I decided to leave it, and set it back on its shelf. The owner then came over and started scolding me like I was a child for playing the music box. I apologized, but he started yelling at me and continued to follow me and my family through the store and berate us. At one point my mother put her hand slightly up and told him "we get it, we understand," and that is when he started to get aggressive, started yelling even more loudly at us, and he put his hand aggressively in my face. I did not feel safe, and I told him "we are happy to leave" and my family and I left as he continued to become more agitated. It was actually very shocking, uncomfortable, and disappointing. I would not recommend any woman shop in this store, alone or with others, and that any men who respect women not shop here either.

Sometimes it's a matter of available space and sometimes it's how the space is used. Only a very few I've visited can organize space to make it feel more department store than a thrift shop. GIA is a huge store, for what it is, with nearly everything you'd find in a department store. Clothes, of course, and shoes, sorted by size. Children's clothes and toys, Christmas decorations, books, CDs, vinyl, DVDs, kitchen utensils, lamps, appliances, furniture, and miscellaneous. They've done a good job using items donated to delineate the areas and although there's only one separate room it feels like at least three. The prices are reasonable, and from time-to-time GIA will have a sale of sorts where you can fill your cart for a flat price. All the items I saw were in good condition, worn, but not trashy. Gratitude in Action uses the money from the store for their mission of support for recovery and sober living and giving people in recovery a chance to be independent.

It's a great store, filled (although I'd call it "crammed") with kids clothing, toys, books and shoes for infants and small children. Things are sorted by size but if you're overwhelmed when you stop in, a helpful employee will ask some questions and then either take you or point you to the right area. Once you figure things out, you'll quickly realize the store is incredibly organized and remarkably clean considering the volume of clothing. Immediately as you enter are the seasonal items, on this visit. the holiday colors and outfits for babies and toddlers. Precious Seconds is a thrift store, although the prices are only slightly less than retail -- at least on some items. The toys and books are in good condition, some only slightly worn. While there are clothes for the expectant parent, including some gorgeous dresses, that isn't the focus. It's the clothes and shoes that bring them in. Everything I looked at was in almost-new condition. While I was not able to attend the sale in person, my step-sister did stop by to drop off some needed items and she told me how incredible the whole place looked in preparation for the sale. I was able to view your website which featured a few pictures of the inside of the home but I know the pictures were just a small piece of all the work that went on behind the scenes. In the event you do use this as a reference letter, I would like to take a few lines to highlight to the reader what transpired behind the scenes during this estate sale. * This was originally supposed to be a two sale - Friday and Saturday - but ended up a five day sale over the course of two weekends * All glassware was washed, cleaned and professionally displayed * The prices were within reason of what the items would have brought in an antique mall * Communications leading up to and during the sale were really good. We always knew what was going on I could go on and on with this list but I think the reader gets the point. Debbie runs a first class operation with Estate Dispersal Service (EDS). If you are looking to go elsewhere, please be sure to ask the others * How will they handle security at the site during the sale? * Will customers be allowed to pay with a credit card? The fee charged by EDS is not that out of line when you compare the whole package with what others are trying to do. I know we were hesitant at first but it all was worth every penny that we paid. I have been to many EDS run sales in the past so I know they can be a little abrupt but dealing w/us bargain shoppers might be rough sometimes so I have always cut some slack. This poor treatment happened the day after the sale was official over so the heat of the haggling is no excuse. I was actually on my way to pick up my so called "winning bid" item (they had called me the night before to tell me) when I received a 2nd call telling me the item had been sold out from under me. I was shocked in to silence so she took that opportunity to rudely tell me they can do that if they want. Wow, rudeness on top of a shady deal. I understand that they want the best price for their customer but the sale was over, my bid was accepted, & I was in route to picking it up so I don't think it should still be considered available. The bid card was a binding sale agreement that I signed so why don't they have to honor it? From their website - "Our hallmark is experience and integrity". They may have experience but I really beg to differ on the integrity! At the same sale they took all the items away from another customer because they were insulted by an offer made on one of the items. While it is totally their right to refuse service being so rude can't be good for anybodies bottom line be it theirs or the estates. It could end up keeping people away from future sales so the estates will lose out on money along with this business. They seem to forget that the people buying the items are customers also and they might not want to treat us so poorly. If I could give them negative stars I would. I am even giving thought to adding a note in my will that my heirs use anybody BUT them.

After almost every store in town we didn't expect to find anything the size or quality level we were looking for. No matter, Sydney showed us the Stressless things we can no longer afford and then sent us to the sale room in the back with a suggestion of what we might like. I did get to tell management what we thought of Sydney, but it bears repeating. She is a gem. There is it was, a medium sized, real leather covered, obviously well built sofa on sale at a price we could afford. They had it in stock with or without the sleeper option! The warehouse loaded us up, telling me what would be required to unpack and put the feet on. We are very happy and would buy more if we could. You never know... Some day we might go back for those recliners.

While the primary customers of Kennedy's are churches, they do accept some commissions. I spoke with one of the main stained glass artists who, together with the owner, display examples of their work. I learned a lot about stained glass artistry. It's as fascinating as I had imagined. They don't teach classes here (too bad), but I was given some suggestions on places where I might find some. The glass is from a supplier in Colorado, there's a regular catalog ( a stained glass catalog -- who knew?) to order different colors, textures and sizes. Every year Kennedy's creates a stained glass ornament for the holiday. It's a unique memento.
