I recently went to see Dr Broberg for the first time after going to an optometrist and after a long office visit I was told my vision could not be corrected in my right eye and they didn't know why. After being examined by Dr Broberg and receiving a new prescription my vision is corrected and I can see better than ever. The doctor was amazing on diagnosing my correction and finding out why my vision had changed. I would highly recommend him from my experience. read more

I see Dr MacGlathery and I'm very impressed with him. He's a bit unorthodox in his demeanor but I find him humorous and engaging. He's very knowledgeable and explains everything. Hopefully someday there will be a cure for my dry eye. read more

First off, Dr. Broberg is fantastic and has always been a great provider. I first sought out Dr. Broberg because of his stellar credentials and his specific experience dealing with macular degeneration which my mother has. I have amblyopia and an astigmatism so the deck is stacked against me and I wanted to get the best ophthalmologist possible. He is rated as a Texas Super Doctor for about the last 20 years straight. Unfortunately, dealing with his office staff is quite challenging. There is no way to make appointments electronically. I've called recently and spoken to the front office 3 times about an appointment. They NEVER follow up. Sadly, I will have to seek care elsewhere. I gave 3 stars because of the difficulty dealing with the front office, but once you get to Dr. Broberg, he is 5 stars and beyond. read more

Well, I am officially old. I finally had cataract surgery. One eye is done at a time and yesterday was my second eye's turn. I have been severely nearsighted most of my life and with the removal of the cataracts and insertion of new lenses, I see like a champ. Dr. Broberg was my surgeon and it was a very successful procedure. He is kind and efficient and knows his stuff. I can see well for reading and for distance and am very happy with the outcome! Office reception staff needs additional training on communication skills and proper customer service ASAP. Serious lack of social distancing measures in place. Another practice (Austin Retina) on the same floor of the same building has a screening procedure in place before allowing patients to enter their office, but Broberg Eye Care chose NOT to implement a protocol (& there is no screening upon entering the building). There were four different parties sitting in the tiny Broberg office waiting area upon my arrival, and this was after I was told that appointments had been appropriately spaced out to avoid that situation. Specifically, I asked if it was possible to wait in the vehicle until dr. office was ready for my appointment, and they said that they could call me when it was my turn, but it wouldn't even be necessary because of the way that they were scheduling. Dr. De Sabra is outstanding. She is personable, understanding, explains things well and offers practical solutions like using different readers instead of paying for a prescription. Would give zero stars for front office. I visited this office and the receptionist demanded I make a payment of over 90 dollars. When I told her I have already met my out of pocket max for the year and I have no co-pays anymore, she left and returned, lying to me that I still had to pay 18 dollars because they are not an in network provider. This was curious but I paid, I did not want to argue, but I should have, because I knew my wife had checked that they are in network, or else I would not have gone to them as they are not my regular provider. My insurance of course covered the bill and confirmed to me I have zero responsibility but I am not able to obtain the refund. My wife left some messages for someone named Amanda, only for the calls never to be returned and they have not refunded my money. read more

As other patients have said, do not go to this practice. My left eye is very blurry, and I went to them to see if it was time to remove the cataract. Instead, Dr. Broberg gave me a standard eye exam and prescribed glasses. When I asked when the cataract would be severe enough to remove, he said, "It may be one month, it may be four years." Well, which is it? I never got a direct answer to my question. read more

My low rating is 100% for the administrative staff. My insurance card said I had a copay, I was expecting a copay but at the time of service was told that I had a deductible. I know insurance if wonky and agreed to pay because maybe they bill as a facility and not a regular doctor office. Once my EOB came back, it showed copay. I tried 3 times over 2 weeks to get a hold of someone in billing and no one returned my phone calls. I called the main office to see if I had a credit on my account, was told that I did not. Finally was able to reach someone through the portal and received a rude response. There was no apology for overcharging, acknowledging their mistake or wonky insurance practices or even reasoning for why they collected up front. I will not be returning to this practice because customer service, especially around insurance claims, is important and they can do better. read more

BEWARE!! They say they accept your insurance on assignment, meaning they will not expect payment above what your insurance allows. NOT TRUE. I have paid the total they charge for refraction and not been reimbursed for the difference when insurance claim is processed, defining a lesser amount. They claim I am not due any sum and subsequent repeated phone calls to the office are ignored. Their services are fine but I DISTRUST their accounting practices. I have moved to another optometrist, who only charged me for the amount allowed by my insurance. read more

