It's been almost 10 years since Roddy's crew with BritLin replaced my fence, so it seems like a good time for an update. First, I still really like Britlin, and Roddy, and his crews, and appreciate all the good things they do in the communities they serve. Honestly, I think they're awesome! If I ever have to get my fence replaced, I'll probably hire them again. But there are a couple of things I'd do differently, and I thought it might be helpful to prospective clients if I shared them now. BritLin offers a lifetime warranty of their work (not the materials), which is awesome, and one of the reasons I chose them. I think there have been only 4 times in 8 years I've had to call them to adjust the gate or to reattach a fence panel that fell down. I live in a place that gets A Lot of forceful winds, so I'm really satisfied with that number. I would suggest to prospective clients to get metal fence posts, not wooden ones. I've had the opportunity to see the fence posts on my neighbors' sides of the fence, and honestly, I'm embarrassed by how warped they've become. I try to add value to my home and my neighbors with such investments, and I feel like my neighbors got slighted by that choice. What's more, the warped fence posts make the fence lean oddly in several places. I'd definitely do metal posts next time. I would suggest for prospective clients to make sure your contract includes screws, not nails, to attach the fence. Nails were used on mine, and they simply don't hold well over the years. When Roddy pointed that out to me, I asked him if I could pay for his guys to come remove the nails and reattach the fence panels with screws to avoid any further issues with surprise panels falling over into the yard, especially since both my neighbors have dogs and/or kids, and I have cats. My offer was declined. I would also advise prospective clients to be aware that if a fence panel falls, and you split a slat while trying to temporarily reattach it, that slat may not get replaced. Also, if you tend to keep your gate locked for security reasons, that may create some slight difficulty if you have to get repairs done, since the repair crew tends to come by unannounced before or after a job. Roddy does a great job at trying to coordinate and communicate such events, but he's *very* busy! Overall, I'd have to say my experience with BritLin has been outstanding and I highly recommend them. read more

Follow-up to my 9/23/2017 review. The wooden fence has held despite strong straight-line winds and a hail storm that tore down large sections of neighbors fence panels. Ours continues to stand as I would expect it to 6 to 8 years younger than others. We were told they would use nails that would not bleed, but seen a few start. The impression of trustworthiness was undone by the discovery the contractor and work crew took great effort to hide 2 sprinkler pipes broken during construction. All worked on the pre-test. On post-test 2 failed. I questioned the BritLin owner about these, and he pointed out the sprinkler heads were undisturbed, perhaps I'd remembered wrong and they hadn't worked during the pre-test. When I questioned further, he kicked up some of the nearby dirt and claimed the dryness indicated the soil hadn't had water for ages and gave a lengthy argument that a pressure loss elsewhere, common in systems the age as ours, could cause the spinkler not to run. He suggested I wasn't remembering correctly and the system might need testing. Wish I had trusted my own misgivings, remembered the heat of the prior day &/or compared it to other areas where the sprinkler had worked to see there wasn't much difference below the top layer. It was several weeks before I was able to examine the spinklers more. About 1 foot underground, I found each had large, flat paver stones missing from another area of the yard. These I had asked about while examining the completed fence. They were not missing as I'd thought due to a neighborhood prank. They were clearly put underground on purpose. The crew who'd shrugged their shoulders when I'd asked about them were not suggesting they didn't know as I'd believed, but refusing to give an answer. The stones diverted water from the broken pipes underground so it would not pool at the surface. Any pooling during a post-test would've indicated a break and other reason the sprinkler heads were not running. I believe BritLin was trying to avoid paying for damages. Life got busy, weather got cold and I had a surgery that prevented me from investigating further until earlier his month with a help of a friend. One of the two locations was actually chopped in multiple spots and a portion cemented with the base of a post. In addition to the pavers, broken sections were turned so their open ends were flush with the foundation of the house. This made no sense to me until my friend described how if we'd dug them up the day the fence had been completed, they could've mislead me to believe that was where the water came out from the house for the sprinkler system. Metal fencing has a few small rust spots starting. The gate closes uphill so that in the short time since it was installed it has become difficult to open/close. Not impossible, just not easy as it was initially. BritLin is still a good value, but buyer beware and watchful. read more
