I had a great time there. Just one thing.. If you sign up for the trail riding which is 35 bucks, it doesn't come with any instructions. My son is a huge animal lover, so as soon as he was old enough for lessons (6 years old) we brought him to BEC to see if he would enjoy riding and he LOVES it. His patient and thoughtful instructors (Susie and Kiki) always select the best kid-friendly horses for his lessons (his favorite steeds are Cortesino and Solar) and everyone is so accommodating! Disclaimer, I did not go horseback riding here. This is a review for the owners/ staff. Our car broke down and we were stranded in the lot for several hours. The people who were there were very friendly and kind, and brought us fruit to feed the horses and ourselves. My bf suprised me with horse back riding here. I haven't been on a horse in years which made me excited and nervous. I was a very good riding as a kid. My love for horses is very strong. I liked the horse they gave me for the trial at first but I realized that the horse isn't as well trianed. I first thought it was me for not having riding in a few years but I realized the horse listened to me only when she felt like it and that's very dangerous especially when you are riding in a group. The people working there really didn't prep us much what so ever. This made me want to get a refresher course maybe somewhere else so I can understand maybe why the horse snapped her neck every single time I signaled her to run as if she was trying to bite my foot to tell me to leave her alone. She would run sometimes and other times I would fall behind from the trial. I felt like she was old or tired. She would constintly feed while we were riding. Pull her head up made her stop. Other then thag I had a great time riding reguardless I adjusted to the situation of my horse. I would ride here again but I would deff ask for a better horse next time. read more

I went trial riding here with my friends for the first time. We were all expecting a nice relaxing walk through the woods but it ended in a nightmare. Mean staffs - enough of a reason to not go. The staffs may seem all nice and stuff, but really those are just deceiving. The horses were not well trained at all. The horses we went on are supposed to follow the horse in front of it - but my guide told me to move my horse to the right of him where there is no horse in front of him to follow. And as a result my horse charged and I fell off and got dragged quite a distance through the mud. Another friend of mine also fell off of her horse, but since she was more experienced than I am (but not very experienced), she managed to hold herself. The staff did not care. He told her to get back on and they continued. My friends gave them some "feedbacks" about the place that can help them make it better but were ignored and instead they placed the blame on us. After all we are new inexperienced riders. They didn't even provide us with any guidelines or basic horse riding rules. Luckily one of our friends asked how to stop the horse, and then they told us. But it was already too late because half my friends were already on the horse and missed it. Therefore throughout the ride I heard the staff yelling "Kick the Damn Horse!" at my friends who had no idea how to get the horse to move. If you are new and inexperienced, don't come to this place. Those staffs won't help you. According to them, if anything happens to you - they will come up with an excuse to blame it on you. If you are experienced - just hope you get good horse. A few of my friends did have pretty calm horses, but most of my friend had something to complain about their horses. As for me, my horse was named Budweiser which didn't sound very comforting to begin with. read more

This place was a rollercoaster. There were ups and downs. Pros: when we arrived, we were immediately greeted and signed our forms and only had to wait about 5 - 10 minutes for our horses. Here's when things started to go downhill, the guy who brought my specific horse out leaded him to the mounting block (which is very sturdy by the way, makes you feel safe) I mounted the horse and just for a little background info me and my family are all intermediate and took lessons. I mounted and as I did so the guy told the other person that they shouldn't be using this horse because it was biting and don't want to go. The other guy completely ignored this and put me on him anyways. He also told us that if we pulled on the reins, the horses would read but then told us to pull back hard so that the horses would stop. This obviously made no sense. We started our trail ride and right away my horse was nipping and biting at the horse in front of me. This caused the horse in front of me to occasionally stop to bite at my horse which held up the line. At one moment in the trail ride, my sister's horse (the horse in front of me) stopped and started to bite my horse. My horse started to slightly buck and spook. My sister's horse started to trot without being asked to and my sister was scared and started to cry. I will also add that the tour guide didn't seem confident. In the beginning, while we were mounting she was too scared to mount the horse. Then, along the trail ride she would constantly look back with a terrified-ish look. Not much communication either and our horses were a bit wild even though she was assuring us it would be ok. I do not recommend this place for beginners or people who just want to try out riding. The workers there are ok, horses aren't calm at all. I would give this place 3 stars. read more

