My first session here was alright. The therapist went through all the aspects of a good therapy session - e-stim, ultrasound, manual therapy, stretching, strengthening exercises - so I felt pretty confident that I would see some results regarding my pain. My insurance doesn't fully cover the sessions. It was first explained that $60 would cover the first 4 sessions then it'll be $25 per session. The next time it was explained to me that it's actually $60 for 3 sessions, $45 for the 4th session and the $25 for the rest of the sessions. Mmm... Confusing, but ok fine. At my second session I had to wait 30m to be seen - why someone didn't have me jump on a stationary bike in the meantime is baffling. When the therapist finally arrived he didn't know which area he was treating on me - I had to correct him! He gave me manual therapy (didn't ask which area was hurting), then e-stim with a cervical instead of lumbar hot pack. Once that was done he proceeded to massage my back with a massager and then said "ok you're all set". All set?! All set for what?! I had to ask him to at least do some stretching! So here is where the problem lies, why would I pay $60 out of pocket for a 30 minute mediocre therapy session? 5m manual therapy, 20m of laying down with a hot pack, 5m of massage with a massager. So I was treated by a therapist for 5m for $60?! And how come the treatment part of the session was about 45m but the second 30m? I am a physical therapist myself (surprise!) and I was VERY disappointed with the care. Their time management is horrible. Why schedule so many appointments at the same time and have patients sitting around with nothing to do. Little do they know the sacrifices I had to make to even attend the session (ie child care, traveling, paying out of pocket). For the amount of money I would be paying it's best for me to head to a massage parlor and join a gym. If my insurance were to cover the sessions fully I would look into going to another facility where the therapy was more intense, the equipment wasn't outdated and the staff was more invested in their work. Universal came up when one of my sisters randomly searched for a Physical Therapist near my mom- so if she needs to cab it (which won't happen), this would be a good option. Hubs carved some time working from home on a Wednesday to bring my Mom for her first assessment appointment to determine the source of her pain. Based on that, we'd proceed with a Saturday appt. Universal is a multi-functional building housing other businesses underneath the #6 train in the Pelham Bay area. Front Desk was pleasant as was my Mom's therapist Tarek- who was extremely considerate of my Mom's age and her pain. He massaged, iced her knee, used electric stimulation and had her do a series of strength leg moves. And in the 45 minutes we were here, my Mom felt a bit of relief. However, it was a real eye-opener when I noticed dirty seat cushions, a torn and disgusting stool seat cover and dingy massage plastic oil bottles. Service is great but aesthetics could use some help. If this place didn't give me the heebie jeebies, rating would be at an all time high. read more

I went to Universal Physical Therapy for Shoulder pain, Initially I had limited shoulder mobility and function. initially I wasn't able to throw a ball with my dominant arm. After receiving treatment my shoulder is virtually pain free, range of motion is drastically improved and I can now throw a ball. The office is high end and clean with state-of-the-art equipment, the medical staff is very friendly and professional. The one star is for the reception that's about it. They only take cash, no checks and their credit card system is broken. The examination rooms are small, packed with old equipment, the examination tables leather coverings are dried, cracked and peeling off, and slippery so when you are asked to jump up and lay on it do it slow or you'll slide off! The treatment seems the same for all types of injuries it seems by reading the other comments here and my own treatment plan. Lay down on my back on the hard cracked table, the electrodes on my injured leg and heating blanket for 20 minutes. The alarm goes off then stretching exercises with no room to move around. Then it's off to their version of a gym. The room is stuffed with antiquated equipment some of which I am told is broken. They have two bicycle machines which seem to work but the pedals are worn and the foot straps are broken off so after I start pedaling after 2 minutes my feet slip off and I have to start all over again. I asked to use the treadmill and was told it's broken. I went on another machine and yes my feet were sliding off. I made numerous complaints and was told to tell the girls up front. Eventually I reached out to the management myself. On their letterhead was an email which was not working. I went to their website and I watched a video of Dr. Eldeeb bragging about his two rehab centers and the many successes throughout the many years he's been in business. The slogan "Where Your Health Is Our Universe" ha what a farce! The video showed the very same dingy equipment and examination tables but newer, I asked myself how many years old are those tables and not even replaced. I wrote up a fax and sent it to their fax, the next day I was called by Mrs. Eldeeb who is not only wife to Dr. Eldeeb, but the manager of the sites. She claimed she knew nothing about broken equipment and assured me that she would inspect them and either replace or fix the machines and pleaded with me not to change places. So I waited 3 weeks before I went back. Low and behold Mrs. Eldeeb did not follow through, everything was the same, the bicycle machines still had the same worn pedals and the Treadmill was still not working. So I'm not returning there and will be making a complaint to the APTA. STAY AWAY FROM THIS PLACE! read more

