than 14 miles. It also connects to the Cumberland Trail State Park. So assuming there is not a lot of trails here would be inaccurate. The boundaries and river landmark make this a great park for trekking especially on the west and north end of the park for those who want to try their off trail skills. The whitewater at the Obed and Clear Creek is first class. However, you should be at least a somewhat experienced boater before taking it on. A family taking off down the river on tubes or a plain canoe would be a terrible idea. There is also several places to camp on the river so you can camp and take off early in a kayak the next day. This park has been popular with climbers for many years and when out exploring you are sure to run across them. When here you will see many out of state car tags filled with people seeking out the local climbing. The Boulder Field on the west side of the park is a good place to meet some of these climbers as they warm up or practice in a safe setting. One of the best things about this park is that it is rarely crowded. Everyone should explore the Obed at least once. It is worth the drive. This is a park for those who prefer their National Parks and Scenic Rivers to be a little more on the undeveloped and natural side.

It had a coupon for $12 off!! We called on Tuesday night about 7:45 (they closed at 9) and talked to Teresa who was able to schedule our foursome for a trip at 2:00 on Wednesday. She was so helpful and gave us some tips for travel to Hartford. Once we got there we checked in with a very competent and thorough young lady. We took a short bus ride to the "put in" point. On the 10 minute ride some of the guides performed fun comedic routines which kept us from thinking about how hot we were on a bus with no AC ( except open windows), decked out in life jackets and helmets while holding our paddles upright. :-) We got paired with a river rafting guide named Brantley. He gave us great paddling instructions before we even entered the raft. Since we had all been river rafting before, he explained that the trick to having a more exciting trip is to synchronize your paddle strokes. We had a great time with Brantley. We truly appreciate his concern for our "fun factor" and especially our safe trip down the river.

He verbally put her down in front of the whole crowd that was about to go to the course. Extremely unprofessional and I feel like if y'all have a high turnover rate, it's because of Ben. The gentleman in the ropes course, I wish I could remember his name. He was so kind and professional, he would joke with the younger kids and make them laugh, go out on the course in a moments notice to help someone, and was all around in a good mood. He was having a good time and making sure the customers were too. So was the younger girl that Ben verbally attacked in front of everyone. Both the staff in the tree tops were fantastic, extremely helpful, and a pleasure to be around. I do feel bad for anyone that has to work with Ben though. If he was my manager I would quit before the first day was over.

Spend a few hours in the tree tops and get a challenging workout (if you try the advanced courses)…read more Navitat is a great outdoor activity for all ages. It combines a ropes course that utilizes climbing safety gear with a zip lining course. There are several levels from beginner to advanced. Each course has obstacles that require you to walk/maneuver across. The course is designed so your are always locked onto a cable system that is very stable. So, you can "fall" and be okay. I've seen small kids to older people doing these courses and it's a lot of fun. If you are strong/tough, you can still find some pretty intense challenges here. I was sweating on their advanced one because it requires a good bit of strength and balance in some places. But, my 11 year old son managed it. So, it's not overly crazy. Staff are top notch. I've been here about 5 times over the past 2 years and they've always done a thorough initial training and made sure you're comfortable. Also, they have good advice and a positive attitude. Tips/random things: 1) wear closed top shoes. If you forget, they have some extras. 2) they have water and cups at the center hub that leads to the rope courses. 3) free lockers for your phone, wallet, etc. 4) helmets, gloves, harness/gear is provided. 5) you can reserve a time online or just go to Ijams and do it there. I've done it both ways. 6) If you go a lot, they have a membership and punch pass option. 7) they offer evening times and the course is illuminated with Christmas lights. 8) Ijams has free EV charging if you drive an EV. Overall: Love it. Glad we have Navitat in Knoxville! Highly recommended.