My 3-year-old FELL OFF a pony here. Let's be honest, I had pretty low expectations for a place this close to the city but never could have predicted the safety hazards, unsanitary conditions and unprofessionalism that were in store for us. We purchased our 6 pony rides ($30) and proceeded to head - with zero instructions - to the corral. I picked my daughters helmet from an area that had clearly not been sanitized. ZERO COVID-19 precautions. Still, she was excited, so we stayed. A badly kept looking pony led by a teenager came by and took her. After a few rounds, the pony THREW her in the air and nearly stomped on her. The teen instructor said that it was because guests were taking pictures with flash and the pony got scared. There were no signs telling people not to use flash photography. No managers or adults came after the accident to see if she was okay. She told me her neck hurt, but I am SO grateful it is not worse. A child her age could have been killed under the hooves of an uncontrolled horse this size. This place should be closed down. Posting so other parents know NOT TO TAKE THEIR KIDS HERE. Also, as a minor side note to this fiasco at least one staff member was not wearing a mask. I will be reporting this to the city with photos. I hope they open an investigation. read more

I had a great time at the stables. I took a 1 hour private trail ride and the price was extremely reasonable. I was greated with respect and kindness. I did read the yelp reviews and got mixed signals. But being an experienced equestrian I decided to try it anyway. I am very pleased I didnt listen to the negative reviews. All the staff introduced themselves and were polite. I did not have to wait for more people to show up to go out on my ride. I did need to wait but I knew that before I showed up. They had horses to get ready to go to an event. (Its a stable.... its called barn time) no big deal. The horses all seem to be cared for and happy. My guide was great. I think I may even try requesting him for the next time I go. I will definitely be going back. read more

After seeing all the good reviews on Yelp! one would expect a nice and happy trail ride - that was not the situation for my group of friends and I. We were all basically first-time riders, and we informed the instructors of this, but we were not taught any knowledge on how to tame the horses. If you ask, they will tell you, but if you don't, you are out of luck. Instructors were unprofessional and did not know what they were doing. Our instructor in the front was completely clueless. Some of our horses were getting out of control (trotting, moving back, kicking backwards, eating halfway,etc). I definitely do not recommend it. Even the instructor had a difficult time controlling his own horse. One of us actually fell off the horse and got hurt because she had difficulty with her horse. Overall, the trail ride was good for me because I had a pretty tame horse. Let's see if you are lucky to get a docile one. read more

I received very poor service from Bronx Equestrian Center. The men who helped put us on the horses didn't seem to consider the size/experience of the rider when choosing the horse. They put my sister, the smallest rider a 9 y.o. of about 4'7", on the largest horse, and didn't seem to care when she was crying because the horse was going away from the trail. My horse kept trying to back into the bushes and lower itself, causing me to be hit and wounded by the branches, while the guide gave less than useful suggestions on how to control the horse. Finally, my phone fell out of my pocket, and I asked the guide to please get it for me, and he was very resistant. Me and the two children I was caring for were the only customers on this tour which was the last of the day. It would not have been holding up the rest of a large crowd for him to have accommodated me on this. I will speak with them about their poor service, and I hope that the staff can offer a suitable explanation for what took place. If not, I already have plans to take by business elsewhere. read more

Filthy!!! The horses are kept in their saddles from morning until night. When not on a trail, they are put into their 5 x 6 cinder block cubicle with their face staring into the cinder block wall. After the horses return from a ride, they aren't unsaddled and hosed down, they are sent back out for the next group. These poor horses are filthy, old, missing teeth, etc. the saddles are worn out, the tack is filthy. someone is going to get seriously hurt on these horses. These people obviously don't care about these horses only looking to make a buck. This place should be closed down and these horses should be placed where there is at least grass!!!!!! Very sad and depressing for these animals. True horse people should NEVER patronize this place. read more

I went today with my friend. Lessons are affordable and a big PLUS. Both of us were complete beginners so thankfully, Stephanie & her assistant Lucia stayed by our sides when we were atop the horses. Instructions were clear. They gave me Solar, which was a veryyy gentle horse. Btw, theres a fenced in area where you can gawk at horses to your heart's content. Finally, dont be disheartened if you try to call and dont hear back asap. I heard back 1 day before my desired appt time but everything turned out fine. Enjoy! read more

