Walked in at 4:35. They close at 5. They refused to give us a tasting as it was "too close to closing and owners monitor us". Really?? Other wineries pour tastings if you arrive before closing. So... just lock your doors then if you don't want to serve customers! It gets better: the guy who turned us away said the owners had cameras on them. That's just plain creepy. Who does that? Broll's tasting room is a must stop every time we visit Murphys. The tasting room is very lovely and serene. We love the relaxing vibe and tasty varietals offered. The Cabernet Sauvignon has consistently been one of our favorites. We also really enjoy the "grandchildren " wine, which are named after the Broll grandchildren. How sweet! Michelle is our favorite tasting room worker. She is extremely friendly and very knowledgeable not only about Broll's wine, but about Murphys and the surrounding area since she has lived in the area most of her life. She is very helpful and gives good recommendations about restaurants and even other tasting rooms to visit. We always enjoy our visits to Broll and look forward to our next trip. Enjoy! read more

One taste and you will know why they are known for their reds. All estate grown in Calaveras county Broll's reds are one of my favorites along the Sierra Nevada's western foothills. The wine is bold, aged and softened in oak barrels. On the pallet you often find two or three distinct flavors ranging from berries to pepper. It stands up well with strong flavors of BBQ or other red meats or tomato based pasta dishes. The tasting room is modern with stone and wood themes. It fits well with Murphy's mining and redwood history. There are plenty of quality notions to browse as well. Sadly the tasting is impacted right now but if you like reds you will not be disappointed with a bottle of you favorite varietal. read more

Murphy ca is always such a fun place to visit, however, I look forward to stopping in at Broll. The service is always so great and all of the employees make sure you have a great time and learn all about the legacy of their winery. I visited Broll for the first time on New Year's Eve and LOVED it! From the moment I walked in I knew my group of friends and I were going to love it. The aesthetics of the tasting room were fabulous, and the wine was even better! What a horrible experience. My friend inquired about a membership and was very impressed by the beautiful backyard that was available to members. The doors to the back room as well as the backyard were unlocked and opened so we went back to see what it looked like to see if it would be worth a membership. We were followed and chased out by a very over eager employee (named Rod) who chose to neglect his other customers in order to scold us for going outside even though the doors were opened. We told him we were just taking a peek because we thought it was lovely and were interesting in joining. His response was "I said no!" and his tone was extremely aggressive and made us uncomfortable as two young ladies alone. My friend left the establishment to collect herself as his behavior brought her to tears. I told him that she was just blown away by how beautiful they had made their membership room and that she was excited for us to join and he brushed me off and told me he would not serve her any longer. When she came back in to tell him why it was an uncomfortable experience for her he brushed her off again and said "she can just get out! Those doors shouldn't have been opened!" To which she replied "but they were opened and that's my fault" and she was told to leave. I have worked in customer service (as a manager and as a service member) for 15 years and I truly understand the trite of people in the industry and value their hard work. I was not impressed and by this behavior and found it inappropriate, rude and aggressive. I would not recommend this establishment for any woman as it felt unsafe due to Rod's behavior. He may not be fit to serve a variety of people and may be best in back of house. The wine was so so and certainly did not warrant the horrific treatment and would not be worth a membership, no matter how nice the landscaping was in the back. read more

Woman who worked there yelled at me because my dog marked in front of a plant on the sidewalk in front of the store. She was incredibly rude, we were very apologetic but unfortunately we cannot control where our dog pees and it was outside on a side walk in plants. It was outrageous for someone to yell at us down the block for that reason because she was frustrated that dogs always pee there. They smell each others scent it's very common for dogs to pee when they smell other dogs pee. Blaming us and our dog and the way she spoke to us was shameful. Karen's are everywhere. read more

Well since my first review 2 years ago, I have frequented this tasting room quite a few times. Actually every time I'm in Murphys which is a lot. :) Their 2005 cab was the best I had ever tasted until I was able to try the 2004 Cab. WOW what a great taste explosion. I have recently discovered they have a 2003 Cab which is even better. I'm sure glad that I didn't listen to what people were telling me because I am now the proud owner of 14 bottles of excellent Cabs. 5 thumbs up here. read more

