Apart from being a great music venue with its outdoor patio and sound system upstairs and all, Brix also has a brunch to gripe home about. Brunch is delish! The chicken fried country steak is something special and served on top of their yummy biscuit and light gravy...and the home fries is also something special. And perfect yet...the outdoor patio is nice and chill, perfect with enough shade and just the right amount of vitamin d. I cannot put into words how good the food is here. We were there for brunch. I ordered the Shrimp and Grits; they were THE BEST shrimp and grits I've had. I was fortunate to also taste the Fish and Grits, Oxtail Hash, and the Peach Cobbler Waffles. EVERYTHING was AMAZING. The oxtails had no fat and melt in your mouth, the fish seasoned and fried to perfection, and the Waffles are to die for. Ontop of it all we received excellent customer service. The staff was friendly and attentive. They paid attention to small details like the fresh cut pink roses on our table for the birthday girl (it was mentioned that her favorite color is pink). Came here for their first few series launch of #TheRecipe brunch day parties. Food was served buffet style.. Fried chicken, waffles, egg scramble, grilled pork loins, grilled shrimp & grits... The food was decent. The dish that stood out the most was their cream that went with their waffles and peaches. I had 4 servings... So yes. It was delicious! Bottomless mimosas too. I'd say it's worth the $40, if you kept drinking lol. Music was cool. Beer pong table should have a sign up sheet, lots of people waiting long for a game.. Some confusion about who was up. It is funky and unexpected and they have a tiny but nice outdoor patio. The best part was the Bloody Mary (spicy and strong) and the food! I had the baked eggs, which was filling and delicious, and my boyfriend had the open faced chicken fried steak. The food was so tasty and their biscuits are beyond yummy! Stephanie and her husband let me host an event here and were very professional and welcoming. Everyone who attended my event had a great time and raved about how good the food was (Particularly the lemon pepper wings) The staff at Brix is very friendly and welcoming which really helps set Brix apart. The bartender who helped us set up for the event was also very nice (Didn't catch his name) he helped us with the set up, and assist us with everything we needed prior to our event starting. Stephanie is a great supporter of Bay Area events, and without her and Brix 581, Oakland would not have as many great events as it has. read more

The vibe here is a little grungy mixed with artsy touches. It's a small space and feels a little like your on someone's patio or backyard. The brunch here is bomb! Love the shrimp and grits, it's nice and spicy. Calamansi mimosas are Delish as well. The menu rotates and the choices are limited, but we haven't had anything here we didn't like. As for the club portion, I've been here when the crowd was super chill and also when it was hella ratchet, just depends on the DJ that night so check ahead of you have a preference. The downstairs bar can be hard to get to but the bartenders are friendly and try their best to hustle. It looks like there is a bar set up upstairs but It hasn't been in use any time I've been there. We came here on Saturday and had a great time. The food was impeccable! I'm from Texas/Louisiana so this is my kind of stuff. It was authentic and so good!! Had the fried chicken with turkey greens, jumbalaya mac, shrimp and grits, and some hush puppies with remoulade to start. Our waitress was really sweet and attentive...and another woman who we think was the owner/manager was really kind and helpful as well...it made for a good atmosphere. They had good DJ type music playing so we listened and finished our cocktails on the patio after dinner. It reminded me of some of the good local off-the-beaten-path places in New Orleans. What an amazing venue! We had our wedding after party there. We were able to rent out the entire bar, upstairs and downstairs, for a very reasonable price without any drink minimum. The music and environment were awesome! DJ Pope made sure all my friends danced all night. The owner, Stephanie, was super professional and friendly throughout the whole process. What can I say about my absolute favorite bar in Oakland? The owner Stephanie knows customer service and how to immediately make you feel like she has known you for years, even if it is your first time walking through those doors. Brix makes you feel at family and I have been going there every Thursday night for almost 2 years for their karaoke with the wonderful DJ Mike! It is a place where everyone and anyone can feel welcome. The patio offers a chill environment to enjoy the evening and they even have heaters for colder nights in winter. The food is delicious. I have had everything on their night menu from the wings, pork belly mac & cheese down to the salads. You can really tell they put their heart into the food here, and everything is carefully created to maximum deliciousness. I, regretfully, somehow have not yet made it there for brunch - but I