STAY AWAY!!!!!!!! Dangerous!!!!! I still can't get over the horrible experience me and my friend just had this afternoon with a Hispanic guy called Pablo who was supposed to be our guide I have ridden horses a few times in the past ,but for my girl friend it was her first and last time. After getting there an old guy with white hair accepted us telling us to wait 30 mints before we can start. Of course we paid right away then this Hispanic guy name PABLO who can barely speak English started yelling at my friend to get on the horse. He didn't ask us about previous experience or preferences and said nothing about safety. That's was shady My friend got really scared and asked to leave he told her no refunds! I calmed her down and we went on the ride. Pablo kept riding his horse really fast in front of us yelling at us and making fun of us because we got scared. At one point my horse saw a dog and got crazyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy I was scared to death Pablo didn't stop didn't do anything as my horrified friend was being pulled behind him. I got of the horse he left me behind,took my friend who was begging him to stop he said he can't and that I will catch up. They left me behind , walking 2 miles alone. And my poor friend was being dragged by this PSYCHOPATH I have no other way to describe this poor short guy. He made fun of us and I feel like this place is not even legit it's dangerous r and I'm gonna complaint to Bbb . Went to go horseback riding for one hour at $30. Fair price but not the best experience. Staff wasn't kind or helpful. Tour guide was texting the entire time and even used the F word when telling us to kick the horses to get them to go forward more. We had a nice one hour walk trail ride through woods. Horses were fine although my husbands horse tripped on mud and ice on trail. Manager was very nice. Trail guide wasn't very friendly but he helped us on and off horse. It was an ok maintained place, not horrible and not great. If you want to get a basic trail ride in for $30 plus 5 tip for guide this is it. Relax and enjoy. The New Guinea hen was funny. Had a pretty sunset and a good day. We had a great visit on a weekday afternoon. I took my two young sons to the Center for pony rides. As we'd heard, the $5 pony ride entails three times around the paddock. But then an extremely nice man, Michael, took us for a peak in the stables which was a whole new world for my big-city kids. He showed the boys how to clean the horse's hooves, introduced us to the farrier who give the horses their pedicures and new shoes, and let his own horse, who went let out on his own, did a fancy theatrical routine. This was all mind boggling for my children who were so excited. We were treated very well and plan to return soon. The stables are very accessible in the summertime via the Bx12 bus. read more

This place is amazing, the trails are great and so are the horses and staff. You can't believe you are in the Bronx when you are out enjoying the amazing scenery. We are so lucky to have this place right in the Bronx! After years of ponies for birthday parties (they will bring them to your house), lessons and horse camp (not just in the summer but on select Saturdays year round) we got the Cinderella carriage for our daughters prom and it was like a fairy tale come true! read more

Personally the worst trail ride I've ever been on in my life and I've been on plenty as well as having taken riding lessons. My problem lay mainly with the staff. Our guide was just completely rude and inconsiderate. To be honest I don't think this is the job for him. Not only did he start off with a snooty attitude. He trotted off ahead leaving multiple horse lengths between his horse and the next one. This in turn forced the rest of the horses to trot and canter to catch up. He knew that most of the riders were beginners with no experience. Yet he did not slow down or stop much to allow us to catch up at an easy pace. He also apparently told the riders at the front of the line to allow the horses to eat whatever they saw. This resulted in horse piles where multiple horses ended up nearly on top of each other. Then said horses had to canter to catch up with the guide's horse. Not even midway into the trail ride, my friend was thrown off her horse. When the man who picked up the rear of the trail ride tied his horse to a branch, he had the horse's hind legs facing their heads. It was always drilled into me to never walk or be behind a horse in general. It is just not safe. Halfway through, my horse went berserk and I was unable to control it, nearly falling completely out of the saddle. At which point I dismounted, well, more like slid off since I was already half dragging on the ground. The guide had told me to get back on the horse. After three to five close calls with my horse tripping mid canter throughout the first half of the trail ride I decided it wasn't worth the effort anymore. As it turns out, our guide was unable to control my horse either. Personally as a person who loves horses, I don't believe he should be around them. I heard him shout at my horse to "die" as I walked down the trail back to the barn. He also seemed to have an affinity for punching his own horse whenever he misbehaved. read more

My 21 month old son has been fascinated by horses since we took him on the carousel in Central Park. We wanted to show him real horses - ones that weren't just going around and around or pulling carriages around the park - so we traveled out to the Bronx Equestrian Center. The staff was wonderful with our young son, fine with him yelling out "horse" at each and every one and happy to let him look at the horses for as long as he wanted. When I called in advance to ask about bringing a child, they encouraged me to bring carrots to feed the animals and helpfully suggested bringing long ones so that his fingers would be safe. Michael was so incredibly kind and told our son all about how the horses eat and where they live. He even found an old horseshoe and cowboy hat for our son to take home. To our surprise, our son even wanted to ride the pony after seeing some other children on rides. Bronx Equestrian Center is a great find. The horses look well cared for and the barn is clean. Moreover, the staff is incredibly nice. We hope to go back again soon. read more
