He took the time to answer my questions, offered useful recommendations, and helped me find exactly what I needed. What stood out most was how resourceful he was he went above and beyond to make sure I got the right cut and provided tips on preparation and cooking. I quite like Bristol farms. But, after reading some comments on Nextdoor, I realized I'm not the only one to experience some schizophrenic reactions from the staff. - The folks at check out are universally great. - And I've had very good interactions with the team that stocks the beer. Although I keep fruitlessly asking for more Orval , forcing me to drive off the hill to acquire it. - But the folks in the meat department are something else. They pretty much ignore you for a good few minutes, probably hoping you'll go away, as they seem engrossed in doing whatever job is at hand. Then, when they finally come up, they are less than friendly. Maybe it's working in the cold, but I dread going there. Which is a pity, as the meats are superior at Bristol farms. Bristol Farms was here before Whole Foods was ever part of the high end grocery store chains. Although this location is smaller than the location in Manhattan Beach, it still has a huge selection. My main gripe about today's visit is that there was only one cashier who was in deep conversation with the customer in front of me. Granted she was assisting the customer with a concern, but I was in a hurry. I could have used the self service checkout, but I had fresh poke which I love from the self serve station. I didn't have the code to get a price ($22.00 for a pint), which is way out of line for the size of the container, but then again they used fresh fish in the poke and not fish that was previously frozen. The store is well stocked and neatly organized. The meat counter and deli service is outstanding. They just need more cashiers at this store, at least one more to accommodate the line. read more

When will the management make an effort to fully staff the deli, cross train the employees working other areas that are brought in to slice the deli? Considering bringing Luca from the Manhattan Beach store to train these folks. Delis are expensive, I should not have to throw away my money on your incompetence and lack of training. Horrible experience today when I came in for my weekly delis. Only one person working the deli, she clearly did not want to be there, was overwhelmed by the customers so she was rushing things. She was from the hot food, kitchen section, the one right next to the deli. I ordered several delis for an important event, here is what I got. Pastrami: Thickly slides, dumped as if it was going to be served to a wild beast. I wouldn't serve this to my dog, the presentation was poor. Jarlsberg: She sliced it thick and gave me the lite instead of regular and charged me incorrectly. Mortadella: Old slimy, thick and chpped up!, is this last week's mortadella?- I watched her not even clean the slider from the last cut so the mortadella came in with brown meat from something else. I cannot take a chance in serving this. Havarti: Thickly sliced, no sheet in between to keep it from sticking, dumped in a pile. read more