The one star review is absolutely in agreement with others here re: the administrative staff. Never - ever - have I had a medical practice bill the wrong insurance company for my visit. Well, it happened here. My insurance company changed in the new year, and I had written confirmation from Amanda - the billing person - that all was well with my new insurance. My new insurance is listed on their web patient portal for me, yet, stupidly, Amanda sent the claim to my former insurance company. (All med offices where I have been prior always, always check coverage before a visit and know 100% the co-pay, deductible, etc.). The only reason I know Amanda filed incorrectly is that the former insurance company contacted me. I then contacted Amanda via the portal - twice - and NO RESPONSE. I then called the office - and they said she works remotely - so they left a message. CRICKETS. I then called again, spoke to Karina - who said "Amanda doesn't see messages on the portal." Ok - so why is "Billing" a recipient option on the portal? And why has she sent me several emails prior? They told me to write to Amanda's gmail, which I did. I gave notice that the ball is firmly in their court if they want to be paid for my visit. If they can't get it together to bill the correct insurance company, they deserve to get stiffed. I've also spent a considerable amount of time on this - doing their job. Huge time suck. All that said, Dr. Settle is amazing. Love this guy. Very thorough doctor. When I see him next I will tell him how horrible the admin of his office is. read more

There are doctors in this practice other than Dr. Broberg, who are good and considerate of diverse patients. See them, and do not fill your prescription with the optometrist on the same floor! They gave me the wrong prescription for $490 and did not give me the "gift package" they were giving other clients; the tech man would not touch my glasses or fit them on me (prior to COVID), and I felt totally uncared for; bad places for Latinos. read more

On this day of Giving Thanks for what we are Thankful for I would like to Thank Dr. Broberg and his staff for my vision or more simply my ability to see out of my left eye today. Last weekend I woke up feeling like I had a Migraine isolated in my left eye. I had all the symptoms of a migraine in my eye severe light sensitivity, pressure pain and PAIN in my eye! After the Emergency Care clinic told me my eye condition was NOT Pink Eye and that I needed to go to an Opthamologists.... I goodsearched Opthamologists Austin and found Mary E."s Yelp review. I called and was able to get an emergency appointment the next day with Dr Broberg even giving the short week of Thanksgiving. My eye was diagnosed with Iritus. Dr Peter Broberg gave me a weeks worth of Durezol steroid sample (104.00 value) and his assistant was super helpful when I called worried about the side effects. And the emergency visit was only 105.00! read more

This is mainly a review for Dr. Settle, since I haven't met the other doctors. But Dr. Settle is a pleasure to visit! I've visited twice: once for a thorough eye exam, and once for pink eye. Both times, the front desk was able to get me in quickly. The receptionist was friendly and it was less than five minutes in the waiting room each time. Dr. Settle is charming and super friendly. He likes to explain what's going on, and does so in a really approachable, easy-to-understand matter. He enjoys teaching and answering questions. I felt completely at ease throughout the whole process. My only reason for not giving four stars is that on the eye exam, someone else did most of the work, including the phoropter and dilation. It might have been a NP, a nurse, a PA -- no idea. The same person that walked me back from reception was testing my vision. Only after she left did Dr. Settle come in. While she did fine, and it probably is efficient, I would feel much more comfortable having the doctor himself conduct the full exam. Otherwise, this place is stellar -- Dr. Settle is my new opthamologist! read more

Great doctors. I first visited Dr. Broberg and Dr. Settle some years ago when I had a tiny abrasion on my cornea which was causing me intense pain. The doctors got me sorted out and all fixed up. I've visited again since then for a couple of eye exams and (like Tara M.) a last minute appointment for Iritus (which I've had a couple times before). Good Docs. It is a sad day when I have to leave a review like this for a doctors office when the actual physician may not be aware of how his or her patients are treated. I'm leaving this eye practice after the 3rd and final time of a serious lack of caring and concern on the part of their front office. When I showed up this past week 4 minutes past their "15 minute cutoff" due to rain, accidents and heavy traffic, the woman at the front had zero regard for me-in fact she ignored me completely and proceeded to train a new employee to reschedule my appointment for another day or time. Even though I clearly was coming in before work that day-it's not easy to schedule appointments like this. What did I do when I had to wait over 30 minutes once to be seen? I waited. What happened when I had circumstances beyond my control and couldn't make it within their late window? I had to be rescheduled. So, after 8 years of being a patient here, I'm moving on. I will miss Dr. Settles but absolutely not his office staff. Hopefully they will experience this same level of treatment somewhere so that they can build some empathy for others. read more

