This was the first time I had ever run into the need for getting something upholstered. My aging motorcycle seat was seventeen years old and had 50k miles of use, and it was starting to tear in a couple of places just from age. I had considered just buying a new seat, but figured I should at least investigate the cost of just getting it recovered. I did some research and found Broadway Upholstery here in Gainesville. I have driven past the place countless times as it is on one of my routes between home and work, but never realized it was even there. I will chalk that up to it just being a place that I have never needed before, so it doesn't fit into my visibility. So I went in and talked to the guys there, showed them the seat, and they said it would not be a problem and gave me a quote that I found to be quite reasonable. Brought the seat in the next day, and they had it recovered in a couple of hours. I also looked at some of the other work that they were doing in the workshop, and their craftsmanship was excellent. It looks as good as new! The vinyl covering is thicker than it was originally, which means it should last at least as long as the original did. I came in around 4pm well before closing looking to have my saggy headliner replaced. Nobody at front desk, heard two guys talking in the back so rang doorbell after standing for a minute. They simply ignored it so I walked out. Won't bother stopping by again or calling as I don't believe they deserve my business. read more

I had a stock motorcycle seat on my Indian scout. I took the seat to Broadway upholstery and they did a fantastic job of customizing the seat with memory foam and gel padding To make the sea enjoyable to sit on for extended rides. They also made the seat taller so I could see over the top of my windshield. Overall the workmanship the time that it took to get it done and the final product are excellent. Just took my Acura for the second time to get the leather fixed. Not too thrilled that this Acura leather keeps ripping as I take very good care of my car. The back of the seat and the console had ripped up pretty good. Went to see Al for the second time, and again, a delightful experience. The seat and console look perfect and in fact, the leather he replaced it with looks way more durable, and the color is a perfect match! I pre paid $187.50 and Todd made an appointment for Sat. No one showed up. Someone answered at 10:30a while I was getting an alignment. The guy (Not Todd) said I was not on the schedule. I said I was and I prepaid and asked if he was going to come in and do the work. He said he was not going to come in. I asked him to refund my money. He said I have to come in Monday. Well I work M-F for a living. So I talked to Todd Monday and here come the standard idiot excuse, "I was in an accident" same BS excuse the inept give. I told him to just refund my charge. Todd said "I will let my secretary know and call you back". Do you think he called? I knew it was BS, I'm pretty sure there was no secretary. I had never done business with these guy, a friend at work told me about them .When I called to make a appointment to repair my driver side seat man said just leave it out front and drop key in box if you get here before we do.I was a little concerned about doing that but did .I return at 5pm later that day and seat was covered with new material and it looked great,I would give a 10 star if i could. First class operation! Today I had my headliner replaced. I did not have an appointment and they took me anyway. Wow! I have a BMW Mini Cooper and it's no easy job to work on that car. I was recommended to Broadway Upholstery by "Carlos." I then made a couple of trips to the shop, including to select fabric for the replacement of a sagging headliner in a used Jaguar sedan that I planned to purchase from Carlos. Like a lot of women, fabric colors and textures matter to me, too. That's why I took the time (but what's time to a girl, right?) to visit Broadway Upholstery in person, to see -- and to touch -- upholstery fabrics available there. I assumed -- mistakenly, as it turned out -- my preference would matter to the owner of this shop. When I arrived, I was greeted by a Hispanic man who is so charming, when he shook my hand, I felt like I was being greeted by Pit Bull. He showed me his choice for the headliner -- a nappy fabric in an anaemic shade of beige. Although some women somewhere might like beige, I have never met one who does, and I don't like beige, either. Nor did I like the fuzzy texture of the fabric he recommended. Altogether, the ugly color and fussy texture brought to my mind a man cave from the 1970s. (I can't imagine that the real Pit Bull would choose anything so hideous!) I asked to see other fabrics -- in shades of pale gray or pale blue, to complement the silver-blue exterior of the car. The Pit Bull look alike then showed me a few fabrics in various shades of gray, all with a more sleek texture than the nappy beige he had suggested. He did not have many fabric choices available in his shop, but he offered to order whatever I liked. Unwilling, however, to wait the few days for any other fabric to be delivered, I chose the palest shade of gray he had in stock. I also inquired about the cost, but he said the change in fabric made no difference in the $320 estimate he had already provided for the new headliner. He said his estimate took into consideration all adjustments related to the sunroof. Despite everything, when I left Broadway Upholstery that afternoon, I had a nagging sense that something had been misplaced in cultural translation, so I turned around and went back to the shop to request a swatch of the sleek, pale-grey fabric I had selected. The Pit Bull look alike immediately provided the swatch, along with a winning grin, and I put aside my sense that something was not as it ought to be. But a few days later, Carlos told me to stick with the beige fabric initially recommended. I had no doubt about my preference for the headliner fabric, but I wondered whether Carlos' overbearing, second-guessing of a woman's plainly stated choice might be a Hispanic thang. When I later met with Carlos to purchase the car, I was outraged to discover that the ugly, nappy, fussy beige fabric -- which I had rejected -- was, without any warning, used for the new headliner. By this time, financing for the car was already arranged, so I went ahead with the purchase. But I wanted to take a minute, anyhow, to warn any other women who might be in search of automobile reupholstery: if you love it when men waste your time and ignore your -- repeatedly stated -- preferences, arrogantly presuming to choose FOR YOU whatever THEY imagine to be BEST FOR YOU, doing so without even telling you what they are presuming to do on YOUR BEHALF, by all means then: bring your business to Broadway Upholstery, where a handsome, Pit Bull look alike will flirt shamelessly while he turns a totally deaf ear to the business that, UNFORTUNATELY FOR YOU, brought you into his shop. It really seems that, at Broadway Upholstery, female customers are regarded as stupid marks who can be easily duped with a little -- or a lot -- of charm. But don't take my word for it; another, earlier Yelp review of Broadway Upholstery (wish I'd seen it before) is provided by another woman who, like me, was also dissatisfied (to be very ladylike about it) with the slapdash workmanship she, too, encountered at Broadway Upholstery. I bought a new truck and after they did the work I noticed a tear in the leather, took it and the owner said he woulf fix it, after NUMEROUS calls with no results I gave up which is what they wanted, also watch out when they remove trim they like to break the trim instead of properly removing it and then when you find it they say dont worry we will just use GORILLA glue to fix it, This was on a brand new truck BEWARE OF BROADWAY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! read more