What can I say? Love the convenience and selection but don't like staff interactions. Don't get me wrong, I have had some very helpful employees but that's not the norm. More often than not, I'm met with someone who obviously doesn't want to be there and almost makes me feel uncomfortable just for shopping there. I waited so long yesterday for help at their meat counter that others left and the gentleman who helped me looked as unenthusiastic as possible. Followed by checking out - I've had the misfortune of checking out with this lady before. She never says hello, never looks at you or responds when you say a greeting. The young lady who helped bag my groceries made up for it by saying hello and thank you. I'm not a demanding customer by any means, I get everyone has a bad day here or there but this is not a one time deal! My favorite Bristol Farms. I love their Spicy Ahi Poke Bowl. It's so good! I wouldn't recommend their chicken salad (very dry) nor "The Cookie." I'm sorry, but I wasn't a fan. just spent over $100 at the butcher counter at Bristol Farms, and once again, the customer service was incredibly disappointing. When I arrived at the counter, I politely said hello and mentioned that I needed a little time to decide what I wanted. Not a single greeting in return, no smile, no offer to help or provide recommendations--nothing. After making my selection, I had to get a butcher's attention just to be served. Throughout the entire interaction, not a word was said, despite my "thank you" and "have a nice day" at the end. If you don't enjoy working with customers, perhaps customer-facing jobs are not the right fit. After a long and exhausting day at work, I shouldn't have to deal with such a cold and unfriendly attitude--especially after spending good money in your store. I wanted to speak with a manager, but there was no manager available. Unfortunately, the two young cashiers seemed to have the same lack of customer-service skills. Every visit seems to be a disappointment when it comes to service, but today was simply too much. The quality of the products may be good, but the customer experience is consistently poor. What a beautiful little grocery store! I love how inviting the front of their entrance is with all of their fall decor which include crates of flowers and pumpkins. The first thing you see and smell when you walk into the store is the prepped food section. Seriously, why does anybody bother to cook dinner when you have places like this? When you walk a little further, you'll run into their bakery. Everything looks delicious and is packaged ready to give as gifts. There's not much to not love about Bristol Farms. Sure, I'd like for it to be within walking distance from my house, but I'm glad it isn't because my wallet would be empty too often. Which, on some days, is a-okay with me - especially when I'm concocting and cooking up a storm. When I'm in the mood, and a recipe calls for prime quality of anything, I can usually count on Bristol Farms to have what I need. Now this location isn't my home store...but it's the location roasting Hatch chilies the soonest and gosh darn it, I wanted Hatch stat! So here we are, picking up our pre-ordered 25lb box of extra hot Hatch chilies. One of the skilled roasters loaded the box into my car for me, suh-weet! While we were here, we picked up a few provisions for an epic cheese board including Humboldt Fog, Mt. Tam and Stilton. Now, if you're here, I'd recommend you peruse the wine, seafood and meat departments. You will find something really special, maybe even a first growth? We added some fresh pasta, and pork roast for Hatch green chili spaghetti or Hatch green chili stew of course! I frequently visit this Bristol Farm location and I must say customer service is not up to par for such expensive high end grocery store! The latest disappointment was when they sold me Ibérico this week that expired last month! True I should have looked but I did expect better from them. When I returned it for an exchange (wasting my precious time) however Ibérico is not cheap so I had to... instead of apologizing for inconveniencing me she had a total attitude! She is not the first! I have been a customer of Bristol Farms (BF) in Rolling Hills for 50 years. During those years several other BFs have popped up and I have frequented the Beverly Hills, South Pasadena, Newport and Manhattan Beach stores. These stores are exemplary. Customer service is of high quality and all around selection is great. Unfortunately, I can not say the same about the Rolling Hills store. On more than one occasion I have been totally ignored when it comes to the deli department. Chances are the numerous staff working there have their backs turned away from the counter. They are not working rather they are chatting amongst themselves. It is ridiculous. Sunday mornings are the worst. Less staff so they make sure their backs are turned and are as far away from customers as possible. Today I asked if they had any shredded chicken. Reply, "No". Not "I'm sorry it's not available yet." (it's 3:30 pm) I inquire when it will be available and am told maybe in an hour. I can almost guarantee that at the other stores I mentioned I would have been told to get my other groceries and to check back and they would have it ready for me. This department is in need of serious retraining/training. I'm not sure how many people BF employs in Rolling Hills but there are so few who are of high caliber In the deli. BF in Rolling Hills does have a bright side: Two cashiers that stand out are Ingrid and Donna. They are always professional and friendly. Then there's Omar who I have known for over 20 years and watched him work his way to be the meat manager. He's fantastic. Finally, there's Ramon the fish monger (manger) who always smiles and helps me select the finest fish. He's wonderful. If it weren't for these 4 employees I would stop shopping at Bristol Farms in Rolling Hills. This is the flagship store but it sets such a poor example of being a high end. Bottom line is I dread having to ask any of the deli people for help. My experience is that they are worthless. read more

This is not a niche market anymore. For the prices they charge you should experience great service and exceptional food. The roasted chicken was tough, "fresh baked" baguette was the horrible airy, white bread variety, double the price on other items I can get elsewhere. I haven't been here in a long while so I definitely see the decline in quality. Looks like the long time shoppers are immune to it. Pavillions which I find overpriced as well, unless items are on sale, are still priced better than here and are of better quality. Bakery items are packaged in plastic like you would get at a gas station and taste that way too, USED to be sooo good. $45.99 for tenderloin filet, the quality, like the rubber chicken, does not match this price! Customers get off the hill and experience what good food is again, you're being duped and being ripped off! This is not the small mom & pop of yesterday and is what happens when big companies buy them out. Customer service seems to never be available in the bakery or deli. If it is they don't acknowledge you unless you interrupt whatever they are doing or whatever employee they are having a long conversation with. I would love to see this store go independent again. Nostalgia aside, if it doesn't improve it's best to replace it with a Trader Joe's or mini Whole Foods. read more

