After a very negative experience with another provider, I went back to my regular eye doctor, who referred me to Eye Physicians of Austin. I'm so happy she did. From the beginning, the experience was great. Communication before my appointment was clear, the office was easy to find with plenty of parking, and the clinic was clean, comfortable, and had ample seating. The staff completed all of the standard testing before I met with the doctor, and everything moved along efficiently. I saw Dr. Haumith Khan-Farooqi, and he was fantastic. He was kind, friendly, engaging, and listened to my concerns. I never felt dismissed or rushed. He explained my diagnosis, why surgery was recommended and what the next steps would be. As someone with anxiety, I really appreciated that he didn't brush off my concerns. Instead, he took the time to explain his experience with the procedure. That conversation really put me at ease, and I felt confident scheduling my pre-op appointment before I left. I was offered a sample of dry eye drops and a pair of sunglasses after my eyes were dilated (at checkout), neither of which had been offered at the previous provider. The front desk staff was very upfront about costs. They explained what their office would bill for and gave me the contact information, along with the diagnosis codes, so I could call the surgery center and anesthesiologist directly to get estimates for those costs. I really appreciated that transparency because I like to be an informed consumer and understand my financial responsibility before moving forward. My only suggestion is that after your eyes are dilated, you'll wait in a pretty bright waiting room. I recommend bringing your sunglasses inside with you just in case you have an extended wait in the waiting room. I accidentally left mine in the car so I sat with my eyes closed. This was the complete opposite of my previous experience. I left feeling heard, informed, respected, and confident in my care. I was a long term patient of Dr. Mark Plunkett until he retired. I've been treated numerous times for Grave's eye disease issues and he was recommended to me for follow up care. Dr. Plunkett was knowledgeable, thorough, and I really trusted him. I was assigned to Dr. Jack Li after Dr.Plunkett retired and had a miserable exam experience him which was careless and rushed. I suspected my script Rx because the exam was so hurried and had the script checked by another optometrist before I ordered new glasses. The script I got from EPA was way off. The EPA technician who initially examined me prior to seeing Dr. Li seemed bored and comatose and hardly paid any attention to me. I was alarmed when Dr.Li did not review her work like Dr. Plunkett always did. From start to finish, EPA did an extremely poor job. Beware. read more

I was referred to EPA for cataract evaluation by my optometrist and I have received excellent care from Dr Peter Wollan since November of 2023. Initially I was told that there was no rush to have the cataracts removed but if they became bothersome, don't hesitate to return and schedule cataract surgery. Well, recently they became very bothersome so I made an appointment with Dr Wollan for a cataract evaluation and then met with the surgery scheduler. I have just had the right eye cataract removed and scheduled to have left eye cataract surgery in a few days. I want to thank my Cornea Transplant Donor Family and my fabulous Cornea Specialist surgeon, Dr Ryg who is patient, conservative and brilliant. Warning: Do not use Dr. Vendal at Westlake Eye Specialists. Dr Vendall is impersonal and cold. She was rough and thoughtless during my first cataract surgery. Afterward, I was in so much pain that I cried every day. During my followup exam she said that my eye was fine and that I had no reason to be in pain. "Come back in two months." I told her that I could not handle this pain for two months. Bottom line is that she used so much pressure on my cataract that she permanently damaged my cornea. The office was not prepared to handle this situation. I went to four different specialists that said my cornea was swollen and not functioning. I have been a patient of this facility for over 20 years but have made the move elsewhere this year. Office staff and management is the worse. They are condescending, rude and I am pretty sure if the doctors actually spoke with patients, they would see it was time for an overhaul. I understand policy and procedures but when you have a question or dispute, they simply tell you, you have options and can go somewhere else. A direct quote from the office manager in DEC of 2025 over an under $50 dollar bill dispute. I tried to call back and get her boss and she absolutely wouldn't give me any direction for anyone higher up. I couldn't believe a manager had the audacity to speak to a customer like that but it sealed my decision to move on and NOT RECOMMEND this facility to anyone! Luckily my favorite doctor retired so the decision was even easier! Find another place. Customer service is now HORRIBLE!!!!! read more