Broll has two locations, we had stopped at the first one and they were unfortunately not doing tastings there (doesn't covid know we need wine??) but they were doing tastings at their other locations, which is a short drive away. We made reservations with the woman working the tasting room on the main street for the next day. First, the tasting room is gorgeous. Redone in the last few years, it's modern and clean, and very shiny. I want to buy all the things when I go in there. I believe there is also a members only patio in the back. The second location is much larger, a cute building with a gorgeous patio covered in vines and has several picnic tables. We were sat at one immediately and got started on our tasting. I'll also mention that everything we cleaned off before we sat and there was also sanitizer at the table. The wine here is delicious. All of it. Especially the wines named after family members. I was shocked because there are generally at least a few wines that aren't my particular fave in a line up and we loved everything that we were given. Highly recommend. read more

This winery is off the beaten path from the other wineries on main St. but worth the visit. The tasting room host was friendly. There is a small fee for tasting ($5) which is waived if you purchase a bottle. It was a gorgeous winery with lots of outside seating - great for large groups during good weather. We picked up the 2007 Merlot and the 2008 Cab. The cab didn't make it home with us, it went well with our dinner that evening. We will be returning... read more

Went to the area on a camping trip. Spontaneously stopped here & am glad we did. Picked up their Cab, Petite Sirah & Extra Virgin Olive Oil. The EVOO is over the top - not grassy at all (like some bay area brands) - will cry when it's gone. Turned into a pricey camping trip but sooo worth it. read more

Went here for an alumni event after spending the day in Murphys. Our hostess was great - very informative. There were 5 wines poured, but nothing that I really wowed over. The pours were literally a taste - about a teaspoon - guess I'm used to Sonoma/Russian River wineries where a taste is typically a 1oz pour. All the wines poured retailed for about $30-35 a bottle. OK, it's another "Oh yeah, I remember this place." After having a glass last night & seeing the reviews here it was enough to kick-start my brain & remind me of yet another little gem from Murphey's. You see after a particularly "rough" night with some friends on the previous Friday night we did a quick wine tasting trip to Murphey's the following Saturday. Needless to say I was in a slightly less than comatose state until a little after 1:00 (or three wineries) that afternoon. Broll Mountain was #2 & my memories are a bit fuzzy BUT we were smart enough to bring some of stuff home & I'm thankful for that. Apparently we liked the Rousanne since there were 6 of them that made it home & I can now see why. When I tell people I like my white wines to taste like "you're sucking on a rock while eating a kiwi & lime salad with a drop of honey" you'll understand. Dry, earthy, flinty, steely & very old world. Yes, I am a member of the ABC Club, Anything But Chardonnay. There's also some Syrah & even a Cabernet in there too so once I get around to the reds I'll have to update. read more

We visited the new Broll wine tasting location today and was again impressed with their selection of wines. We didn't even know about their old location, but did take a walk to see it. New location is better, but I must admit, the old location was lovely too! Michelle was helpful, professional, knowledgeable, and welcoming. Ask Michelle about the history of the remodel. Fascinating! The waterfall is a must see. Gorgeous! We will visit Broll every time we are in Murphy's. During our first trip, we thought Michelle and Diane were the owners because they took such pride in their work. This is a must stop. You won't be disappointed! read more

Walked into Broll M. Vineyards & I was met by a trolll! The woman with eye glasses motion to me that my 18 yer old son stand outside because there were cameras!i said my son doesn't drink & she motioned that my son stand outside! This was the first time iin out of 200 hundred wineries this happened! No Winery in the town of Murphy requested this! I guess the truth hurts Brandon because your place is the only one to ask my son to stand outside. He would not have been drinking alcohol. Sorry, you lost my business. I guess you also don't realize that someone who is 18 isn't a minor. They are adults. Four Winds is a great place people. I had 5 bottles shipped to New York. read more

Gotta say we were not impressed. Yes, the tasting room is beautiful, but the lady pouring was rude and not in the least bit helpful. We did purchase a couple bottles, one of which was the $32 bottle of 2007 Petite Syrah. Brought it home and stored it properly, just tried to open it tonight had to literally bust through the cork. It broke into pieces and we had to shove it into the bottle, thank goodness we have a filtered aerator, it's the only thing that saved this wine. I'd expect more from a moderately priced bottle of vino. Won't be returning. read more