I went with the bestie to pick up my wedding cake. It's the day of my wedding and I still had yet to buy flowers for my bouquet. While the bestie was getting the cake, I was looking at all of the flowers. The flowers were gorgeous and while they still had some beautiful bouquets already made, they weren't quite right. I suddenly hear this sweet soft voice behind me say," If you need any help or suggestions, please let me know. Flowers are kinda my thing.". Laurel Floral (when I read her name tag out loud, she mentioned her parents sealed her fate, but I failed to ask if that was truly her last name). Miss Laurel Floral was THE BEST!! She was kind, and so patient with me. When I really couldn't decide what to get, she pointed out several mini color block bouquets in the back of the display case. I was sold! Picked three mini bouquets, and was about to call it a day. I had one last question, which was if she had any tips or recommendations on how to arrange the flowers. I am TERRIBLE at arranging flowers. She had one recommendation, which was to follow her to her little back counter. She took my three mini bouquets and made me a stunning bouquet for my wedding!! Not only did she make my bouquet, but we held a conversation as if we were long time friends. So easy, warm and inviting. When she finished I gave her a big hug, paid for my flowers and went on my merry way. She provided me with the customer service experience I needed at that time, and I will forever be grateful for her! read more

I love Bristol Farms for the adorable gadgets, desserts and snacks during the holidays. Check out this black piggy paper towel holder. I've had one for years on my kitchen island and everyone loves him! Granted I got mine online, that's not the point, they have the cutest chocolates and fun little things that make me smile. I get just a couple of little things for the Easter basket or stocking stuffers for the holidays. It's going to be a bit pricey, but don't compare them to chocolates you find in the grocery stores or dollar stores these are good quality :) It's nice to splurge on special occasions right? I honestly don't buy much of the regular grocery items there, I've had their steaks from the meat section, it was very good quality. It's nice to have the high end store. After shopping here for 10 years, I am very disappointed in several things: 1) the food bar - very limited options and always looks like its been out all day 2) no more trip tib or holiday fare - used to be the best food and now either not there or very poor quality. Went there for our annual corned beef and cabbage and was met by 2 day old chinese food. 3) the staff is super slow and doesn't care for the prices that this store charges, an immediate improvement is needed. compared to the Bristol Farms in Westchester, its a 1 star read more

I've been patronising Bristol Farms for decades (not as my go-to market for EVERYTHING, that would be madness)...why has it taken me so long to write a review?? I guess who writes reviews for markets, irrespective of how fabulous they are. Well, I'm finally doing so because of LAYLA. This charming gal SO went above-and-beyond the definition of above-and-beyond! One great thing Bristol Farms does, in addition to their SUPERIOR selection of produce, wines and spirits, cheeses, meats (ok, everything)...is the bi-monthly coupons they mail out. (Oh I mustn't forget...ALL the staff in their various departments are wonderful! I especially love their sushi man, butchers, bakery department and managers...cheers!) I hadn't received my coupons in the post this month and when I came in on Tuesday (last day for weekly specials...BOGO house-made fresh-pressed watermelon juice that week, my fave!) because on Monday a manager had told me to come back in and she'd give me some (she was covering a cashier), she'd already left for the day, Layla...whose post at the time was assisting at the self-check...graciously went to the office and provided me with the current set of coupons!...but let me know that the juice was sold out (I was crushed ), but that they'd accommodate me with the same deal on any of the other varieties of Bristol Farms fresh-pressed juices. I headed over there but the selection was totally picked over. Layla came over because she noticed me digging through all of what was left...namely, abundant quantities of several different kale, celery, and spinach concoctions...and to try to condense this already long saga, this angel...withOUT me asking for a thing, went to the back THREE TIMES in search of stock so that the BOGO could be fulfilled. I found ONE bottle of a variety my husband would like, and Layla found one bottle of watermelon in the back that has been pulled because it was the last day of the sell-by date .