I recommend Dr. Khan Farooqi. He has everything a patient could want in an ophthalmologist. He is kind, upbeat, patient, and brilliant. Even more importantly he is an amazing surgeon. He just did cataract surgery on my worse eye and I am thrilled to see perfectly out of it. Dr. Khan Farooqi promised me perfect vision and he delivered it. He has an amazing personality and he is as good as it gets as an ophthalmologist. He was trained at Harvard and he is the best of the best in every regard. His staff is great too, all professional and friendly like he is. I am so thankful that I was referred to Dr. Khan Farooqi by another ophthalmologist who told my wife that he is the best of the best. He got me the best lenses that give me perfect vision far, close and in between. I can't wait to get my other eye done. It takes about 8 minutes and you are sedated. The cataract surgery is stress free and no pain during or after. I had some other health problems and had to postpone the eye surgery three times. Dr. Khan Farooqi did three exams and was so understanding as he wanted to have the surgery done with a recent exam to get it perfect. He also did my wife's cataracts and her vision is perfect. I went to this place October 1st, 2025. Dr. Jack Li is who checked my eyes. I really didn't like the way he practiced. He took no more than 3 minutes to check both of my eyes. I was waiting for his comment, about this diagnosis, but did not say anything. This doctor seems mute; I had to pull the words out of his mouth and ask what he saw in my eyes, what's the problem and what was his diagnosis regarding my eyes. He mentioned something about cataracts, but he spoke so low that I couldn't understand him. He didn't explain exactly or openly what my problem was. Instead of him explaining to me in detail what my problem was, I had to ask him word by word what he found in my eyes. Honestly, at this moment, I don't know exactly what's wrong with my eyes. I really didn't find him very convincing. I believe that the only thing he wants is to operate, regardless of whether the patient really needs surgery. The only thing he cares or concerns about is money, and nothing more... I regret going to this place. I wish another doctor had examined me, NOT HIM. I just wasted my time and the money I pay for the Uber. I don't recommend this place. read more

I wanted to say great things about this office because of Dr. Dai. I've been a patient with him for years. However, I anxiously made the decision to move my records elsewhere since I have Corneal Vascularization and it has been successfully treated by Dr. Dai in the past two years. This horrible review is primarily for the office staff and business in general. Unfortunately, they messed up my prescription in one eye and I'm seeing blurry and I have called them numerous times to talk to my doctor to see what was going on. Two times they said they'll call me back and NOTHING. I had to keep calling back with the same message over and over. It's been 4 months now and i'm giving up and moving on. After permanently moving to Austin, going to see my eye doctor only when I go back to Houston was becoming less and less sustainable. I found EPA through a recommendation and have had several appointments at this point. So far, everything has been really great. My eye sight isn't the best, so I've had a wide variety of tests throughout the years. EPA uses modern tech, and all the doctors are very knowledgeable and friendly. My main doctor is Dr. Ryg, and he has been really nice, straightforward, and willing to answer all of my questions. So far has not tried to push me to do anything that wasn't required. EPA has also been handling COVID pretty well. I was a bit unsure about booking an appointment there due to a big chunk of the other patients being high risk, but I felt pretty comfortable and safe while I was there. There's someone on the first floor that confirms your appointment, gives you hand sanitizer, and checks your temperature. Once everything checks out, she'll call the elevator for you. In the waiting room, chairs are blocked off so that you're either six feet apart or back to back with the other patients. Hand sanitizers available on every desk. All the doctors and staff are wearing N95 masks. read more

I told them that they were an in network provider with my insurance company. I called my insurance company and was told that Eye Physicians of Austin was in network. My insurance company called Eye Physicians of Austin, and offered to send them verification of coverage. Eye Physicians of Austin refused to accept any verification from the insurance company. Dr Dai is incredible as well as the staff. I got something in my eye and it became swollen. The next day I was leaving on an international trip and had to get my eye looked at. I decided to take a leap of faith and go to the Doctors office on Burnet Rd. I asked the intake staff if anyone could please see me as my flight was in the afternoon. Poor communication, hard to get return phone calls. Have been referred out twice, then they neglect to send records to the MD they'd like you see! In the medical world, some specialists won't even see you or make an appt unless they have said records. Today's specialist didn't receive my records, when I contacted EPA the person tried to tell me I needed to sign a release. This is incorrect , it's called "continuity of care" , your EPA physician called this specialist-Dr to Dr and requested I be seen. What a joke of a business. I made an appointment for a Chalazion removal a month ago and was allocated to Dr. Dai. Now three days before my scheduled appointment, I receive a call that Dr. Dai does not specialize in anything related to Stye/Chalazion and in fact there is only ONE doctor who does (the receptionist 'thinks'). I did my research and this establishment came up multiple times for Chalazion / Stye removal so unsure why they have reviews if only one Dr actually knows wtf I'm talking about. Safe to say, Yelp reviews are not accurate. This business has a reputation of cancelling on patients days before and now I know why. So I went back to their website and sent a regular email inquiring about my New Patient submitted form. Still nothing from them--no email or phone call. When your first attempt at contact fails after multiple attempts one has to wonder what is going on with this practice. If you're going to use your website to further your business then you need to respond promptly to customers. I have been going to Eye Physicians of Austin for many years. It's pretty much always been a frustrating combination of long waits and friendly and professional staff. I was concerned about the safety of going for an eye exam during the Covid-19 pandemic and almost cancelled my scheduled appointment. However I decided to go and this morning I arrived a few minutes early for my 9:40 appointment. I then waited 35 minutes in the waiting room, before deciding that this prolonged exposure to mostly elderly patients was probably a health risk not worth taking and I left. It's unclear how much longer I would have had to wait. I'm not sure why I wasn't advised when I came in, or preferably notified earlier by phone, that there was going to be a long, and potentially dangerous wait. I would advise not going to Eye Physicians of Austin during the pandemic. The chronic wait times, and institutional disregard of patient's time, are more than just annoying they are dangerous. read more

