Finally made it here for brunch today! Wow! The food was amazing and the drinks were great too. The watermelon mimosa! yummy times. I had the waffle with pork belly and my husband had the loco moco. Both looked/tasted great and hit the spot. I also tasted the fried green tomato eggs Benedict that my friend had and it too was fab. Well I've been to Boriquen Soul and the service and food was amazing. Since then they moved in to this location I thought I would expect the same results. I told my friends that the food was great so we went and I was excited. We had to walk over to the bar to tell the server that we are ready to order they took their time to attend us. We ordered the "puerto Rican rice" (with gandules) the food took forever and the rice didn't even have gandules in it none of the orders has them. The platanos were stale the garlic chicken was ok but they shouldn't put the "Mayoketchup"sauce on it. I was shocked with the service now I will have to just cook my own Puerto Rican food. read more

As many have stated before me, Brix has some of the most amazing food on Sunday. I come here just about every weekend and have a great time. The staff is friendly, the food is great and the day parties on the patio are the perfect way to end the week. Also a big fan of the sound system in both dance areas! Noticed recently they upgraded the top floor to some really nice EV QRX Subs, I personally love anything EV! Make sure to come early that way you can get anything you like off the menu, they do sell out of a lot of stuff by about 1pm on the busier days. Don't worry about parking as there is plenty of close by open spots every time I'm here. read more

So, I went to Brix for the first time, to an event the other night. Sadly, I have to say; it was unimpressive. My issue was around the fact that I never got my food. The event was one that required the online purchase of a ticket and selection of a dish from the menu. I had my ticket with me. They began serving the food shortly after I arrived; I checked with the server to make sure they got my order, but the young man was half way non-responsive; giving me a lackluster response, something to the effect of "talk to the person in the kitchen". The woman in the kitchen asked me to wait 10 minutes as they already started service. I waited, then asked one more time about when my plate was coming; but only got several more excuses. Two hours later, and after sitting and watching everyone (literally) get their food, I still had'not (you guessed it), received my plate. I sat at the table for the entire event watching the same server walk by me, time after time, one dish after another, still no food for me. So, I have no idea what the food was like at Brix, but I can say, with strong disappointment, that the service was uncaring, inattentive, disorganized, just horrible. read more

Might have to give this place another try. I heard it was a great place, but my experience was far from great... albeit, not terrible. Service was ok - nice people, but there seems to be no urgency on anybody's part. Food was ok, but I heard from so many people it was the bomb. Love Brix and lalalala love Stephanie! I met Stephanie way back before Brix at Lounge 3411 almost 10 years ago (Wow time flies)! Her and her husband know how to run business. I've had plenty of events here at Brix and 3411 and my friends and family always enjoyed them. Stephanie is more than just an owner, she's a host (hostess with the mostess). She's helped other small business owners and artists promo their services and work, provide space for the community and OMG the food is always bomb. The menu does change time to time which is great! Also, there are always different events that cater to everyone. You'll have no regrets stepping into Brix and making it your go to spot. In town for a few weeks for work, popped in for a meal and happy hour on a regular Wednesday afternoon. The food was canoas was great the maduros (sweet plaintain) were alright they weren't as sweet as I like but still good. The drink was decent, just wish the bartender made it stronger and they had good Latin music in the background. The bartender was telling me they have different things throughout the week. Wed night open mic comedy till around midnight, karaoke on the patio until about 130 and some fri/sat they host different parties upstairs as a club with different promoters. Reading the other reviews, I feel bad having to only grant this place 2 stars. Apparently working with the friendly co owner Stephanie would have made the experience totally different. What we got was no where near friendly. Here are the facts: - Reservations were made more than a week in advance for a birthday party - Over the phone, Stephanie was sweet and accommodating, assuring us that there would be a table outside for us with heat laps ready if necessary. And that a cake would be no problem to bring and serve. - When it got cold and we asked for the heat lamps, our waitress quickly shut that possibility down. When we explained that Stephanie said that would be an option we got a very patronizing, "well, Stephanie isn't here today. So of course she would say that. I'm here and we can't put the lamps on." -okay..... - There was a bug found in my brothers drink - 3 plates didn't come until after everyone else had finished eating - several other minor requests were shut down (one small dollop of hot sauce for the whole table? What? Waffle was cold, syrup was freezing) - they took all the dishes as soon as they could, which I thought was thoughtful until... - when it came to the cake, she tells us that the cake is waiting for us to grab around the corner so to grab it whenever, but also we don't have anymore plates.... No sorry, no accommodation. We even had to ask for at least some forks... - when it came to the bill.... I didn't even try to stick my hand into that , but the waitress waved us down about messing up the way she had it organized. Not that she ever explained the scribble on 3 pieces of paper. - and the bathrooms... Un-usuablly gross (the one women's toilet didn't flush but was still being used by several people) All in all the food was pretty good. If you go there for brunch the chicken fried steak is a winner. As is the shrimp and grits, and the banana waffle. Chicken and waffles needs to be developed more (it's 3 chicken wings on top of a waffle) The food saved the experience from being disastrous. read more

