First time visit to A-1. Large sandwich (hot & cold), salad and pasta menu. They have a number of side salads to select from. Limited number of deli meats and cheeses. Lots of raw meat options. The fridges and freezers have some preoared food options. Lots of drink options. Some fresh produce along with some self serve rolls. Very friendly and helpful staff. I.ordered a few side salads and Torpedo sandwiches to go. The sandwich was just average. I prefer crunchy vs super soft rolls. The salads on the ither hand, we outstanding! Excellent potato salad and amazing caprese salad! Defina hot with the family! Prices were very reasonable. Parking. There isn't a lot but there was plenty of street parking close by. When you're in need of, or in the mood for Italian groceries, A-1 is a legit shop for all things delicious. This place has been here for a a while, a friend claims it's changed ownership, but I'm unsure if that's a fact. Either way, you're sure to find what you need and a few things you don't but you'll pick them up anyway because, well, Italy! On this visit, I procured some deli delights: soppressata, provolone, hot Italian sausage, caprese salad with pine nuts (nice touch) and marinated olives. A few cans of tomatoes, and some chocolate wafer cookies. I considered spumoni, but I didn't have a way to keep it cold for the drive home. Note to self: plan for cold storage next time! Service was swift and friendly. An offer to help with the bags out to the car. They don't have a parking lot, so street parking is it. Wear your patience hat because when it's busy, parking is a challenging. I'd say the only thing missing is a true Italian bakery. That's the one feature that puts a dent in my wallet...well, that and canned tomatoes. Why are canned tomatoes so darn expensive?? That DOP designation seems to add extra $$$. Overall, this place is a good option for shopping Italian products, albeit a bit out of the way for me so I'll likely only stop here when I'm in town. read more

Best beef dip in Pedro! Great little market for imported foods. They also have all the fresh in-house made fixings for pizza. Plenty of easy parking on 8th St too. They have an excellent deli and some easy to make pre-fixed items, like marinated chicken breast or they're excellent sausages, and several pasta dishes in their freezer section. I love going into this market and just spending a good hour going from aisle to aisle. read more

They also serve amazing sandwiches, antipasta and some hot dishes as well, all the go. We got a range of sandwiches (caprese, beef dip, basic turkey) and a serving of spaghetti, plus bottled drinks for 5 and assorted desserts and sides - for $75. These sandwiches were GIGANTIC, and we got the small ones! There is a nice park across the street to eat at/let kids run off energy, and it's very close to the Battleship Iowa and cruise ship port. Don't judge a book by it's cover as I did when it came to this deli. I have been living in San Pedro for 13 years and have been told about this deli on a few occasions. But because of where it is, I have never ventured over. And I have been missing out on some great food !!! I visited recently and was wowed by the service as well as the sandwiches. I judge a deli by their pastrami and A1 Deli makes one of the best if not THE best pastrami I have ever had. And the price is great also, whereas the other big name deli in Pedro charges a lot more and the pastrami is not half as good as the one at A1. This shop is easy to overlook given the location and the nondescript exterior but if you're a local it's a good option for some quality Italian ingredients. You can find great pastas in the freezer section, inexpensive semolina flour for making your own pasta, and some harder to find items like pastina. Visited A-1 for the first time at the strong recommendation of some friends. Wow! We were there to purchase several (10lb) roast beef's for a party we were throwing. They gave us one hell of a price, the meat was PERFECTLY seasoned, and it turned out so juicy. Plus, the staff were funny (and helpful) which made our visit fun. The store is dangerous though, we came for one thing and got sucked in by all of the good food! Fresh pasta, all kinds of sausage, meat, seafood, drinks, sauce ingredients. Dang it, our wallet walked out $150 lighter we had the sausages on the grill tonight. So so so good. If you want to impress family and friends while eating some excellent food, go to A-1. Small hidden gem in the smack of San Pendro. The store is a deli but also a small grocery. The store has fresh meats, seafood, canned food and some itialian eats and treats. I ordered a large capraise sandwich, and it was served on this pillow soft bread. The cheese and proccuto were so good, and it had a ton of basil flavor with fresh tomatoes. The man had the A1, which has a bit of everything, and it was also very fresh tasting (ask for mustard because it doesn't come with it). We had a good chat with the owner, and he was a very pleasant and funny guy. When we come and visit friends, I can't wait to come back for more of their relish Sammies and chocolates. read more

Came here on Saturday to try a couple of sandwiches, salad, and their antipasto. I ordered a torpedo for myself, meatball sub for my sandwich, antipasto salad, and just a medium olive antipasto from the counter. The guy who took our order from behind the counter seemed to be in a rush at first but he was patient when he realized we had never been there before and told us about the different types of pickled veggies we could get and how much and all that detail. This is important because we ended up coming back based on the information he gave us! Anyway, we came back Sunday, which was a huge mistake, so we came back on Monday to get 4 sandwiches and the whole Shebang for my birthday dinner. The cold sandwiches was soooooo refreshingly delicious. I asked for more of the dressing that they had because that was the best part for me and my husband. The meatball sandwich we didn't care too much for, but maybe just overshadowed by the cold sandwich? The antipasto salad (when we first ordered we had forgotten to grab because we were in a hurry! Ugh!) was delish! My guests at my birthday could not stop talking about how good it was. And then the pickled olive and vegetable antipasto from the counter--we were actually going to a resort in PV on Saturday, and so we ended up having this as our post pooltime snack. Demolished. I have to give the checkout guy a shout out because he was so friendly! He put the hot sandwich separately from the cold items we bought, offered to give us additional napkins, and told us info about the grocery (that they are closed on Sundays-but we ignored lol), catering information and timing.
