My husband just returned back to our rental 20 min away and it seems we got someone else's order. He was 1 of 2 people waiting so not sure why it is wrong. He had 2 ham & cheese subs (we were to have 2 Godfathers). Not sure if Buddy is the name of the person or the sub but it was written on both containers. The person even said my husband's name as they were bringing the bag to him so he didn't look inside. He wasn't going to make another round trip plus the line was busy when he called a few times. I decided to eat mine. The ham is thick cut deli ham with tough spots that I don't find that flavorful. Hopefully "Buddy" enjoyed the Italian subs. read more

I've given this restaurant several chances, but half the time the food is RAW. I'm not talking ordering a medium steak and it comes out medium rare, i'm talking about ordering a pizza or stromboli and the dough is NOT COOKED. We had the breaded jalapeno cheese with marinara dipping sauce. The apps are definitely homemade and the marinara was amazing and we drank what was left! We also had a huge stromboli and the eggplant parm platter, which comes with garlic bread sticks and a side. The eggplant was absolutely amazing, affordable, and I'm going to get four meals out of that giant dish. They have local beers and it was an all around great, fun, and delicious place to hang out at! My son and I were passing through Conneaut, Ohio looking for a place to stope and watch the solar ecclipse when we stumbled upon Castaways Pizza & Grill. What a pleasant suprise it turned out to be! The food was fantastic, and the service was incredibly friendly. My son, who works in a pizza business in Chicago where pizza is king, was particularly impressed. The pizza at Castaways was a real hit with both of us. The flavors were fresh and delicious, the balance of ingredients was prefect, and the crust was just right. I'm gonna be honest we waited a long time for food. But it was with the wait! We came in on a Tuesday evening at about 640. The girl who greeted us was talking to someone else and said that she was supposed to be out of there hours ago. She was supposed to be out at four but she stayed to help because they were so busy. Her name was Jennifer and she ended up waiting on us as we sat at the bar for a little while and went ahead and ordered our dinner. When a table opened up we moved over to it and she continued to be our server. She did a great job make sure our drinks were full and she kept us up on our order status. With everything I saw this girl doing and staying so much later than she was scheduled for Jennifer deserves a raise! She is probably one of their most valued employees and I hope they pay her well! Anyway the food, I had the Godfather sub and it was delicious! My choice of fries were the sweet potato fries and they were very good except the butter that was brought out with them tasted like it belonged on popcorn instead of sweet potato fries! My husband had the captains catch platter -I think it was what it was called- And he loved it! Especially the shrimp poppers and the fried perch. Those were his two favorites. His came with fries too but he barely ate any because the other food was so good! Pizza and Perch. Absolutely AMAZING in every way. This awesome little restaurant, blocks from Lake Erie, is definitely a new favorite place. Certainly worth the 40 minute drive from our camp at Pymatuning. The restaurant itself is small and fairly inconspicuous, next to a bait shop that will clean your Lake Erie Perch for a buck a pound. Why bother fishing when this place is around!? Staff is awesome and friendly, the food is amaze-balls, and it way cheaper than the other Erie resort areas. We ordered a bunch for a family-style dinner. The shrimp-jalapeño poppers were incredible. As were the pickle "fries," which resembled Texas toothpicks. The Perch was amazingly good (and to the reviewer who complained about a fish bone... Get over it). Crispy, hand sized filets were cheaper than the Cod we normally get at Pittsburgh area spots. The pizza...... The PIZZA!!! Ridiculously good!! The homemade sauce is to die for, and we even asked for a to-go cup for the leftover sauce. Seriously, it is THAT good. Sweeter than most, but the spices make up for it. We are already planning another trip to this place. Cheap + awesome food + next to Lake Erie is an amazing combination! read more

Castaway Conneaut Ohio The cast away is a small corner restaurant in Conneaut Ohio about 5 blocks from the harbor, and like practically every restaurant on Conneaut, they specialize in pizza, wings and fried food. However, I have had their steak salad, which can be pretty decent, but they are not very consistent with their items, and it can be a hit or miss. The fish sandwich is deep fried almost to the point of being jerky and lacks any flavor, their wings are soggy and drenched in some sort of bottled sauce, and the pizza, well I wouldn't order it again. On a plus, they just recently painted and refreshed the interior which it desperately needed. So they have made some strives to do better. Now they just need to revamp the menu so to stand out from every other restaurant. To sum it up, its OK food at OK prices. read more

Food was good, but service was extremely slow and unpleasant. Lots of kind employees, but the only waitress working tonight was terribly rude to all customers and her co-workers. I've always enjoyed this restaurant, even when it isn't the fastest stop, but tonight was an overwhelmingly negative experience. Hope that next time a different server will be in. read more

We stopped here for an early lunch on a weekday. Sat outside on the patio which is a nice option to have. Our server was excellent and suggested several options. I had the perch sandwich and I don't remember what my wife had. The perch sandwich was excellent and was also a good value. The perch was breaded nicely and was just perfect in texture and freshness. I don't know about the folks that panned this place but we LOVED it. Started with the "veggie basket" a nice variety of deep fried green beans, carrots, cauliflower and others served with ranch. Delicious! I had the shrimp basket (21 shrimp) fries and house made Cole slaw which was delicious. Husband had a incredible pizza with cheese, meatball, Italian sausage, onions, mushrooms, black olives and banana peppers. The crust was tender on the inside and crisp on the outside. LOTS of toppings and the sauce was delicious Out the door $40 and we had food to take home. Service was fast and the wait staff was great. We will be back for sure. This was our first time at castaway as we are from erie. We were not disappointed, the Oriental pizza was well worth the drive. The homemade crust was perfect, the toppings were a party in my mouth. Pleasantly unique, never had a pizza like it. A little sweet and a little spicy. We will definitely be coming back to get another. Our waitress was very nice and attentive, she refilled our MOUNTAIN DEW at our table several times without our asking. My husband asked if he could watch the Masters on TV and she gave him the remote incase he needed to turn it up. The bathroom was clean and well stocked. I only gave 4stars because the bathroom is very small and not handicap accessible. But don't let that dissuade you from ordering this wonderful pizza from private owners and enjoying it in the comfort of your own home. read more

Saturday, August 13 2016, my family went to Castaways and we were very very disappointed. Not only did our waitress not treat us very well, there were fish bones in every bite of both my parents fish. The fish tasted as if it was fried in three week old grease. Of course, we weren't rude but expressed our concern to the waitress at the cash register, and her reply was "sorry." We didn't even eat our meals, and there was nothing done about our terrible food and service. My family and I will never go back. Terrible place to eat. read more

Hit or miss. Orders for family and myself run the gambit of the whole menu. Perch can be flaky or greasy. Great wings. My personal "Go To" is the calzone, especially for takeout. I've had it on par with some of the best, if they could just nail down the consistency. The latest calzone I ordered was horrible. Not only was the crust tough, but they made it in the shape of a stromboli. It also lacked the usual abundance of fillings. When I picked up the order the staff opened the box and I commented about the mistake and was told that the ricotta, pepperoni, sausage,black olives and mushrooms were there, just a mixup with the shape. When I got home we noticed a big disappointment in the flavor. I gave them a jingle to let the restaurant know about our concerns, the waitress was friendly and told me it was her fault and she was new at the job. She kindly asked if there was anything she could do. When this eatery is ps on the ball, IMO the food is hard to beat. Too good to let one or two bad orders overshadow the times food is great. I recommend giving this place a try. Just wish the kitchen would hit the target with consistency. read more
