My wife and I finally discovered this place. We love the concept and enjoyed talking with the nice people behind the business, thanks Michael & Marla. We made it in on a night that they had a winery sharing their tasty offerings, I think it was a nice assortment of 6 different wines. There were plenty of people in the store enjoying the offerings. In our case we purchased a $25 bottle of wine which we enjoyed on the spot, before bringing the remainder next door for dinner at Gaetano's. The Wine Shoppe and the restaurant have an agreement, you will get charged only $8 cork fee if you purchase a bottle of wine. This adorable wine boutique shop is a true gem in Torrance! Lots of unique variety of wines to choose from and excellent service (they answer any and all questions about wine). Upon walking in, this shop is much bigger than I thought! They have a ton of cute gifts (like wine stoppers, home signs, and other quirky items) perfect for those wine lovers! When I went in, they had a ton of bags filled with bottles for the wine club members! Looks like a nice club to join if you're in the area! I did the wine tasting experience that they have for 15.00 for non club members and 10.00 for members on Thursdays, Fridays, and Saturdays from 5-8pm. I was pleasantly surprised at how fun this experience was! The staff was helpful and the wines were all very tasty and unique in their flavor and mouth feel. They have a lovely area in the back where the vendor pours the wine and where all the snacks are laid out for eating (cheese, crackers, and dip). I'm a huge chocolate lover, so when I took part in this experience I bought one of their Taza chocolate bars in vanilla flavor (recommended by one of the staff) and it's flavor nicely complimented the wine. Overall, I really enjoyed this wine experience and this shop truly has so much to offer. Great little wine shop, the owners mike and Marla are so nice, the entire staff is. Very welcoming and knowledgeable. Pre covid era they had wine tasting Thursday-Saturday, I'd go alone many times and I always had a good time mingling with the staff and patrons alike. They are partnered with a few good local restaurants where if you buy their wine, it has a sticker on the bottle and you don't pay corkage fee. My fave is going to Gaetanos the Italian Resturant right next door after a wine tasting. I joined the wine club and I get a red and white (or double red or white depending on your choice) every month, and the wines are thoughtfully picked out by mike and Marla. They had a tough year starting with a major flood last winter 2019 and now covid 19. DM and I came to Wine Shoppe for a Friday tasting with the winemaker and distributor. First, the proprietors are very friendly people. The shop was packed, and they were hustling the entire time that we were there. I didn't get a chance to talk to them about their wine selections, but I would assume that they are pretty knowledgeable, or they would not have such a following. The wines range from $13 to $50 (from what I observed), and I would guess that the mode is about $22. They also have a cute and fun selection of wine gifts and accessories. They do wine tasting on Thursday, Friday and Saturday from 5 to 8PM for $15 per glass. We were later in the evening, so we had the smaller glasses for tasting, which makes sniffing and swirling a bit more challenging. But, we managed. On this particular evening, there were 6 selections for Cuatro Dias, a Paso Robles winery. I was neither impressed by the winemaker (not very interested in talking about his craft when I tried to strike up a conversation) or the wine, but neither is the fault of the proprietors and the latter is a subjective evaluation. As a big fan of some of the LA wine shops, it is nice to find a shop close to home with some interesting wines that are always changing. I am a fan. read more

The wine guy in me wants to love this place. But at the same time, there are so many (dopey) wine gifts littering the shelves, it reminds me of a wine store your great aunt might like. People really like the focus on value wines. And while I appreciate a good bargain like anyone else, I often feel like I'm not getting much exposure to top notch wines (they do carry some higher end wines, but mark them up at a premium over other shops). I've been to a couple of tastings there, and it seems like a friendly, neighborhood place. Is it hip? No, but that's not important. People feel comfortable in its small town shop vibe. The people who run the place seem friendly and inviting...at first. However, I have noticed that the owner watches the wine pours like a hawk. You know that little thrill you get when instead of a 1oz taste, you get a more healthy 2oz pour? You will NEVER get that here. And any goodwill they accumulate suddenly vanishes when they're about to close. Then, no matter how many people are still enjoying themselves, or how many bottles I want to buy, the owner gets impatient and a bit brusk, and starts to push everyone toward the door. I get that the man wants to go home, but in my opinion, it can feel all business and a bit impersonal at the end of the night. Where's the fun in that? read more

