Follow-up to my 9/23/2017 review. The wooden fence has held despite strong straight-line winds and a hail storm that tore down large sections of neighbors fence panels. Ours continues to stand as I would expect it to 6 to 8 years younger than others. We were told they would use nails that would not bleed, but seen a few start. The impression of trustworthiness was undone by the discovery the contractor and work crew took great effort to hide 2 sprinkler pipes broken during construction. All worked on the pre-test. On post-test 2 failed. I questioned the BritLin owner about these, and he pointed out the sprinkler heads were undisturbed, perhaps I'd remembered wrong and they hadn't worked during the pre-test. When I questioned further, he kicked up some of the nearby dirt and claimed the dryness indicated the soil hadn't had water for ages and gave a lengthy argument that a pressure loss elsewhere, common in systems the age as ours, could cause the spinkler not to run. He suggested I wasn't remembering correctly and the system might need testing. Wish I had trusted my own misgivings, remembered the heat of the prior day &/or compared it to other areas where the sprinkler had worked to see there wasn't much difference below the top layer. It was several weeks before I was able to examine the spinklers more. About 1 foot underground, I found each had large, flat paver stones missing from another area of the yard. These I had asked about while examining the completed fence. They were not missing as I'd thought due to a neighborhood prank. They were clearly put underground on purpose. The crew who'd shrugged their shoulders when I'd asked about them were not suggesting they didn't know as I'd believed, but refusing to give an answer. The stones diverted water from the broken pipes underground so it would not pool at the surface. Any pooling during a post-test would've indicated a break and other reason the sprinkler heads were not running. I believe BritLin was trying to avoid paying for damages. Life got busy, weather got cold and I had a surgery that prevented me from investigating further until earlier his month with a help of a friend. One of the two locations was actually chopped in multiple spots and a portion cemented with the base of a post. In addition to the pavers, broken sections were turned so their open ends were flush with the foundation of the house. This made no sense to me until my friend described how if we'd dug them up the day the fence had been completed, they could've mislead me to believe that was where the water came out from the house for the sprinkler system. Metal fencing has a few small rust spots starting. The gate closes uphill so that in the short time since it was installed it has become difficult to open/close. Not impossible, just not easy as it was initially. BritLin is still a good value, but buyer beware and watchful. read more

Terrible customer service and organization! Called on 02/21/17 and asked about replacing a bad fence post. Got a good quote over the phone and was told they'd fit me in between "Big" jobs sometime later in the week. Sounded reasonable. Waited two weeks and still hadn't heard anything. Called again 03/07/2017 to check up on things. After about ten minutes waiting for them to find my order I was told that I'd have people in my neighborhood on Thursday and that I would be seen then. Not a big deal as I wasn't in a rush so I considered it done. Thursday comes and goes no call no show. Called again 03/13/2017. After explaining my situation I was told that "there isn't any money in replacing one post" and that "we do it as a courtesy". The gentleman refused to take responsibility for anything. When he said we could have people there today and I explained that I was calling on my way into work he got upset with me. I had been waiting the better part of a month at this point...was it not reasonable to call thinking I'd have to schedule it in advance? I was told "if you can find anyone that'll do it maybe you should go to them!" I realize it's a small problem but with the job being so small and causing so many issues didn't want someone to book a large job and end up with big problems. Try some where else in my opinion.
