This is my first review. I wouldn't be on here if this place didn't impress me. The real name of this place is Broad-Ray Battery. At first glance, this little place looks like an unassuming automotive store. In part it is, but what's surprising is that this place was able to sell me a hard-to-find (non-automotive) battery that I needed last minute. After spending hours searching five other stores in Portland, including other battery shops and camera shops, Broad-Ray was my last hope at finding a blocky VW-VBG130 camcorder battery. Walking into the store I thought that this would not be the place to find the Li-ion battery I was looking for. On the other hand, Broad-Ray is listed as a store that sells batteries of all kinds. At first, my hopes were low, seeing mainly car parts and car batteries in there, until I learned that they were able find the battery I needed. Apparently, their selection of batteries is quite large, they're all just not stocked in the store. I really needed the battery for an important shooting event up in Kingfield, ME, and Broad-Ray saved my butt. I bought two of them. I would have bought them online, but with the time crunch, my order would not have arrived to me in the mail in time. For Broad-Ray to get you that special (and unstocked) battery you need, you'll need to plan ahead in ordering it because they do get it shipped in from outside the state. Love these guys. -- no frills The first time I went here was due to my vehicle shaking. They called me to tell me I had a balance problem with my tires and that they couldn't help me and referred me elsewhere. Ray would not charge me... So I paid them in pastries from Mainly Grains across the street and they dove in to that box! The second time to get a service engine light looked at and have my ac checked. Again, they didn't treat me like a target that they could take for all my money and then some. Turned out my ac intake was broken (split in half) and they fixed it along with my sensor that went bad ... All for less than the dealer had quoted me for the sensor. I've had my ABS tone ring done as well. These guys are my first call now for anything related to my vehicle. As a side note: this is a true shop. It isn't spic and span. The guys have grease on their hands because they are working. If you want a sterile environment this isn't the place. If you want to spend your money at a local shop where people work hard and treat you right; this is it. read more

I had a wonderful experience at BroadRay Battery! Stopped in South Portland after the battery light on my 1996 Honda Accord came on. I was referred to Ray by the people at AutoZone, and he immediately ordered a new alternator and installed it early the next morning. He took less time than he expected, and called as soon as he was done. He only charged me for an hour of labor, and he ordered a part with a lifetime warranty.
