Manager Yoli needs to manage the staffing in the deli, cheese, bakery & fresh fare better. It's not the employees' fault. This is inefficient and ineffective management. The deli for example have one person who regularly jumps between the busy deli & fresh fare sections while the other employees are standing in their adjacent sections like cheese and bakery without any customers and not helping the deli section when there's a long line of people. The deli employee then needed change for the register and nobody came to help or cover so she went away to get cash for the register. Unfortunately this isn't one off. I've been here at different times of the day as this is my local grocery store and have witnessed this repeatedly. Several of these employees were vocal about how they've asked the manager Yoli for help and she doesn't care. They say they're told by Yoli to stay in their sections and not help each other. First time I have ever wrote a review for a grocery store but here goes. I have been shopping at this Ralphs on Hawthorne for close to 20 years. Today, I was overcharged by $11.50. At first, I noticed I wasn't given the special price for buy 3 at $7.49. So, when I mentioned it....Sue first tried to tell me I was wrong and then when I showed her the sign, she said I was still wrong because maybe the price wasn't for all the choices. However, it was and then she tried to tell me it was some digital coupon which made no sense. She left for a bit, came back, and then took the signs down that had that price and then finally proceeded to refund me my $11.50. I know mistakes happen and geez at least own it an apologize. I am writing this follow up review concerning one specific department in the supermarket. First of all, let me begin this review by stating, I have been going to the supermarket for over 20 years. So, I think I have a pretty good understanding about the overall staffing and operations of this market, at least from a customer's perspective. This review is directly focused at the meat and fish department. The reason I am writing this as a one star review is that there is a fact that all customers need to know. That fact is, they will no longer cut your fish or your meat without charging an exorbitantly high fee. This is completely ridiculous! Every other supermarket in the area will happily cut your fish or your meat down to size. Ralphs no longer does this. For example, I quite frequently go in to buy one pound of fish. What is going on in recent times is, if I ask to buy one pound of Atlantic salmon, I'm told by the person manning the fish counter that he will not cut it for me. My only choice is to buy whatever size is already available. If I want to have the fish cut, the price goes from $12.99 per pound to $31.99 per pound. That is the price I was told the last time I asked to have my fish cut. Ridiculous!!! You wanna lose customers, this is the way to do it. Whoaaa, this was a beautiful Ralphs located in the hills near the Golf Course. They offer more than what a normal Ralphs has. Huge selection of cheese, olive bar, meat counter, bigger hot food section, seating inside and in the middle a Starbucks. After reading others opinion here are my final thoughts; this particular location has a beautiful view and is located near the estates. They made this store special and yes the prices will be higher shopping in Palos Verdes then Panorama City or Covina, Ca. Also, you cant get mad at a grocery store for not having anything in stock during covid a bit ridiculous to blame a company. It was the entire country that was being selfish. read more

I like a lot of things about this supermarket. Most of the staff are nice. I like the Murray's cheese dept (now owned by Kroger?) Good parking situation. It's great to have this supermarket oasis on the peninsula. The loss of one star is that they sell The Epoch Times. That's not a fair newspaper and should not be sold next to the Los Angeles Times. While Conservatives and Liberals should all be less antagonistic towards each other and be free to think what they want... having this newspaper in the store is like selling MAGA hats at the check stands. Feel free to wear a MAGA hat but if you push them on me while shopping, I will shop elsewhere. And if I continue to see the Epoch Times being sold alongside real newspapers, I will shop elsewhere. This is my local Ralph's. They have a good selection of grocery items. I usually order grocery pick-up which has been okay depending on the picker. I've received produce that was bruised or old looking, which I've gotten a refund. The pick up option has been smooth and staff is nice. The pick up area is the 2nd driveway off of Hawthorne Blvd and you'll drive straight. There are 4 spots to park in where you will enter the spot number in the app. I usually wait 5 minutes or less once I've confirmed that I've arrived. read more

I love to see their charming pharmacist, especially Eric, he always makes me smile. They have ruined this once beautiful store! They stripped out the floor and left it with all the glue stains, and other dark stains. Spotty and looking like a store in a depressed area. Isles have been built up high and moved closer together, so when they put isle displays in isle, 2 people with their carts can't get by. The store is dark and depressing. Can't reach many items since shelving is now higher. Even produce is darker and depressing. They never have the self checks open where most people park in front. Alcohol is now in the Pharmacy - perhaps they think one should swallow their presciptions with wine or alcohol! Makes no sense, but the rearrangement of grocery items does not make sense either. Will no longer go here except to get my prescriptions and maybe one or two items Pavilions does not carry. All the regular people in pharmacy are gone, so nothing much to stop from changing to Pavilions Rx now. Pavilions is so much brighter, more convenient and sensible arrangement of isles and room to move around! So sad to see such a decline in a once lovely, enjoyable store! read more