Dr. McGlathery was thorough and explained what I could and could not have done and gave me hope. The receptionist and l the technicians were awesome and thorough. As much as I admire my physician Dr. De Sabra, I hate that I have to come to this very dysfunctional practice to consult with her. On my visit to the practice yesterday, I was yet again amazed by how rude the front office staff is. When I walked to the window, the receptionist asked me for my last name without any form or greeting. She did not even bother taking her eyes off her iPhone to look at me or establish Eye contact. when I gave her my insurance card, she informed me that they do not take my insurance. I told her I will pay cash but I would have appreciated it if this fact was related to me when I made the appointment on the phone. She Immediately snapped back that it is the patient's responsibility to make sure that the practice is on the insurance panel and it's not her responsibility. After consulting with my doctor whom I consider the best in Austin, I had to go through the same rudeness from the front office on way out. read more

I would give 0 stars if I could. I called to make an appointment to see an ophthalmologist and the front desk employees by the name of Kenia and Monica repeatedly hung up the phone on me and had me wait for extended periods of time. When I asked for the supervisor's information they did not want to give that to me so I had to press option 2 and speak to a surgery coordinator to get the manager's (Amanda and Mike)'s contact info. Upon writing a detailed report of the series of events that happened that led to a discussion between the front desk ladies and myself (for obvious reasons), they decided to believe their story and stated that they will be refusing to give me access to a medical professional. I called my insurance and they said that it's not right for them to do that, as every person should be able to get treatment. I will be writing a report to the board of doctors or the designated committee. I was treated like a second-class citizen the entire time. Unacceptable. read more

I've been seeing Dr. Broberg for seven years. I am a type one diabetic, so it's critical that I have an excellent opthomalogist. Well, Dr. Broberg is just that. He's performed two surgeries. Before I will allow anyone to operate, I must feel confident and relaxed. He did an amazing job. He is a wonderful doctor for a diabetic. About 4 or 5 years ago my husband had an eye emergency (woke up with double vision, caused by a bad chiropractor who worked on his neck!). Dr. Broberg came in on a Sunday morning to see my husband. He was very caring, calm, not expensive and made the accurate diagnosis. He now gets all our eyecare business and never disappoints. read more

I had a problem with my left eye for a few weeks. It did not seem to be getting any better. I tried several times to make an appointment with Dr. Broberg but his schedule was so busy that I would have to wait almost two months. Finally, I gave in and scheduled an appointment with Dr. Settle. I am so glad that I did. Dr. Settle was great! He examined my eyes and determined that it was probably just allergies. He gave me a sample of some drops and they immediately "calmed and soothed" my eye. I am very glad I went to see Dr. Settle. The staff was friendly, the forms were short and easy to fill in, the office was clean and pleasant. and there was lots of parking! read more

I went to see Dr. McGlathery and all I have to say is DO NOT SEE HIM. I had lost a contact so I needed a new contact prescription (I have hard contacts) and apparently in Texas they don't do the contact prescriptions at most ophthalmologists' offices, they only do it at optometrists' offices. Well, I gave him my previous contact prescription and he used it to write me a new prescription so I could go get my contacts, and then he spent about 20-30 seconds flipping the eye things to make sure...come to find out I've been charged an extra 25 dollars for the "glasses refraction test" (30 seconds or less of him flipping those eye things). Not only that, but also his bed manner was terrible. Not only did he make me feel like an idiot for going to an ophthalmologist for my contact prescription (I am from PA and have ALWAYS gone to ophthalmologists....I literally don't think I have been to an optometrist once in my life and I've been in glasses since the age of 5 and have had hard contacts since the age of 11), but also when I asked him how he was he ROLLED HIS EYES and said "just doing the doctor thing." I saw that as just so completely unprofessional and rude that it turned me off to him completely. All the other reviewers say that Dr. Borberg and Dr. Settle are great, and I'm sure they are so go see them, not McGlathery! read more