My PCP gave me a referral for rehab for my leg, I had sciatica. He directed me to Universal Physical Therapy, which was just downstairs(the Williamsbridge Road location). Reception was pleasant, but everything following was not. I was questioned about what was ailing me, why I was using a cane. The therapist then told me to get on top of the examination table, I noticed it was worn and some of the leather was peeling and cracked. He pulled up my pants leg and put some slippery cream on my right thigh, and then after about 5 minutes wiped it off. He then put on 4 electrodes around my knee cap and a top this a heating pad. I wondered if the pad itself was cleaned, I was guessing no from the looks of the dingy appearance of the room I was in. I was left on this table with my knee covered for what seemed like forever, no one told me how long I had to lie on that nasty flat cushioned table....as my lower back began to hurt, I sat up on my own disgusted, and removed the stuff on my knee. I had made up my mind that I didn't want any part of this dirty looking place. I went out to reception and told them that my stomach didn't feel good and had to leave. Then I noticed they had a closer location to where I live, I was thinking it had to be better than this, so I made an appointment and went to the Westchester Avenue location. The night before, I did check out their website and even watched the short movie, Dr Eleeb was bragging about being open since 1983....the place I had been certainly looked as though it was. Now the Westchester Avenue location was nicer, new and cleaner, reception was nice, very professional but oddly to pay my copayment, I had to have cash on me since they did not take checks and not outfitted for credit card payments, I thought that was strange and an imposition, but I worked with it. The examination rooms seem clean, but the small garbage pail was stuffed over the top with that thin paper they had covering the examination table, which was the very same one as the other location, cushion was flat and non supportive. I was getting the same treatment, the electrodes and heating pad, followed by leg exercises, then I'd be sent home. These last two weeks though, I was to go to the gym after my treatments. I soon learned that the gym equipment was not up to par. The bicycle machines-2; needed their pedals replaced as my feet kept sliding off them like every other minute, upon a close inspection I noticed not only were the bike pads worn, but the foot straps that were there at sometime were now broken off. I did complain a few times but the help would just look at me, finally they said they would speak to Dr. Eleeb. I wanted to use the treadmill but was told it was broken, this was the last straw, I decided to contact the good doctor on my own. But it seems Dr. Eleeb doesn't want to be contacted as his email and the website's email are disconnected. I then wrote up a fax and was successful sending it, I attached a copy below. I'm trying to figure out if the one review posted here before mine is a fake. This place is absolutely disgusting. Being in healthcare, I know dirty medical equipment when I see it. Here's the deets... I went in for a session after being referred for physical therapy. The therapist Tarik (sp?) came in, did a 2 minute interview; I don't even think he was listening to my responses. He told me to get up on the table and lay face down. He squirted some "biofreeze" on my back without telling me causing me to jerk because it felt like somebody threw ice on my back. I told him to tell me from then on and he complied (1/2 Star). He did some ultrasound on my back then a 3 minute massage with a little contraption that I could've gotten at the dollar store- you know, the plastic thing that has a rounded end on each foot that you can self massage with? Yeah that! And then he put the tens on my back with a heat lamp. The room was cold so I asked someone to get me a blanket. So here's where it gets disgusting. The timer went off for the tens machine and an assistant came to take the electrodes off my back. She tells me to lay on my back/face up and wait for Tarik. I sat up and gazed around the room while I was waiting for him to do my leg stretches. Shock and awe! When I saw the filth on the pads, I was mortified. The tens pads have the electrode side and the white material side. Why was the white side dirty y'all-almost brown! Why was the electrode side filled with dirty oil, skin flakes and hair y'all? None of the bottles were labeled biofreeze; all I know is that's what it FELT like. There is no sanitizing fluid or wipes, only some paper towels. So I know these things don't get cleaned. The blanket they gave me had something of almost every color of the rainbow on it. The unlabeled bottles that were laying around had gunk and dirt all around the caps. I didn't see any replacement pads for the tens machine. Needless to say, I will never go back and will be filing a complaint. The other 1/2 Star is only because the receptionist is fast and courteous! read more

Went there for the first time today. I need to go to physical therapy 3 times a week for around 2 months. I was in a car accident. Today was a great day. I went to for the first time. I have been to many other therapy location and I have never meet a doctor who cares as much as Dr. Eldeeb. He spoke with me and iasked about my pain and explained why I had the pain and what he is going to be doing to help me feel better. All other PT places just stick you in a room and tell you to do exercises. So this was refreshing. The staff was very nice and friendly. The office and environment was clean and comfortable. I walked out of my first session feeling better then I did walking in. Needless to say I would 100% recommend Universal Physical therapy to any one who needs therapy. read more