This place feels almost like visiting a spa instead of a doctors office. The staff is so friendly and they actually acknowledge you when you are at the front desk. It drives me crazy when receptionists won't even look at you at a doctor's office. The office is also very nice, clean and relaxing. I had my appointment today and Dr Dai's Clinic runs on time which is nice. It's nice to not have to wait 30 minutes to get called back and then sit another 30 minutes in a room before seeing the doctor. They run like a well oiled machine. All of the back office staff was super nice too (which helps when having drops and lights in your eyes). I can't imagine ever going to an optometrist or another eye doctor. read more

Let me begin by saying, I've been a long time customer for about 15 years. My first doctor was Dr. Thorne (love him)! It's been a near, yes a year since I've had an annoying problem with BOTH eyes. It all began over a year ago when I decided I wanted colored contact lenses. What's so unusual about this? NOTHING. I went got them and promptly broke out in an eye infection in both eyes. It was diagnosed wrongly by Dr. Peter Ryg who examined me in the contact lense chair. They couldn't figure out what was wrong with my eyes and thought I had an allergic reaction to the solution. My normal doctor is Peter Wollan who wasn't available. But this year long journey had some really weird stuff and terrible customer service which rapidly got rid of my warm and fuzzies about this office. Fast forward: I saw Drs. Ryg, Farouki and Wollan numerous times and my eye problem was never been resolved. I might add I have spent hundreds of $$ on copays and prescriptions which haven't worked. Dr. Wollan is (was) my favorite doctor and asked me what I thought were inappropriate questions / suggestions in front of an intern!! Yes, I am an older woman and I was shocked by his questions, but I went along. Mind you, I wanted it resolved... I had been going to this office for my eye surgery, etc for years and never had a problem. My last conversation with Dr. Wollan was on the phone when he said, "I got nothing" (meaning he didn't know how to resolve my eye problems) and that I could call him back if I wanted to...what for??) He seemed irritated that I was still having the problem. I can't tell you how much $$ I spent for visit after visit and still not resolved...I even drove to Houston (recommended by Dr. Wollan) to see another doctor and still no resolution. I've been thinking about all this, and it seems like such a money grab sometimes. Yes, just keep on coming in and paying $$ and they will string you along...and still no resolution. I don't usually write reviews, but I think this one is long overdue. and yes I am aware of HIPAA and know you can't discuss my issues here, but its so damn hard to speak to a human being when you call in! I have been coming here since I moved to Austin in the 1970's. I began seeing Dr. Rock and then Dr. Thorne. I was constantly getting a sales pitch for corrective surgery/LASIK or whatever the procedure of the day happened to be at the time and I really just wanted to get my eyes examined and get contacts. Then they tried to get me to wear monovision contacts meaning one eye is used for distance and one for close up. This is supposedly in lieu of bifocals which I did not want. I just wanted distance contacts and use 1.5 readers for reading when reading something small. But every time I got a pair of contacts they would order the monovision prescription. I finally took them back and made them order my distance prescription as I wasn't going to pay for what I told them I did not want. In addition they always say they will call you when your lenses come in but they never do. They no longer will have them mailed directly to your home like they used to do and they try to charge you for the shipping of the lenses to them even though you have to go pick them up. It got to the point where I would have to see a different doctor all the time because it would take forever to get in to see whoever I had seen previously. I had been seeing Dr, Buckingham for quite a while but she ran for legislature (and won) and last time I saw her she was not at all friendly and seemed uninterested in my questions. So I saw Dr. Dai once and liked him fine but they ordered the monovision contacts again. I took them back and made them order the distance ones yet again. Each time I go, I pay my copay as I have vision insurance. I pay my portion of my contact lens charge as I get a new pair every year since they are not the disposable ones. And each time they send me a bill and also bill my insurance for the same lense charges (in other words they double bill). Then I call them and tell them and they keep sending me bills until I finally threaten them with a BBB report and they finally stop. They always say it is an error but it happens every year. I wonder how many people just pay the bills they send out that they don't owe just because they don't keep track. This year it happened yet again and I told them I wasn't going to come there anymore because of this. They did not act like they even cared and again told me it was an error. This year the contacts went up from $55 a pair to $80 each which is ridiculous. They say the contacts I wear cannot be ordered on my own as they come from a small local lab in Round Rock, but I don't believe them. This review is already too long and covers only some of the problems I have had with them over the years. Why I have gone there so long is something I cannot answer, habit I guess. But I decided to break the habit and find another opthamologist. Bad customer service has caused the loss of a more than loyal customer after 40 plus years. read more
