Ok, I have been searching for a true BBQ in Ohio for years. Heard about this place from a segment on New Day Cleveland. I ordered the three meat combo with collard greens and potato salad. On 06/07/2016, I had the opportunity to enjoy this gem of Ohio with my family while on vacation. Being from Kentucky I though I knew what great barbecue was!! I was wrong!!!! I have eaten at the world famous Moonlight in Owensboro, Kentucky along with having experienced BBQ on Beale Street in Memphis in April of this year. Neither place came close to tasting as good as the BBQ at the Smokehouse. We started with the Chili Cheese Fries and the flavor was better then any Chili Cheese Fries I have ever had at a Restaurant. Great amount of cheese along with tons of Chili that had a large amount of beef. All entrees were large and very tasty. We had the Pulled Pork, Turkey Melt, Dry Rub Ribs, Beef Brisket and Smoked Corned Beef. The Corned Beef BBQ was unique, moist and the most flavorful piece of meat on the table. All portions were large and none of us could finish what we got. We each had to take half of our food home which left plenty for lunch the next day. All of the food including sides were mouth watering. SWEET TEA!!!! First Restaurant located above the Ohio River that actually knows what this is, has and does right!!! Brings the South Alive!!! I have been to this restaurant a few different times. Every time the food was excellent!! I could not get enough! The setting and the view over looking the harbor is awesome and super cool at night with the lights. One time I sat at the bar while waiting on my take out and the bartender was super friendly and very attentive! The wait time was very minimal. Well worth any time frame :) My most recent experience was not as excellent. Now the good was still great! I was there for a business lunch. We ordered our food and half way through the meal I ordered a to-go order for my office. Once we were finished and paying the check I inquired about the to-go order with my server. She had completely forgotten to even ring it in. She asked if I still wanted it. Of course I did! She said it will only take 5 minutes. It took an additional 25 minutes. I understand mistakes, however they were not that busy and she didn't seem very apologetic. This will not stop me from coming back because the food is too good. Next time I'll be a bit more proactive and checking on my to-go order. read more

Heard good things about this place. Sorry it was disappointing. Ordered a meat platter with samples of pork, pork ribs, chicken, brisket, corned beef. Maybe it was just a bad day but couldn't finish anything. Got a to go box just to throw away at the nearest garbage receptacle. This is probably my favorite restaurant in Ashtabula! The atmosphere here is perfect with it being right on the water- but it also gives great views overlooking the water. Not only is the food delicious but the portion sizes are extremely large here! The prices on the menu are not very high so you are getting quite a bit of food for your money! The menu is very vast but anything you get featuring any of their BBQ is the best way to go! They usually always throw in some corn bread with the meals as well which is the perfect contrast with the meal. read more

Pleasant surprise! Being from TN it was a definite surprise to find some of the best bbq and sides in a little northern town I'd never even heard of. Finally able to get sweet tea after spending a week in New York lol. The bbq was delicious and the sides even more amazing loved the potato salad and cornbread. Pros - cool atmosphere, great fries, and solid pulled porch sandwich!! Cons - Very slow service, burnt (but decent flavor) dry ranch wings, never offered water or drink refills, and out of brisket both times we went. Really enjoy this place... food and environment and beer is awesome. Ate there twice, once actually there, and then had a beer while I was waiting for my food. Good service, nice relaxing area on the patio. Service was a tad slow but I had a beer and it was a beautiful day. If I could give zero stars I would. I've worked in the restaurant business for years. I recommend nothing. The blonde hostess crossed our name off when she had a name and number to call... we did not eat here and we ate at the chicken sandwich place down the road which was sooooo much better! The manager at briquettes did not care at all and backed up the hostess when she was in the wrong, but we still got a good meal somewhere else! If I could do zero stars I would, the hostess was very rude to our party. We came from out of town and were planning to eat there for dinner, and the host took our name and phone number down. We come back after 45 minutes when we were told an hour and they took our name off of the list when we had said that we had wanted to wait. We didn't even receive a phone call, and they assumed we didn't want to wait. We ask to see a manager and we are told nothing, and he did nothing even though she was the one in the wrong. Freaking bloody Marty's were way overpriced for getting one lime wedge and lemon wedge, no celery, no other goodies like they used to have. Our waitress was the barmaid serving double duty. They were busy, so we had quite a wait for everything. Runner did not speak or acknowledge our thank yous. Food was average at best. Won't be back anytime soon. read more

