I have never looked forward to physical therapy before, but this place is a delightful change…read more Everyone on the staff, from the front desk to the owner-manager Alex, is sincerely friendly and completely engaged. Other PT places I've succumbed to have been marked by tension in the air because the friendliness is superficial, the smiles glued on. Or the young PT staff gave me an exercise with a number of repetitions and then huddled in the corner to talk sports and their recent weekend frolics. Not so here: I feel an improvement and where I used to go home feeling depleted and pessimistic, I walk out of RSPT feeling stronger and hopeful. And aside from the congenial atmosphere, the exercises I've been asked (very sweetly) to do make sense. I don't see other patients given identical routines: the place is more like a cheerful gathering of neighbors (for a common purpose) than a factory. I can't recommend them highly enough! ==================================================== An update. Tomorrow is my last visit of 2025, because Medicare will only cover 28 visits in a twelve-month period. My enthusiasm for this practice and the people in it has only increased. The atmosphere is friendly without artifice, not the professional friendliness of people who would really rather you go away so they can continue chatting about last night's sports event. You might not notice it if you knew me six months ago, but I feel stronger and more mobile. This is not, I assure you, because I religiously do the exercises at home. (Long pause here.) But it is because the people I work with, especially Francy, Melissa, now and again Alex, Hannah, and Annabelle, have understood what exercises might help me and have guided me through them. The pleasantness begins at the front desk: Arlinda, Madeline, Michael -- all genuinely solicitous and humane. I think they understand that people come to PT with a certain amount of pain, impairment, and the accompanying embarrassment. Because of the gentle-spirited, light-hearted owner, Alex Sherman, the feeling of uncritical welcoming acceptance is felt all through the practice. I am sad to leave -- it feels like the last day of summer camp -- but I hope to be back in 2026.

My first session here was alright. The therapist went through all the aspects of a good therapy…read moresession - e-stim, ultrasound, manual therapy, stretching, strengthening exercises - so I felt pretty confident that I would see some results regarding my pain. My insurance doesn't fully cover the sessions. It was first explained that $60 would cover the first 4 sessions then it'll be $25 per session. The next time it was explained to me that it's actually $60 for 3 sessions, $45 for the 4th session and the $25 for the rest of the sessions. Mmm... Confusing, but ok fine. At my second session I had to wait 30m to be seen - why someone didn't have me jump on a stationary bike in the meantime is baffling. When the therapist finally arrived he didn't know which area he was treating on me - I had to correct him! He gave me manual therapy (didn't ask which area was hurting), then e-stim with a cervical instead of lumbar hot pack. Once that was done he proceeded to massage my back with a massager and then said "ok you're all set". All set?! All set for what?! I had to ask him to at least do some stretching! So here is where the problem lies, why would I pay $60 out of pocket for a 30 minute mediocre therapy session? 5m manual therapy, 20m of laying down with a hot pack, 5m of massage with a massager. So I was treated by a therapist for 5m for $60?! And how come the treatment part of the session was about 45m but the second 30m? I am a physical therapist myself (surprise!) and I was VERY disappointed with the care. Their time management is horrible. Why schedule so many appointments at the same time and have patients sitting around with nothing to do. Little do they know the sacrifices I had to make to even attend the session (ie child care, traveling, paying out of pocket). For the amount of money I would be paying it's best for me to head to a massage parlor and join a gym. If my insurance were to cover the sessions fully I would look into going to another facility where the therapy was more intense, the equipment wasn't outdated and the staff was more invested in their work. Hopefully there are others having a better experience here.

Universal came up when one of my sisters randomly searched for a Physical Therapist near my mom- so…read moreif she needs to cab it (which won't happen), this would be a good option. Hubs carved some time working from home on a Wednesday to bring my Mom for her first assessment appointment to determine the source of her pain. Based on that, we'd proceed with a Saturday appt. Universal is a multi-functional building housing other businesses underneath the #6 train in the Pelham Bay area. Front Desk was pleasant as was my Mom's therapist Tarek- who was extremely considerate of my Mom's age and her pain. He massaged, iced her knee, used electric stimulation and had her do a series of strength leg moves. And in the 45 minutes we were here, my Mom felt a bit of relief. However, it was a real eye-opener when I noticed dirty seat cushions, a torn and disgusting stool seat cover and dingy massage plastic oil bottles. Service is great but aesthetics could use some help. If this place didn't give me the heebie jeebies, rating would be at an all time high.

My visit today was bitter sweet. I'm happy that my knee is almost fully recovered, but sad that…read moretoday was my last PT session with my favorite therapist at WSPT. When I first started my therapy four months ago (wow), I was on the fence about this place and almost gave up. It's the first time I have ever really injured myself, especially my knee, and didn't really know what to expect. I went through several PT's there and wasn't really happy with my experience at first. However, after being shifted around to several therapists, I finally landed in the hands of someone who I felt the most comfortable with. She's very professional, personable, passionate about her patients, informative, and most of all really sweet. I can go on and on! You can tell when someone really Loves their job and is passionate about what they do. With that being said, I would totally recommend this place to friends and family. I would especially recommend that you get with the PT(s) that took care of me, Christina Brigante. She's awesome and knows her stuff. She will get you back to better in no time. Even though Christina was my favorite (LOL @ Nick), I have to give a shout out to Nick Malize! He was my second back up PT and was also fun to work with. He's just as good, knowledgable, and a really nice guy. I'm glad that they both teamed up to help me progress with my healing. They will be missed! The facilities are really nice, clean and fully equipped! There's also plenty of indoor parking and it's FREE. All good stuff. Good Luck with your experience and Happy healing!
