I probably come here at least once a month because the food is consistently fresh and delicious!…read moreThey have a list of their specials for the week upon entering. Their menu is extensive and the portions are truly generous. And I still appreciate the unlimited complimentary fresh, hot tortilla chips and in-house made salsa that is served to the table right away. The service is always stellar! The staff is efficient, friendly, and professional. It's a great location for a quick bite and great for groups. They can accommodate large parties and special occasions. They have a full bar area and full drink menu if you want to partake in alcoholic beverages or other libations. Don't forget to save room for dessert, take your picture with the Angel's wings on your way out or purchase some of the cool merch near the front entrance area.

Who goes to a crowded restaurant on Cinco de Mayo? Well me and family do lol…read more We went to Mr. Gordo's Tacos & Cantina in Fleming Island off the 17 and it was a good time. I was shocked by the wait only being at 5 minutes for 3. Yay I love that! Before we start let me sip my margarita. I had the iced peach margarita and my husband had the frozen watermelon margarita. Now the ambiance was very nice! Very colorful and bright nice paintings on the wall. People were doing karaoke the music was going and the DJ was good! I was dancing at my table and eating and having a grand ole time! We had a great server name Gus that was extremely nice and patient with us as we were deciding on what we wanted. We started off with chips and salsa and normally I'm not a big fan of salsa with chunky veggies in it but surprisingly it was good. To order my son had the kids soft chicken taco with rice and beans. My Husband was BIG HUNGRY! He had a carne asada taco salad that looked extra yummy. He also had 4 Mexican street tacos 2 of them were carne asada and the other 2 were Al pastor. Now for me.....the review you all have been waiting for lol. I had the queso-birria tacos with the consomé and rice and beans. The rice and beans were chefs kiss. The meat was good and juicy however the flavor was lacking there and with the consomé I was highly disappointed. Besides my food being underwhelming the vibes were high today at the restaurant and the service was excellent. If I'm up for it I'll give their tacos a try in the future.

I don't go to the mall often, and when I do, I definitely don't make a day of it. I go, I get what I need, then leave. However, no trip to the mall would be complete without a good face stuffing at the food court. Now, there are two types of eateries available. The kind that have everything readily made and situated in trays behind a glass display, where freshness can be a crapshoot ( I tend to avoid these), and those that prepare foods made to order. Thankfully, El Taco Mex is of the latter variety. They've been a food court resident since December 2018, and their menu is as appetizing as the fragrance of sizzling meats cooking up on the griddle. Eager to put El Taco Mex to the test, I ordered 2 things. The Asada (steak) Taco and the Sope Al Carbon (pork). A Sope is fashioned like a tostada, but the corn shell is thicker and pliable enough for a fork and knife. The menu describes this as "small," but in actuality, it was rather generous in size, especially piled with fresh cut veggies and sour cream. In both the taco and the sope, the meats were well seasoned, caramelized, and seared to perfection. Bottles of green (verde) sauce and red hot sauce are provided, should you want some. Devouring this meal as if it would be my last, I couldn't help but look over at Moe's, giggle, and shake my head. They could learn a thing or 20 from El Taco Mex. No, it's not a chain or a food court heavy hitter, and yes we've seen countless eateries try to stay afloat and fail miserably throughout the years. I'm TELLING you this is the real deal. The proud owner/manager behind the counter gave me free samples of both the Horchata and Jamaica drinks and honestly I could drink either by the gallon, they were so refreshing. That food court experience in itself....was refreshing. GO HERE. EAT HERE. Show them some love, because they're authentic and they deserve to STAY. Thank you for reading, support your local eats and businesses, and as always...SYOY!

Whoaaaa. This was a surprise. I do not expect a legit Mexican food joint in the middle of the mall…read more The sad part is I saw more people in line for Taco Bell and Moe's than this place. Nothing against those restaurants but I will never pass up local, authentic ethnic food if the food is comparable in pricing. I have been watching a lot of Mikey Chen on YouTube (simply dumpling) and he is on a Mexico food trip. After seeing him wolf down, I decided I had to get some Mexican food. This place had so few reviews but I figured why not. They have pretty simple meat options. No lengua or any fancy meats. Just the original tasty stuff. Pastor, asada, Pollo, chorizo. For me that's all you need. The asada, Pollo, and chorizo were all flavored to perfection. They had great strong, rich meaty flavor. My only complaint is that there was not enough meat! They had great buns for the torta and it was crisp and had a perfect softness at the same time. The pastor and the toppings just matched perfectly. Loved their sour cream too which really brought it all together. The nachos are probably worth passing on unless you really love them. They were relatively cheesy and meaty as a good nacho should be but not anything to write home about. If you like the nacho cheese you will have to ask for that extra. Lastly the burrito, excellent seasoned chicken but a little dry. Again the sour cream really helped bring it all together with the veggies. I am going to have to figure out what brand they use. I hesitate to call this my favorite Mexican place in the area. Time will tell. The pricing is relatively competitive and service was great.. For now I will still go to el Castillo first, but this place may actually be right behind it. Next time gotta try all their tacos and more!

So I have to start out by saying, we were there on Cinco de Mayo, so maybe not the best time to…read morereview a restaurant. Having said that - they should have been MUCH better prepared for a crowd. And they were not, not at all. We were seated rather quickly as we had called ahead, and even thought she said we weren't on the list, they had a table for 7 on the patio. There was a DJ, and it was so loud that you literally had to shout to be heard, and even then, it was difficult because everyone around you was also shouting. The server came in spurts. Took a couple drink orders, and then got called away, came back, took a couple more, same thing called away. One person from our table finally went and got all of our drink orders delivered. I decided to try a taco platter. You got 3 tacos, with rice & beans. Your choice of taco fillings. I went with carnitas, steak and shrimp, and fish with pineapple. Spanish rice and refried beans. The tacos were okay. The shells were so soggy that they fell apart the first time you tried to pick them up. The fish was cooked well, and the carnitas were tasty. I had asked for NO cilantro, and it was covered, so they brought it back and it was obvious someone had just brushed some off the top. No bueno - should have been redone. The rice and beans were not good. No flavor, beans tasted metallic. No one at the table liked them. The major issue was, 2 of us got our food, then 1 more, than 2 more, and then nothing. 2 people, without food, and no servers around. The rest of us were actually finished with our meal. One person got up to say just bring us the check, we'll go without food, and they insisted they stay. Food came out - wrong food. Finally they were served, but said the food was cold. Not saying they should have, but they did not offer to remake or to refund. Again - not good customer service. Will I try it again? maybe? Just was an overall unpleasant visit.