I can't believe there aren't more reviews...this is now my Go-To-Place for wines! The wine is not your everyday mass production wine, and the owners Mike and Marla give a very warm personal environment to the store. More often than not, Mike and Marla have personally visited the wineries of their wines, and can give you a spot-on recommendation for a great wine that not only tastes great but can be a topic of conversation in and of itself. In addition, virtually every Thurs, Fri, and Sat from 5-8 pm they have wine tastings for $15 ($10 for Wine Club members - who also get larger glasses!) that usually serve up about 6 different wines! Of course there are also plenty of cool accoutrement to buy, so walking around the store while sipping your wine is fun too. There are plenty of regulars, and sometimes I just like going to the tastings to talk to people :) Other little bennies -- you can take a Winestyles Torrance Wine into Gaetanos next door and have no corkage fee! And every so often, Winestyles will do an event co-hosted with Burke Williams which is just upstairs. read more

I found this cute shop when I was parking for Burke Williams. Curious, I walked inside and found a really neat wine store. They organize the wines by taste rather than type as the labels are not always telling of this. On Thursday, Friday and Saturday they have tastings for $15. The owner was really nice and told me how they had been there form6 years. They only have in stock what is out on the floor and get their wines from boutique wineries. They're located on PCH and right below Burke. I love this place. Mike and Marla, the owners, are very hospitable. They really put their heart into everything. Their shop is filled with cute wine accessories. More importantly they have great wine! Their wines are divided into sections by body and taste rather than region. I love walking in and going straight to whatever type I'm feeling. Beside each wine is a description of the background and tastes. There's also suggestions for dishes that compliment each wine. They have a rack of bottles where you can purchase 6 for $60. Most of their wines are from boutique wineries. My favorite is their Lomond Pincushion Sauvignon Blanc for $23. There are tastings every week with hosts from different wineries. Their tastings are affordable and include small bites of food. Their evenings are always themed with either the type of wine, region, or winery. They even have ladies night which include treatments at Burke. Mike and Marla are hands on and know everything about every wine they carry. They have a database with wines I've purchased in the past. I noticed this wine shop after dinner one night at a nearby restaurant. as soon as i walked in, the owner of the shop immediately struck conversation and began explaining to me the wine selections and the wine tasting events they have on a weekly basis. Now, I love wine so when i'm told about a nearby place where I can have a nice wine to taste instead of driving to Temecula, I'm all for it. I decided to join the wine club to try it out......... Here's my take on my first day at being a "VIP member" Pros - * Membership is very inexpensive for boutique wine ($40/month). you get 2 bottles monthly. * Location is ideal for me. * I can take a bottle of the wine to selected restaurants and corkage fee is FREE!! Con - I was told that by being a "VIP member" i'd get a bigger glass so that my tastings may be generous. Now, I'm no lush, but in order to taste a wine, I need to be able to have a couple of sips. Sam (wine pourer) was being very sheisty with the wine. I don't think i even got an ounce in each tasting. For 6 tastings, i was done in 20 minutes and I had to pay $10 (member fee). I don't think I'd ever go to a wine tasting event again. I'll try out the membership for a few months and see how that goes. I'm giving it 3 stars because of the tasting experience and if my membership is worth it, i'll come back and give it one more star. read more

I've been waiting, less than patiently, for the new Wine Styles to open up in Torrance right underneath the Burke Williams Day Spa. What a great place for a new wine shop! I've been perusing the website so I could gear up for what to expect. Yes, I'm weird that way. Finally they've opened! And finally I've been inside. The concept is pretty cool: Simplify the wines into the different styles so the customers won't feel intimidated and can buy what they like. The styles are: Crisp, Silky, Rich, Bubbly, Fruity, Mellow, Bold and Nectar. (As you could probably guess, I like them all. Lush!) What's even better is they mostly have wines from boutique wineries from around the globe. Additionally, even though Wine Styles is a chain, each shop is individually owned. The shop in Torrance is owned by a Palos Verdes couple who dabble in wine making themselves! I love that! Every Thursday through Sunday evenings they have wine tastings ($10 for wine club members, $15 for non-members) with munchies in the back tasting room. During the day, they have a few bottles open for a little taste of selected wines. That's how they hooked me into buying both a Vintage Port and a bottle of BITCH! They also have fun items like food pairing wheels, the Rabbit (the wine bottle opener, not the one with the pearls), decanters and glasses, t-shirts, salsas and more. Keeping everything approachable, wines generally range from $10 to $25 per bottle. Overall, this is a fun shop with knowledgeable owners who obviously have a passion for wine. I decided to buy