definitely plan to! Ultimately, as soon as you come here you feel nothing but love from Stephanie and her attentive staff. The team at Brix works really well together to produce an exceptional Sunday brunch. This is a much bigger accomplishment than you'd expect once you learn that the servers were all there tending bar at a packed club night just a few hours earlier. Stephanie seems to draw the best out of her sharp, energetic, eager staff. We were delighted that Steven made time to come out and chat with us about his creations ... of which we savored every bite. I had the baked egg dish, my wife ordered the fresh banana bread entree. We weren't planning to share, but once the food arrived we knew we needed to split, both dishes were outrageously good. Have been here both for the weekend brunch, and on a weekend night. The brunch food was delicious, all 4 of us at the table ordered something different and it as all nothing less than great. Bloody Mary's were good and atmosphere was quiet. Not pricey at all. Very reasonable for the area. Found myself here on a weekend night because I see a lot of local djs promoting for here. And I love to support local. They have 2 stages. They create the outside lounge area into a stage. And they do have an upstairs room as well. Drinks were good again and the people that hang out their were nice and chill. Plenty of seating in the downstairs area if you don't feel like dancing and just want to enjoy drinks with friends. Had brunch here on Sunday. Awesome!! I came with a bunch of friends so I got to try a pretty wide selection of the menu. BANANA BREAD FRENCH TOAST = So goooood! I was concerned it would be too sweet and cake-y but it was actually very well done. Not overly sponge-y at all. They sprinkle pecans on top but if you have issues with nuts (like my friend) don't worry. There aren't any baked into the banana bread can you can opt for no pecans. The waffle + pork belly and chicken fried steak + biscuits was awesome too. I've decided I'm getting the chicken fried steak next time I go. OH if ur down with spice-y make sure u ask for a bit of the habanero sauce. It's the consistency of mustard...and comes in a little side dish. They have their own unique take on classic brunch dishes. Sometimes food spots try to be hip but the results don't taste that good. Not here though. Our tastebuds were definitely satisfied! Service was great too! We actually arrived a few minutes before doors opened but they were totally cool about it and sat us a bit early. Also they put up a second umbrella at our table to block the sun. It was pretty warm day. Last but not least there's a full bar! I don't drink but my friends are mimosa fans =) Only other thing I'd note is that its a bar/cub at night so it has that type of decor but we actually really liked the vibe. This place by far is one of my favorite brunch places. Don't be deceived by the gloominess outside, you walk in and yeah it's kinda dark but wait till you eat the food. I think I may have tried everything on the brunch menu Bc I'm such a fatty but omg you can't go wrong ordering anything off the menu. Shrimp and grits is delicious. I find myself craving it during the week. Lol. My favorite is the chicken fried steak open faced sandwich. It is so delicious. Actually, everything is my favorite. The savory bread pudding is also my favorite and I find myself craving that as well. If you're not too full after all of that, I highly recommend getting the flourless chocolate cake. Wow! I just had an amazing weekend thanks to BRIX 581. I graduated from Skyline HS in 2006 and we couldn't decide where to have our ten year reunion. Luckily, we found BRIX! The location is snuggled right outside of Jack London. The nice painted walls compliments the random brick walls throughout the facility which makes this place original. The patio is amazing-trimmed with Christmas lights and decked out with an outdoor DJ booth. Win-win. For the reunion, we ordered jambalaya and Mac and cheese for our guests. The jambalaya was everybody's favorite. The mac and cheese was delicious too, but it was more like a penne pasta than a traditional Mac and cheese. Stephanie (one of the owners) was super helpful in the planning process. She made sure that our needs were met. She did an awesome job accommodating our tight budget. Such a wonderful experience. After our reunion, EVERYBODY raved on how much they enjoyed it! It wouldn't have been possible without BRIX and their wonderful crew. read more

Ahh I hate to do this, but I've heard of this place after they hosted a queer party there once. I missed the party but went in for brunch the first time. THE FOOD WAS BOMB, but the service was shitty. It took forever to get seated, get drinks, get food. The service is really what bugged me. I dug that they had a dj start playing some raggae half way through my experience there. I think if they add the DJ through the entire brunch, that would be awesome. Bc the food was bomb (and I was hoping they'd have music again), I gave it another shot and again, BOMB FOOD, shitty service. If they can get their service together, this spot could really be a hit.