This particular store is my local favorite, the staff are exceptional, hard working and nice people. There is a great selection of groceries and the prices/sales are great for the most part. The recent corporate changes have been hard on the staff. You can see and feel their stress even though they try to hide it and be professional. You only need to compare the working atmosphere to the nearby Trader Joe's-where workers seem to enjoy their work more-to understand how things have changed at Ralph's. Perfect place for "grocery deliveries". I don't usually have my groceries delivered because I like to check the freshness, expiration dates, prices myself when I'm shopping. But with this Covid thing going on, we all are forced to change habits. They are always stocked, so very few substitutes once in a while. Nothing ever expired delivered unlike Vons. Every thing is fresh n packed neatly so no touchy touchy what so ever. Prices are right. Can I get my grocery cheaper somewhere else? Absolutely, you can't beat Numero Ono's vegetables prices, but this is great place for delivery. Oh, they do send a massage that they might be 40 min late but honesty my stuff are deliverd just on time not a sec late or early. This is really the best grocery store. The manager must be doing something right! My review is based mostly on the online pickup service. They provide excellent service. Although items are frequently substituted, their team is always very helpful and willing to correct errors. The seafood has not been fresh lately, but it is a pandemic after all. I have been shopping in this Ralph location for more than 7 years as it is close to my house and the staff is always nice and friendly. I spend on average $1,000 to $1,500 per month on this location. But I recently had a very bad experience with the Deli. Before when I took my 2 kids to Ralph to do grocery shopping I occasionally buy cold cuts and and I ask for 2 samples (1 for each kid) and the whoever is on the Deli nicely give me those 2 samples. But last week and the yesterday I ran into a horrible employee who was extremely rude and she told me; "YOU ONLY GET ONE SAMLPE!" So I told her, I have 2 kids and there used to getting one each, but she refused rudely. The name of that rude staff person is ELAINE. I just wanted to leave a review specifically for my pick-up experience. They were running a little late which is totally fine by me but the woman who brought me my groceries and helped me was so nice and friendly. All the groceries I got were great, I ordered a lot of produce and all of the produce was in perfect condition. I love how big this Ralph's is and the variety of stuff they have you can pretty much get everything you want including some Japanese or Chinese ingredients. They have a lot of sales and specials too so I ended up saving a lot of money by ordering pick-up through them. They also probably have the best view (ocean view) driving up to the store itself. This Ralphs is large but oddly very cramped. Before the pandemic, a very large portion of this building was reserved for a huge service deli and dining area. Now, it's oddly just filled it with floor displays and random stock. The store itself is narrow and the lines get insanely long. You'll find yourself backed up into the aisles on every register with no room to let shoppers by. I'm guessing this store was built without the expectation that demand and crowds would grow to this size so that's why the logistics are such a nightmare. The small parking lot is another indicator of this thinking. So be prepared to stand in line or come on off hours. The service here isn't friendly either and the checkout stands are tiny so it's just cramped from beginning to end. Problem is that there's no other game in town in terms of generic shopping so suck it up. read more

After waiting in line, pharmacist will tell me it is by appointment only!!!I am not sure why we have to book an appointment for a simple vaccine. I was checking out as I do at least 3 nights a week. I was putting my flowers on the conveyer and realized a couple roses were broken and the hydrangeas looked a little withered. So I asked my boyfriend to put them back for me since the store had already closed and we were rushing to get out. While he was putting the flowers back a store clerk named Phoebe said to him "Get out now or I'm going to call the police!" He screams to me they are calling the police if we don't leave. I said wtf. I guess she didn't know we were together and thought he was going to take them and run out. I really don't know what she thought but whatever it was incredibly ridiculous and rude and uncalled for. She needs to be put on leave and sent back to training to focus on her customer service. I have spent thousands of dollars at that store but can honestly say I will never step foot on that property again. Thank God for pavilions. I only knock off one star because of the current parking lot situation at night. They close the entrance on the corner of Crest Rd. and Hawthorne Blvd. after 8pm. It's a hassle for everybody except those that drive to/from south of Hawthorne. Half of the parking lot lights are off on the parking lot on the corner of Crest and Hawthorne. On 10/7/2018 ALL of the lights were off on the other parking lot. It's pitch black since there are no street lights or ambient lighting. It's dangerous. I do like the professional and friendly staff. I hate going to Pavilions at Rolling Hills because they aren't friendly and have less staff available at night. Near the bathrooms near the bakery there is a loud chirp that goes off every few minutes after 9pm or so. It seems like they have a lot of facility problems. Shelves are stocked well and staff are great. I emailed Kroger corporate about the facility problems and Beth just said she would forward my concerns to management. I'd give the place a zero if I could. Went to Ralph's on 08/22/22 just to pick up water. I needed 12 cases and only 5 were able, 1 case was open and bottles falling out. Asked an employee if there was any in back. He said there should be 14 cases. He looked in back and said there wasn't anymore. He started to walk away as I asked if perhaps there might be some around the store in a display. He mumbled and went in back. I thought he was looking again. Waited for a while, he came back an was do rude and told me, "I told you there was no more." I was upset. He apologized and gave me Jorge to assist. He was great and ran around store to look and even called Ralph's in san pedro to see if anymore. As he was on call I asked a woman named Helen if she had packing tape to fix broken water package so I could buy. She handed me scotch tape. Really? I asked if it could be in the back.
