After his class they gave him ribbons that said he was ready for the next class and one for completing his 1st swim class. He was so thrilled! They have so much to offer. At other swim schools, instructors pushed him to put his face in the water instead of listening to his concerns, and it never worked. Zen Penguin was completely different. Their instructors truly listen to kids and meet them where they are. The coaches are calm, present, consistent, and incredibly kind. They take the time to build trust and confidence. Now my once water-avoidant tween cannonballs into the deep end with his friends. My younger child has thrived here too; he went from no swim skills to strong streamlines and rollovers in just a few months. I especially appreciate their focus on real safety skills, like making sure every child can back float to breathe so they have a way to self-rescue. We always have eyes on the kids when they swim - but now I have the peace of mind knowing they have the skills to stay safe even when they're out of arm's reach. Typically covered pool, during the summer months they open a few panels to let the sunshine and warm air shine through. Oh, and the wind, too! It is Hood River so fierce winds are to be expected. You can do a Day pass for $5 or buy punch card of 10 swims for a discount, more of a discount if you live in Hood River and are a senior. Even though I'm from Portland, I purchased o e because I know it will get used. I'm in Hood River frequently - my Happy Place- even happier when I get in a swim. There are 4 lap lanes and 2 per lane, splitting rather than circle swimming, always a plus. There is a timer clock on each end making it super easy to know when you've accomplished your time or to see how quickly you are swimming. Lap lanes are usually available all day but always check their website for the most accurate info. A large play area is available for kids and families as well as an individual shallow pool. A few lounge chairs and lots of metal bleachers on the perimeter. You can also walk a few feet to an outdoor patio if you need more sun. I did! Needed to speed up my drying time after my shower. Locker rooms are typical, a few private showers and an open shower pit area. Staff is friendly. They were super helpful and informative when I called to inquire about usage and the same friendliness greeted me when I arrived. Happy to have discovered this pool and will be back! I have a punch card to use up!!!

Do not send your kids here!…read more British Swim School class offered at LA Fitness Hazel Dell on Saturday @ 10am was a total disaster. There was a class being offered in the pool! While we were trying to get him dressed and ready! There were about 30 people in the pool taking a class of some sort and all the kids running around on the pool deck while they waited for the adult pool class to end. Total chaos. I am disenrolling my son and getting my money back. Avoid this place like the plague.
