I had to get back to work and I don't like scary movies as well as other kids I had to go get after work. Ridiculous. I'm especially not going to blast my other children's family drama and being under my guardianship because of their parent's choices for everyone to hear. Do better. It's a movie.

It's such a unique film festival experience and its such a great town. The films are incredibly well curated, the people involved are uncommonly kind and fun, the town is adorable, supportive and WALKABLE, and the festival is the perfect size to make it feel like you've all gone to film camp for 5 days. And you don't have to be a film geek to have a ball! My 28 year old sister and my 55 year old mother both had a great time and neither are students of film, but both enjoyed the temporary 5-day community that they got to feel a part of. Did I mention WALKABLE? No shuttles or buses to catch. Kinda unheard of when it comes to most festivals. For the full experience, I would recommend: 1) Go see some shorts! Its so rare you get to see shorts in a theater, I highly recommend taking advantage the opportunity. And there are some incredible story tellers that show their work there. 2) Go out to the designated after hours spot at least one of the nights. Tons of folks gather there, including filmmakers, volunteers, staff and film-goers. The conversations there are rich, passionate, inspiring and authentic. 3) Take advantage of the "Talks". There are some great panels that are fantastic opportunities to learn and hear about independent filmmaking. Always a highlight of the festival. 4) See a film at the Armory. There's great food there and it's actually kind of a cool place to see a film. 5) See a film in one of the really small theaters~ there aren't many places you can go to a theater that is that small.

I ended up watching Halloween 2, which sucked, but this review is about the theater so let's move on. The presentation was very good, the theater has been updated to modern sound and projection system. The interior of the auditorium was very clean and the chairs were comfortable. I was the only patron that day, so the owner gave me a small tour of the projection booth and we chatted for a bit. I think it is great that she manages to keep the theater open in such a small town. If you are staying in Burney, I recommend checking the theater out and supporting this great local business!

She told us about the movies and that one of them was supposed to start at 4 (it was about 410 when we got there) and let us know that if we wanted to watch that one, they would start it up for us...because no one had shown up for that movie, it hadn't already started. There were two matinee movies showing: the new Hamnet and the 1996 version of Romeo and Juliet. That's pretty neat that they have an older and a newer matinee offering. We decided to watch Romeo and Juliet. The seats were comfortable and they'd apparently recently added tables and told us we could bring our own food in for a $5 charge and eat it at the tables. We didn't do that but what a cool idea. We did grab some snacks from there and sat in front of a table and enjoyed the extra legroom. It was an enjoyable experience. Nice clean theater and bathrooms and very friendly staff.
