Another small local restaurant that has a good variety of breakfast and lunch options. Call your order in because it is a busy little spot! My food was made pretty quickly with a full crowd in the restaurant. There really isn't a waiting area so you are constantly having to move out of the way or stand directly behind someone. My husband and I decided to give this local cafe a try based on the Yelp reviews. It is located not far from our home so finding it was no problem. It is a small place that sits a short distance off the road so make sure you are looking good or you'll pass it. Folks when we walked in we were greeted promptly with smiles and a "hello". This is what true southern charm is all about. We informed our waitress, Sharie, that we had never been there before. She made us feel so welcomed. She was very informative of the menu and what they offered. This is what you hear about "small town" charm. And that is exactly what we received here. I ordered the chuckwagon sandwich with a slice of tomato and a spread of mayonnaise. My husband opted for the hotdogs with mustard ONLY (he is a little on the particular side ha-ha). We both ordered tator tots crispy style. I also wanted to try their bologna sandwich based on another Yelper's review. I decided to have a little fruit with my lunch so I opted for the fresh cantaloupe as well. Our order was prepared and delivered promptly. Wow, we were in for a treat. Everything we ordered looked great and smelled even better! The chuckwagon was huge. It filled the whole sandwich. It was very good! My husband said the hot dogs were good as well. We both enjoyed the tots, cooked to perfection! The fried bologna was just as good. A good thick slice, if that is to your liking. I must admit, cantaloupe is a tricky one. In my opinion, if you get a good sweet ripe one then you have hit the jackpot. Well, that is exactly what I got. A good ripe one! Yummy I understand why this place has five star reviews. It is simply (with no disrespect intended) a "hole in the wall". But what I have found in my travels of restaurants, diners and eateries is these are some of the best places to enjoy with fork and spoon. You absolutely cannot judge what the food and service is like on the INSIDE by looking at the OUTSIDE. Our waitress made us feel right at home with lack of anything. My husband and I absolutely will be back!!!! Footnote: I am a stickler when it comes to iced tea. Especially since I converted to "unsweetened". Here in the south, it doesn't sell as well so it has a tendency to spoil unless restaurants keep it fresh. I also like my tea strong and dark brewed. Dick's Cafe had theirs PERFECT! My wife and I seem to have this curse that follows us. Every time we find a restaurant we really, really like, in about a year or so after that, the food or the service or both goes down hill to the point we quit going there. This has happened to us again at Dick's Cafe. My wife and I had started to notice that our visits were not as good as they had been when we first started going there and our very last visit confirmed it. When we went in, it was busy, but not THAT busy. The very friendly service in the past had been replaced with non-smiling servers just going through the motions. They all acted like they were overwhelmed, but again it was not that busy. It took along time to get breakfast. When we did, my cheese grits had very little cheese in them and my wife's liver mush was fried to just shy of being cremated. Even with that I still left a good tip when I went to the counter to pay the bill and the girl that took my check and card just handed my card back to me with no Thank-you, Have a good day, nothing. As matter of fact she didn't even speak to me at all. My wife and I were bummed out about this at first since we had been going here for about 6 years now, but like any bad relationship, it's time to end it and move on! read more

Cool place. Burger was good and served fresh. Waitstaff was very friendly. Place had flies around which I had to exterminate myself. Place needs better ventilation , I walked out with the smell of food on my clothes. I will probably visit this place again but hope they make improvements to the ventilation and get rid of the flies. read more

Wonderful fast service. They close early, m-f 5am until 12pm and sat 6am-12pm. But the food is great. The place looks like a rundown building and may not have an appetizing outer appearance but looking past that the cleanliness inside is outstanding. Definitely a 'hole in the wall' kind of joint. Been eating here since I was a little girl. They've not changed their food in over 30 years. And prices haven't changed much either. Variety of breakfast options, hotdogs 'all the way' are a must try, and always 'special of the day' available for breakfast and lunch. My boyfriend and I moved to Hickory about a year ago and never heard about this place. A coworker of mine actually told me about it, so we decided to try it out last Saturday. When 1st seeing it, you really don't think it's going to be all that great but that's the charm of this place. We both got the breakfast special, 2 eggs with toast or biscuit & livermush or another meat with rice & gravy for $3.59.....$3.59!! You can't beat that price plus the food was really yummy. I really miss places like this...the food isn't overprice, the employees were very welcoming, just simple home cooked meals. We'll for sure be back, might even go this weekend!