The food here is sooooo good!! The chicken and cheese empanadas are the best I've ever had!! The rice and beans are sooo flavorful, not spicy but rich and yummy. The staff is amazing the owner and chef came and talked to us about the menu items and you can tell the passion they have about the food. They really took care of me. They catered my son's baptism and everything went off without a hitch. The food was just as good as I remember Borinquen Soul. Stephanie contacted me at hours I wasn't used to, late at night, but that's when the place is open. Eric reached out a couple days before and the day of to make sure everything was good. The food was hot, well prepared and exactly what I ordered, with a couple extra pastelles thrown in that they really didn't have to do. Overall, a really good experience. read more

AWESOME spot to spend your weekend. Get a few drinks, hang out with some cool people, with the great DJ to provide the soundtrack to your Saturday night. Come back Sunday morning for their amazing brunch....and a mimosa or two to wash off last night's drinks :P. Tony and I love Steph and her bar 3411 (another awesome spot to check out!) so when she opened up BRIX for brunch, we couldn't say no to that combo! Tony got the country fried chicken steak, and I got the pork belly waffle. Both were decadent, VERY filling, and definitely hit the spot. Pork belly was a generous portion and cooked to perfection as it melts in your mouth. Didn't even need the butter! We also got a calamondin mimosa by recommendations of Steph and it was SO. GOOD. Very different from your usual mimosa with the calmondin fruit juice (tastes somewhere between a grapefruit/lemon/orange), we endorse its recommendation as well! All the staff are great and attentive. They have indoor and outdoor seating so it'll be nice way to relax on a warm day. She's promised us to look into making the outdoor area dog-friendly so we're pretty excited for that :). Can't wait to go back! read more

Had brunch here today with a friend and I am confident that it'll be the last time. When we walked in I quickly noticed that the bar took up most of the space, it was dark, and the music was loud. There were two sets of double doors that were propped open and led to a very small patio area with limited seating. There was also an upstairs area above the patio and I overheard one of the servers explaining that this establishment was a night club (which also explains the massive DJ setup on the patio) and they usually have a second bartender upstairs. Both my friend and I ordered the waffle that came with nothing but butter, creme fraiche, and house made jam and cost $8 (for one waffle). It took about an half hour for our waffles and the server brought over 3 party wings to apologize for the wait. The wings were burned and didn't have much flavor; however, the waffle was cooked well (crispy outside and fluffy inside), and the house made jam was delicious. The service as slow and the servers weren't very personable. The whole experience left little to be desired. Although the waffle was good, I wasn't impressed and could definitely find better spots to have brunch. read more

I went for the SKIN party and this amazing review wouldn't be complete without shouting out how awesome that particular party was. International beats and amazing souls in there dancing it out. This is THE spot to throw your party, drink, eat, OR do all of the above like I did! I was in desperate need of a venue to throw my man a surprise prom party for his birthday and I was told this was one of THE new spots to be at in Oakland! Luckily, I got in contact with the owner Stephanie the next day and was SO happy with how easy it was to communicate with her. She was able to give me THE BEST deal to rent the whole upstairs floor! I let her know my budget off top and she offered me an affordable breakdown of exactly what I wanted for the party. I was able to order surprisingly more than enough food and drinks to cover everyone that attended and still stayed within my budget. There was a bartender the whole night exclusively for our floor and she was hella sweet! She even offered to take pictures for everyone! The sesame soy wings with the garlic fries are the perfect pair and were HELLA good! Stephanie was even able to whip up a customized "spiked" punch I wanted to serve my guests last minute, which I truly appreciate! (I was originally supposed to make the punch but there was a misunderstanding and I did not have the ingredients to make it but she came through for me!) On top of that, she even opened earlier than normal hours for my family and I to decorate before the party! AND, she let my DJ spin the whole night! Everything that night went so smoothly and came out exactly how I wanted it! My man loved every single thing from the venue to the food and everything in between! I still have to come back to try their brunch menu and thank her again! I have come in to BRIX several times during different times and days of the week and it is always poppin! This place is awesome! I had a brunch for 18 people on Superbowl Sunday and everything went so smoothly. All of my guests ate their fill of delicious food and put back quite a few drinks haha. I had the Chicken Fried Steak, which was served biscuits and gravy style (and a fried egg!). My favorite brunch meal by far. After the brunch, the venue began their Superbowl party which was also really fun. They had house playing downstairs and hip hop playing upstairs. All the while they had the game playing throughout the place. Really cool vibes here, awesome menu, and the staff is super friendly. We were looking for new brunch spots to try out in the East Bay. Saw that this spot serves brunch on Sunday so dropped by for a visit. They have a patio, so it would be a nice spot to visit on a nice day. The inside is a bit dark (it's normally a bar) so if you're looking for a nicely lit place for brunch, this may not be your spot unless you hit their patio. They serve fried chicken & waffle, and fried pork belly & waffle. I opted for their fried pork belly & waffle since I've never had it. It comes with a giant piece of pork belly that's deep fried. The waffle was pretty good. The whole dish was delicious but very rich. So if you're looking for healthy food, this is probably not your spot. I love this place! It has two bars and two dance areas, one on an outside patio and one upstairs. They have awesome karaoke on Thursdays and dj and dancing on Saturdays. Love this place! This is gonna be my new Sunday brunch spot. Ordered the chop and eggs and it was amazing, the sauce they used was a nice combination..the kids loved the waffles and the wife devoured her chicken waffles which I tried myself and it was delish. Most important the service was spot on, everybody super nice especially Stephanie. Her daughter was our server and she surely takes after her Mom in personality and work ethic.