If you don't check this place out, you're crazy! I was in town from NYC visiting family and had an amazing meal. The food came out of the kitchen quickly and everything was spot on! Our waiter Justin was top notch and never far away if we needed a refill or had a question. I loved their beverage selection and the prices were affordable. I only wish I was in town longer to go back and try more things. They are located in a great warm inviting building with amazing bridge views from the second floor. Updating my review after coming back here this past weekend. We were in the area for a girls weekend and decided to come here before heading to the GOTL strip. There were 5 of us on a Friday night around 7:00 pm and we were sat outside right away. Some of us ordered drinks- I went for the Smoked Peach, which I really enjoyed because I love that unique smokey flavor from their homemade smoked sweet tea. For my meal, I ordered their pulled chicken sandwich and added lettuce, tomato and onion to it, with a side of the broccoli salad. Everyone really enjoyed their food. What really impressed me was the service. It started to rain while we were sat outside and almost immediately the host came over to us and told us there was a round table waiting for our group inside. What?! I've never seen a restaurant take that type of time to find seating indoors for the people outside if the weather wasn't cooperating. I was so impressed! Overall, we had a great time here! Can't say a thing bad about the meals served here. Lots of sauce selections, all of them good. Proteins are all smoked very well, and have great taste. Sides, very good. Cornbread, a nice touch. Drinks are refilled frequently. Typically I get the 3 meat, with 2 doses of brisket and 1 of pulled pork. Always happy and well fed when we leave. read more

I ordered the ribs and wings dinner and the ribs were excellent and the bleu fire smoked wings are awesome too. Definetely give this place a try if your in the area. OMG. This place is amazing. Whoever is running the smoker is a Picasso of pork. I've had a lot of ribs in my time, and no exaggeration, these were some of the best ever. In Ashtabula, Ohio of all places. Not KC. Not Chicago. Not TN. NEOH! Super tender & juicy, yet firm, and the smoke flavor was just wonderful. No need for sauce in my opinion. But don't stop at just ribs and pulled pork (although that would be totally understandable because they're awesome). 7 layer chili was pretty great as well. Served over macaroni noodles which happens to be how I like my chili. To top it off, they have a pretty strong beer list, with bottles, cans, and some rotating taps. While we ate inside, I'd say sitting outdoors would be very nice, right by the river watching the lift bridge and the boats go by. read more

Great BBQ is hard to find in Northern Ohio, but Briquettes is a good choice. We've visited the restaurant about 4 times and had very uneven service, so much so that we were hesitant to try it again. We are glad we made the choice to give it another go last week. The staff was friendly, the waitress attentive but not overbearing and the meal was cooked quickly and perfectly done. This is my favorite place to eat. I always get the smoked chicken wings and 6 ribs. For sides I have French fries and potato salad. The fries are perfect and the potato salad is the best I have had. It is flavored with fresh dill. The ribs match up with anybody's, these guys know how to BBQ. The Brunswick Stew is excellent and is a meal in itself. For an appetizer try the Mississippi caviar. Food is mediocre would give it a second chance but we waited 40 minutes after our server to remember we were there. I couldn't even finish my meal because she never came over to ask for a refill. My first encounter with Briquettes was for a seminar given upstairs. Mostly appetizers, but all very scrumptious and I was hooked. Now my family and I go here frequently. We sat on the patio to watch the boat parade and fireworks for july 4th. it was perfect. I have business meetings here from time to time. I've also used their catering services a few times and not been disappointed. Its right by the dock and very convenient for takeout on boating days. They have such great food but they kill them selves with customer service and pettiness. I got charged 4 extra dollars for 2 extra plates on a meal of 34$s. I then asked for a few extra pickles. You guessed it 2 more dollars. This devalues their overall quality and I highly recommend making small changes and taking this restaurant to the next level. read more

Exceptional barbecue. As someone who has a smoker at home and is passionate about the craft, it is so much fun to go to a place that really knows their stuff. All the sauces are very good, and the sides are spot-on. We started with smoked wings that were perfect in every way. Then we split a 3 meat sampler that really had us both just swooning. Service timing was perfect as well , and the cocktails were fantastic. We've sampled Champion BBQ from the Carolinas all the way to Texas and Kansas City , but who knew we had something this good only an hour away from the Eastern suburbs of Cleveland. I'd been to the previous location a few years back , and it was good. But since they've moved , they've really raised the bar. Great spot. Great food. Great everything. We were in the area on Saturday and decided to eat out at this establishment because of the reviews and the patio. I kinda wish we hadn't. The appetizers were good. Nachos, Buffalo chicken dip, and chili fries. The service was good, our waitress was prompt and friendly. Our entrees were just..okay. We had 3 wing dinners, a chicken and ribs, and two pulled pork. The wings were crispy but not so smoky and very salty. The ribs were tender and smoky ish but very salty. The pulled pork was rather bland. The best thing I can say about the Mac and cheese is that it wasn't salty...but maybe some salt would have improved the flavor..or maybe an addition of cheese? The dark BBQ sauce tasted like Ray Ray's with cinnamon or cloves? No one found it appealing. The gold sauce was pretty good as was the mild sauce for wings. The ranch dressing was tasty. Overall it wasn't the worst...but certainly wasn't the best. read more