a bottle from this shop because I was dining at the restaurant next door (Gaetanos) later that night and the restaurant doesn't charge a cork fee if the wine is from Wine Styles...sweet! I was pleasantly surprised once I walked in and discovered all the variety and misc. cool wine stuff. I spent a good 30 minutes in the store just browsing through all their merchandise. My favorite place to go buy wines! The owners are the warmest, sweetest people who are ever-so-helpful when you are looking for something in particular or have any questions. I always feel welcome when I come here :) When I'm looking for a small gift/hostess gift, this is my first choice. They have wines that that cost no more or even less than your average grocery store, that can only be found at wineries. I also like the 6 for $60 rack. They're very accommodating when we want to order cases of wines that were never sold in stores. There's not much more I can add. The shop is like an adult candy shop. I swear I actually got goose bumps looking at some of their selection. I asked [Mike] whether they carried anything from one of my favorite wineries. He said no, but directed me to an excellent (and I mean EXCELLENT) alternative that was quite comprable. He even said which dishes at Gaetano's it would go well with. Later I asked him about a Hungarian Shiraz they had. He told me about the wine, what it was good with, and what it wasn't good for. Me and my husband came here a few times and loved it, so now we're members! Mike and Marla are great, they run this place like it's their own private wine cellar and you're invited to stay and sip. The membership is great, all small label wines. We recently picked up a shipment that had a label I'd never seen, Mike explained that was because it was the first time the winery had ever done a commercial sale. Awesome. I have never felt pressured by these folks. They are just great people. After enjoying one of the wine tastings provided by Ed. I definitely was sold. Tucked in so a little hard to see it, but well worth stopping. They don't carry the huge quanities they have at the big box wine stores, but their selection is extremely good. I had stopped in to pick up a bottle for a wine tasting party that my folks were hosting (lots of wine snobs to contend with there), and I didn't want to embarrass anyone, especially myself. Mike walked me through the Rhone varietals (the theme of the party), and picked me out a doozy. Everyone loved it (esp. the guy who reps for that particular winery - he was at the party). Never been here so why 5 stars? I called them from AZ to see if they could pick out 3 reds and deliver them to my father for his bday. They were very accomodating, selected wisely and delivered locally for free (even though this is not a regular service offered...maybe they could hear panic in my voice?). I love this wine shoppe, I can't believe I have not posted a review... We have been wine club members since it opened (as Wine Styles under the same owners) in early 2011. Mike And Marla are a joy to visit with, they are knowledgeable and super friendly! I went wine tasting in Paso last year, Mike was nice enough to give me his wine map with some of his recommendations marked on it. Luckily they both have the same wine palette as I do so their wine recommendations are always spot on for what I am in the mood for. The way the wine shop is set up by taste and not varietal really helps selecting a great wine as well. I have yet to have a bad wine from the place, and most of the wines are reasonably priced. Life it too short to drink bad wine!! Wine tastings there are fun, it usually has a nice mix of wine peeps. Although now they can get a bit crowded for the space since the word has gotten out about this place. They have wine dinners periodically which I have not yet attended, and several restaurants do not charge a corkage fee if you bring in their wine to drink with dinner (which is nice!). Great little store, with great owners. Came in recently, a few weeks ago, for some reds for a party and got hooked up with the 6 for $60 rack. Loved all the wines, though, one had gotten corked. I brought it back and Mike was very appreciative, and offered to credit me, but I just got another bottle of the same wine. And, bought another 6 for 60 of whites. Mike had recommended New Age from Argentina and it was a fantastic choice. I like going to stores that stand behind their stuff and are as welcoming and knowledgeable as they are!! A couple of friends and I checked out the Wine Styles in Torrance last Friday night. They do a wine tasting, 5 wines for $15, every Friday night. It was our first time in the store. The pours were very generous, and the woman pouring and describing each wine was very nice, defintely not pretentious, and answered all of our random questions. The owners were running the register and main store, and they were very nice as well. I did buy a bottle of wine from the 5 we tasted. The price range on the tasting wines was $13-$26, which is in line with what I would usually purchase. We had a great time, and I would highly recommend it. Be sure to stop here before going to Gaettano's next door. They allow free corkage for wines purchased at Wine Styles, which is really nice. A couple of other restaurants allow free corkage when purchasing at Wine Styles too. read more
