I lost my job, moved home, and went to bed, for two years. I had been to therapy before, but never worked with a psychiatrist concerning adjusting my medications to specific levels. He started me out slowly with different anti-anxiety and antidepressants. Some worked, some didn't. A few years later, and I'm the happiest I've ever been in my life. I'm dating an actual rocket scientist right now (I know), walk my dog for an hour every day, and created and now run a successful clothing business. There are really no specific words to describe someone who has completely changed your life. He works with me and my parents, and we have come to truly look forward to every session. He has no staff, only a rude answering service and I needed him to call a pharmacy to answer a question about a script before I ran out of medication I've been taking for 10+ years. He never returned the pharmacist's phone calls, I was off my medication for 10 days, I was desperately ill, saw him in his office and it still took 3 more hours and calls from me threatening to file a complaint with the medical board to get him to return the pharmacist's call in order to get my script filled. He will not call pharmacies. He says that is his policy. Who prescribes medication, but refuses to call pharmacies back? This guy. I asked about rehab and he said I couldn't afford it and wouldn't get better. For real. I've found a new doctor. Dr. Levine will not care about you as a patient and makes that very clear. Spare yourself the experience.

There are dozens upon dozens of counselors listed in my health insurance's directory. Who should I choose? I got fortunate that the person I choose, based largely on location and experience, turned out to be very compatible. For years, I've thought that counseling was simply a waste of time. I have had very negative experiences with therapy in the past. I would talk for an hour and pay for little to no input from the counselor. My entire perspective on counseling changed when I began seeing my previous counselor at the Women's Center in Vienna, and then Nancy Henningsen. After reading her biography and services on her website, I arranged an initial session. It was apparent from the very first session that Nancy Henningsen is unlike most therapists I've had. Not only did I always receive helpful input, but she offered refreshing perspectives. I tend to go on tangents, but she kept me focused. Nancy provided very constructive criticism without casting an ounce of judgement. She uses various methods and techniques to help her clients, such as the "sand tray therapy" which I found to be both fun and insightful at the same time. After six months of seeing Nancy, I had made tremendous progress. I truly regret having to leave her and to find a counselor in Illinois all over again.
